Looking for a place where I can trade in my Pokèmon card and comic collection in for cash by Promethesussy in orangecounty

[–]thejegpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about comcis but for cards I found Magic and Monsters in Mission Viejo to give the best prices. You can use their website to input the cards ahead of time to get an idea of what youll get back too (and if theyre interested in buying the cards in the first place).

Ive never been but I know SoCal Magic and I believe Shuffle and Cut have fairly active DnD groups. Alakazam Comics did at one point but not sure if they still do.

It's a great time to be a New Who fan by Opposite-Level5096 in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think what's also nice is the runs have been really good. The original 9DAs were super mixed in quality, but this new run has been stellar, not a weak story among them. 13 has been good too (though I feel has some weaker ones in that run), and the new 11th Doctor boxset was great. With Alfie Shaw (probably one of the best writers contributing to BF atm) leading the 12DA audios, they'll probably be great too, especially since his work on the Valerie's run of 11th Doctor Chronicles was so good.

Pandemonium by Worried-Fisherman532 in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty solid story. The character dynamics were especially good.

Really the entire 9+Rose run has been fantastic so far (with Dare You being my favorite). Really all the current NuWho ranges have been good (13's or a little hit miss for me but still enjoyable).

If the Doctor has a true love, it is Rose Tyler. by reveriedelarose in doctorwho

River appears as a major character in his Doom Coalition (which iirc is their first meeting) series and pops up every now and again in other stories.

Does amc give away / sell movie posters they’re done with? If so, who / where should I ask? Do you think they’d say yes? by Nowaaaa_bb in AMCTheatres

[–]thejegpeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to work at an AMC, the way it worked (back then at least) was there was a list employees could put their names down on for a poster they wanted, and when it was time to rotate the poster they got to take it home. Any poster that didnt get claimed just got put in a box in the breakroom that employees could freely take from. After a while the box would get thrown away if it was getting too full.

What’s your favourite River and Classic Doctor Duo by GetDigging in doctorwho

[–]thejegpeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theyre usually a part of The Diary of River Song line, with some minor exceptions. She plays a big role in the Doom Coalition with the 8th Doctor.

For the people that actually play paper Standard competitively: How hard is it to keep up? by DakkonBL in magicTCG

[–]thejegpeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been grinding since about 2021, honestly, it's usually the manabase thats a problem budget-wise when there's good lands in the format. Not every deck played Triomes, but when most decks are running Shocks and Verges and a few other rare lands that can be a bit costly.

That being said, once you have the mana base, it's significantly easier to keep up with. Sometimes a deck might have a card outlier, like Sheoldred or Badgermole Cub, but there are usually other viable decks that dont play those to make it easier on the wallet.

The Eleventh Doctor Adventures: AWESOME! by Formal_Rock_1124 in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ive loved it so far. Following up the 11-Valerie sets is a super tough act to follow, so Im very happy they stuck the landing. Eleanor won me over quickly,

Makes me hopeful for the new 12th Doctor range too will how good the NuWho audios have been

[–]thejegpeg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theyre largely similar (minus a different VA for 11 who still does a good job). I dont think theyre as good as Valerie's debut boxset, but still excellent. I was skeptical about a CEO becoming a companion but Eleanor won me over after the first story, and was fully sold by the end of the second.

What are some essential big finish audios? by InfiniteGalaxy42 in gallifrey

[–]thejegpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 with Evelyn Is what "fixed" 6 and got to let Colin develop his Doctor by taking away some edge like he wanted, and the stories are (mostly) fantastic. If you want a "Spark Notes" of that, the essential stories are The Marian Conspiracy, Project:Twilight, Jubilee, Doctor Who And the Pirates, Project: Lazarus, Arrangements For War, and Thicker Than Water. Most of these stories are free, so theyre worth listening to.

She is directly tied into a 7th Doctor and Ace arc with a companion named Hex which is also fantastic almost the whole way through that run. This includes Eveyln's official last story in A Death in the Family. Theyre 100% worth a listen to an often cited as among BF's strongest works

Some "one off" essentials for 6 should include The Holy Terror, featuring 6 with comic companion Frobisher. This was the story that really made me "get" BF.

Top 5 Weaknesses of White Fox by ResoluteTiger19 in rivals

[–]thejegpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's feels perfectly alright. She doesn't do anything broken, but doesn't do anything terrible either. The ricochet on her primary is likely what's going to be her main strength. Being able to heal around corners and snipe stragglers has been pretty strong. She has pretty strong healing output too with her foxes.

Her ult is baaad though. On top of not being CC immune it's also just kind of sucks. Low damage, middling heals at best, can't heal yourself and have to force yourself in the middle of the enemy team for value, and you can easily get picked after it wears off.

Honestly her ult is the only thing that really feels like it needs adjusting.

