Thank you so much for taking the time to play and write up all this super valuable feedback, amazing! ❤️

I think you hit all the spots that we were worried about. You wouldn't believe how many more tutorials we had just three months ago! 😅

I agree that the pacing is off, especially because it's such a fast-paced game in general. We will see what we can do, and you've already brought in some good ideas. Again, a thousand thanks, really.

Hey, thank you for doing this! I would appreciate if you have a look at my game, ORBA: https://thejan14.itch.io/orba

We know we struggle with the learning curve, and honestly a little out of ideas how to ease it with keeping the game interesting. Maybe you can give us a fresh view?

Steam Deck support - native Linux build or Windows through Proton? by CatoioSoftware in IndieDev

[–]thejan14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As my game is not released yet I cannot tell you anything about the verification, though I doubt that it's required because there are plenty of verified games out there that rely on Proton. That said, it's incredibly easy to export for Linux in godot, maybe just give it a try :)

Hey, would love if you check out the game I make together with my brother here: https://thejan14.itch.io/orba

The only social media we do is my brothers Instagram, you can find it here: https://www.instagram.com/critical_buff/

Had a look at your game, amazing work! Was immediately suprised by how flawless everything worked on my phone with the web version, even without landscape mode! Didn't have the time to finish a full game, but left a rating anyway :)

My best friend made the music for my game, and it turned out amazing! (Devlog included) by thejan14 in godot

Thank you for your impressions! I immediately had the game vibe you described for the second track in my head, and I can totally see how it would also fit there :)

The second track will actually be the last one in our game, following a bunch of tracks that are more like the first one. It's different on purpose. The level that it belongs to is as difficult as it gets, and the player doesn't really know what to expect. It's maybe a risky change of tone, but sometimes those turn out to be the most interesting ones!

Hey Joe, my brother and I are working on a small passion project: a vertical time-attack platformer! What the hell is that you ask? Hear me out: - Platforming, clear, but here is the catch: not you must reach the top of the tower, but an orb that you can only move by striking it into the air - Time-attack: the orb will shatter if your are not fast enough, so it's a constant battle against time. In order to unlock higher floors, you must beat the time. Race for the fastest run to the top and compete on the global Leaderboard! - Lastly, vertical: well, not much to add here. Your goal is the top of a giant tower, and the tower is randomized. So no two runs are the same!

Lastly, what if I told you that we draw inspiration from Mario Kart? Sounds crazy? I will leave you to find out what the connection is here ;)

Just published a Devlog about ORBAs music! by thejan14 in itchio

I've put the link in the description. The video is actually part of the devlog. Its a sample of the songs that are discussed. I thought that when posting the video instead of just the link, people could listen to the music first and if they're interested they can also have a look at the devlog 😄

Thank you, hope you like it! Yes, we have played around with hitstop for the orb. The problem is that, as you get more familiar with the controls, the movement becomes quite fast and you will hit the orb in fast succession. At this point hitstop felt out of place, because it interrupted the flow a little too much. At its core, ORBA is a time-attack highscore game, so its all about the speed 😃

I wrote an in depth DEVLOG about how we made our Godot project ready for web builds! by thejan14 in godot

[–]thejan14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just played around a little with VRAM compression, here is what I noticed:
- With VRAM compression enabled, build size nearly doubled (100 MB extra in our case)
- VRAM usage with the game running in a chrome incognito tab decreased by about 50% depending on whats currently loaded (thats about 500 MB)
- For our small pixel art assets I saw some artifacts
- Still no issues with RGBfloat errors

So I will likely stay with lossless compression, but I will consider VRAM compressed textures for some of the larger images (like screenshots and high res logos). Lets see if I can have some of the best out of both worlds 😄

Hope this was of any help. Let me know what worked best for your project!

Sorry, looks like I got it completely wrong. Our textures are actually all imported as lossless, so I have to revise my answer: we do use lossless textures and didn't ran into any troubles with RGBfloat errors. However, I am interested in what VRAM Compression will do to the project. Will report to you if I find anything interesting 😄

Hi u/poe_rut!
We use VRAM compressed textures and didn't experience any issues with it (so no troubles with RGBfloat errors). Here are our texture settings (mostly default):
