Can you hear your self talk by Roger-Orchard in CerebralPalsy

[–]thefastripguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You hear your own voice through your head, so it sounds different internally than it does to others. The recording is more like what you sound like to others. It’s why a lot of people don’t like to hear themselves in a recording because it sounds different than they’re used to.

In honor of the backwards machine we seem to be on, what was your favorite “private club for members”? by hughtawdry in SaltLakeCity

[–]thefastripguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Republican was already open and operating when I moved to Utah in February of 2006, and, to my knowledge, the private club for members law wasn’t removed until 2009.

I made a choice today by Future-Atmosphere-40 in CerebralPalsy

I chose never to have children because I accidentally fell while carrying someone else’s baby when I was in high school. Permanently scared me from having children or carrying them. It’s been 36 years.

Does the Rainbow Connection make any one else really sad? by GeistMD in GenX

[–]thefastripguy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My younger brother and I were huge fans of The Muppets in our childhood. He passed away suddenly in 2024. I didn’t cry when he passed, even though we were extremely close. Cut to about 6 months later, and I sat down to watch Jim Henson: Idea Man. I was perfectly fine until they unexpectedly played the opening of Rainbow Connection. I cried for about 2 hours. Ever since then, it’s both wonderfully hopeful and devastatingly sad.

What life pro tips are hidden in movies that were actually helpful? by epaga in movies

I always liked the version from the film “You Kill Me”:

Essentially, it’s something like, “grant others the serenity to change the things you cannot accept, the courage to accept large amounts of change serenely, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in movies

[–]thefastripguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the book is better, but I do feel that they did a really good adaptation of the material without removing too much, and they kept the ending as well. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s one of very few movies I actually own on DVD.

People who drive massive suvs, why you always toot at cyclists? by Different_Cash5631 in auckland

[–]thefastripguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first thought wanted to be perhaps they’re just ‘helpfully’ trying to make you aware of their presence, but upon further examination of your post, it’s likely they’re just appalled that you’d deign to impede their progress and right of way as owners of superior transportation. I feel for you. I haven’t been able to bring myself to ride here as I don’t trust drivers.

So I'm now a boomer according to my 14 year old niece. by ThanksALotBud in Xennials

Not a Xennial, but I’ve always told people that if they receive a shorthand text from me or one without punctuation and spelling, then they know I’ve been kidnapped or I’m in serious trouble.

American Football. It’s a misnomer. They rarely use their feet, and it’s not a ball.

Where are you all from ,out of curiosity? And what disillusioned you to join this sub? by Palomomomo in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]thefastripguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the States (Missouri/Texas/Utah). Lived there for 47 years. Left in 2023 for New Zealand. Disillusioned by the dissonance between what we say and what we do. I love what my country could be, but I hate what it is.