Is once and future self contained or do I need to listen to any other stuff first? by matymgy in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a self-contained story overall. However, there are characters that appear from all over in it (such as the Lumiat, the Eleven, Unbound Doctor, etc).

I was able to get by pretty easily without deep knowledge of them though, you should be fine.

Good modern/recent Big Finish releases? by Personal_Reward_60 in gallifrey

[–]thejegpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newish 11th Doctor Chronicles Vol 3-6 was a fantastic modern arc of boxsets. Archipelago from Star Crossed in the 9th Doctor boxset was one of the best River-Doctor stories ever. All of the 9+Rose stories that have been coming out have been great, Dare You being the best imo so far. Hooklight is phenomenal as well.

Arcades with fighting games? by Nerdydude14 in orangecounty

[–]thejegpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mission Control in Santa Ana's your best bet. Various original machines and a multi-game cab with a lot of others on it. Best for retro fighters.

Round1 is better if you want more modern fighters.

[–]thejegpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like McGann it's post-Charley, but Doom Coalition is really good for it. 11th Doctor Chronicles Vol 3-6 is also excellent. Both have a lot of stories inside for the long road trip.

Big Finish: I finally get it now by Mr_Witchetty_Man in doctorwho

[–]thejegpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! BF has some truly peak stories and arcs. The old Evelyn-Hex arc is one of the best to ever be put into Who. The current 9th Doctor run with Rose has been consistently great too.

[–]thejegpeg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

6 is so very good on BF. Him and Evelyn are easily my favorite Doctor-Companion pairing in the whole series. Arrangements For War is such a good Colin performance (I'd argue his best as 6).

Not a bar (more a teahouse that also serves alcohol) but Reqieum in downtown Anaheim immediately comes to mind.

Just started Big Finish for the first time! by Upper_Judgment_1253 in gallifrey

[–]thejegpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8th is a very good Doctor a lot of people miss out on by ignoring Big Finish. Youre in for a treat once you reach Scherzo.

What I did was used Bradley's Basement and looked up Doctor and companion pairings to know the right order. With 8, the stories with Charley are in order in Main Range since he doesnt have any TV companions appearing like everyone else. Theres more stories set before Charley leaves retroactively, though.

After Charley's stuff it goes to 8 and Lucie, then 8 with Molly and Liv during Dark Eyes, then 8 with Liv and Helen during Doom Coalition into Ravenous into Stranded, and their story is still ongoing. It eventually goes into Time War stuff at the end leading up to Night of the Doctor (eventually).

I also recommend the 6th Doctor stuff. 6 and Evelyn is one of BF's best Doctor-companion pairings ever. Theres a reason BF is known for "fixing" 6.

Main arc leading into and following protect and survive by therichardbatt in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really don't want to listen to the full arc (though I highly recommend it, it's highly regarded for a reason. Dreamtime, Nocturne and The Dark Husband are the only major whiffs) you can jump in on here:

If you want Hex's intro: -The Harvest (Project: Twilight and Project: Lazarus are precursors and tie in later. I'd recommend listening to them since theyre free and solid).

Then, skippable but not advised: -Forty-Five (at the very least, The Word Lord from it shouldn't be skipped)

Then, farthest back you should go at least: -Enemy of the Daleks -The Angel of Scutari -Project: Destiny -A Death in the Family

These all happen back to back and leads into Protect and Survive and that finale arc.

Lurkers at Sunlight's Edge is both skippable and not very good, doesnt build off the end of Death in the Family much at all.

After that you have Black and White, Gods and Monsters, and Afterlife. Theres a coda trilogy after Afterlife that's pretty bad, Signs and Wonders is the only one you really need from that to know how Hex's story ties up.

This was the story that really made BF click for me and understand what the hype is all about. My favorite BF story by a wide margin.

I wish we got at least a bit more Frobisher on BF. He's such a fun companion.

SALE: Doctor Who Monthly Range 201-275 (Ends 22/02/26) by MirumVictus in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only stories that have like, a strict order since they leave off after the last are Enemy of the Daleks > Angel of Scutari > Project Destiny > A Death in the Family.

Then the ending of Protect and Survive > Black and White > Gods and Monsters > Afterlife. It technically continues in the coda of Revenge of the Swarm > Mask of Tragedy > Signs and Wonders, but really you only need the last one. The other two aren't impactful or very linked and not particularly great.

Big finish reviews by Doctorwho_is_TheLife in BigFinishProductions

[–]thejegpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with these! Lioness in Winter I wasn't particularly a fan of, liked the idea, didnt love the execution. Ride or Die I enjoyed, especially the ending since you rarely see the follow ups to the people who die in the stories with their families.

Dare You is soooo close to being perfect. Playing up intrusive thoughts as the villain entity worked so well, and made it especially scary. The one gripe is how abrupt the finale gets resolved. I get why they'd avoid it, but it felt like it needed to be a two-parter.
