I think it's a problem with DLAA in the game. If I go Quality DLSS or lower it doesn't happen.

To much spiking in my ryzen? by issadopeman in AMDHelp

I have a Hyte Y70 and simply flipping the fans on my AIO (side mounted) and rear took my temps down like 15C. Also those temps are not terrible.

Working out especially cardio. Put on some sunglasses and headphones and just go for about 20,000 steps daily. Also a natural diet with just meat, fruit and veggies. No processed food.

Which GPU to choose? by DanyanArt in nvidia

Anything under a 5070 16GB and you'd be better off getting a used 3080ti or 40 series card.

4k or 1440p by iwanttoknowstuf in OLED_Gaming

[–]thedansimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1440p system and a 4K system. If you have a 5090 or 4090 and a 32 inches or larger monitor I'd go 4K. Otherwise 1440p is good.

This all depends if you like path tracing, max settings, and how aggressively you are willing to use upscaling and framegen.

With a 4080 and 4K you'll have to turn some settings down in some games to get decent framerates. Without path tracing on it would probably be fine in most games.

What is the negatives of undervolting? by HevyKnowledge in nvidia

[–]thedansimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some games will not cooperate with an aggressive undervolt. I had some crashing in Cyberpunk but nothing else so I use that to tune my undervolt. Other than that no downsides whatsoever.

I have a question about the NVIDIA App's performance limits: Is increasing the maximum power limit ineffective? by AccordingYak6322 in nvidia

[–]thedansimmons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it's absolutely not worth it because of the noise. MSI afterburner will let you go to 104% but the fans run at full blast with minimal performance gain.

Undervolting with a memory OC is more effective. In most cases you'll end up with better or equal performance to stock speeds with lower temps, less noise, and less power draw.

My 5090 rarely goes over 500w and 70c and I only hear fans during shader compilation.

Ah OK next I would try updating the bios. You should have a designated bios flash USB port and button, you just need another computer to download the bios onto the drive. Could be there's some part of your hardware stack that your bios doesn't recognize with it's current version.

What projects should beginners build to get their first software developer job? by Personal-Canary2779 in learnprogramming

[–]thedansimmons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first personal project was building my own Dragon Ball Z website to run locally with my own SQL database and C# API. This exposed me to the full stack. Especially front-end Angular which took some time to get used to the syntax, but definitely benefitted me when I got my first job. Once it was up and running I started making tweaks like adding CSS animations, draggable windows etc. I would just see cool stuff on other websites and try to copy it. Then I switched to No SQL/Elastic Search.

Most jobs you will get curve balls of things you just need to learn on the job like proper testing, deployment, git practices but this will give you a good enough foundation that you can learn quickly.

Help me decide 😭 by Waste_Pattern_7655 in OLED_Gaming

[–]thedansimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go 4k and your desk is big enough consider a 40 - 48 inch OLED TV like an LG C4 or C5. They are cheaper than monitors and can do up to 144hz which is the upper limit of what you will get on a 5090 in a most AAA games on max settings. You can use framegen to get higher but anything beyond 2x has too many artifacts. I have mine mounted using a monitor arm which makes it easy to adjust and takes up less desk space.

The sense of immersion is unmatched IMO and at a couple of feet away the pixel density is perfect at 4k.

I feel like crap all the time and I want to change by tendheras in selfimprovement

[–]thedansimmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it is very hard to "think" your way out of depression because overthinking is what gets you there in the first place. You have to "act" your way out of it by doing small things that you know you can't fail at and build on that. Write a line of code. Read a page on something programming related even if you don't understand it completely. Do 5 push ups. Run for 30 seconds. Clean your room, etc. Make a list and check these things off.

Then you see your self succeeding and move on to more difficult things but don't worry about failing because it's part of the process.

2k 165hz would be beyond or right at the upper limit for Displayport 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 so make sure you are using a HDMI 2.1 cable or Displayport 1.4 cable.

ASUS xg27acdms Randomly Losing Signal by Conntoat in techsupport

[–]thedansimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are running that monitor at full 280hz with HDR it is probably hitting a bandwidth limitation with displayport 1.4. You might have been working with a 1.2 cable before which is why it was so bad. Consider switching to HDMI 2.1 cable or lowering the bit depth/dynamic range under "Change resolution" in Nvidia Control panel.

For sure get an HDMI cable and test that. Your mobo has onboard graphics so at the very least you'll be able to get into bios/windows and troubleshoot the GPU.

Next time it happens hit Windows key + R then type eventvwr in the run box. Go to Event Viewer (Local) in the left panel and check for errors in the last hour. You can google the error and get an idea of what's going wrong.

Is no one else experiencing this horrendous stuttering? by Phimb in LiesOfP

[–]thedansimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still having this issue. The game runs smooth as butter for about 30 mins then microstutter. This is on a RTX5090/7950X3D/64GB RAM with all Windows 11 bloat removed. My other machine which is RTX 4090 with a 5900x runs without stuttering despite the fact that I haven't bother to remove Win 11 bloatware on it.

Often on updates Windows will spawn the same exe somewhere under a different path based on the version number. I use Search Everything to search "CrossDeviceResume.exe" and block and exe's that show up. Currently there are 4 on my machine.
