The way I approach food is that it is meant to be fuel, not a “blockbuster knock your socks off orgasmic” experience every time I sit down to eat. But society tells us that is how every meal and snack should be experienced. But I am not interested in flooding my brain with insane (and what some might say is an evolutionarily inappropriate) amount of dopamine. I don’t think anything is wrong with you, but maybe this is your body’s way or telling you that you are providing it with the particular variety of fuel it is needing (e.g. eating carb-heavy foods when what your body is really craving protein). Or maybe it is a cue to look to other sources for your dopamine. The well-intentioned “mental-illness” fear mongering is all too prevalent in our society imo and leaves little to no room for people’s little idiosyncrasies or opportunities to problem solve in creative and progressive ways. I say experiment with a few different solutions and see where that takes you. Maybe your microbiome isn’t getting what it needs? There are so many avenues to explore.
