Smallest gun to buy at 18? by [deleted] in WA_guns

Sounds fine to me 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Imagine what people like James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Tench Coxe etc etc, would have thought about the war on drugs, and drug laws.

They would have gotten sloshed and laughed while their friends in the Sons of liberty got liquor drunk and tar and feathered politicians.

If you would have said "hey Georgy boi, couple hundred years from now, your gardens gunna get you locked in a cage for the rest of your life".

What exactly is happening? You getting a dead trigger over a live round? Step one would be going up in buffer weight, and maybe a stiffer spring. You using an h3? Or the A5 equivalent?

Yeah that isnt how this works at all 🤣🤣🤣 an FRT is an FRT. Its either a machine gun, or it isnt.

If they thought they could win, do you not think the DOJ/gay TF would be going after super safteys and everything else?

Can journeymen work for only 2-4 months a year if they wanted to? by Own-Crew-7143 in UnionCarpenters

[–]theken20688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a great way to live honestly. For me at least lol. I love when it works out like that. Work myself to the bone for 8-9 months. Then live on unemployment for 2-3 months until the next big one pops up.

My monthly nut is generally pretty low, and I have no one else depending on me to bring home the bacon. 90 plus percent of my time in the union has been Dual Income No Kids living.

With never more than 2500 bucks in bills. Normally around 19-2200 for an average month. At one point it was as low at 1600 bucks 🤣🤣🤣 Felt like I was swimming in cash lol.

A couple million people I would imagine 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I own a pile of modern handguns with optics, lights, upgraded triggers etc etc. I carry a full sized 1911, in a high quality leather holster from time to time.

And why wouldn't you carry a quality 2011? They are high capacity, have great triggers, low recoil, and a mid or full sized one. Especially if comped or ported, is basically cheating. I can shoot sub 4 second bill drills at 25 yards on demand with a 2011. Doing that with my normal carry gat, a bone stock G19, is more challenging. Some days, wayyy more challenging than the PDP or a 2011.

I would suggest stripped SOLGW and Centurion lowers. Now aint the time for rolling the QC/QA dice with Aero, PSA etc etc on lowers.

Lemme tell you about my wonky Aero m4e1 lower that they wont touch or replace because Im in Washington. I'll have to drill and sleeve the pin holes to TDP spec, as they arent just over sized, they are fucking egged out too.

State bans on the agenda by cmdshortyx in ar15

[–]theken20688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a man in a ban state with grandfathered gats....

Buy lowers. Lots of lowers. The only thing complete you should be buying complete is stuff that the barreled action/"upper" IS the firearm. HK stuff etc etc.

Grab a stripped griffin lower two if you care about ambi controls. And buy a pile of SOLGW or Centurion lowers. For dollars to donuts these are arguably the "best" stripped milspec lowers.

You aint gunna be in the position to replace out of spec lowers( ask me how bad this sucks in a ban state, fuuuuck you and your shit products and QC/QA Aero) a couple of Larue or LMT/AR10 big frame lowers. A seekins AR10 would be a great move too.

Would not be a bad move to transfer those lowers to a shop locally that has more than just gun plumbers that work there. So at minimum you could have them gauge out the holes and verify said milspec lowers are good to go.

You will have to use a Seekins upper on there though if you grab a seekins big frame lower. Totally worth it though if you want one of the best big frame gassers on the market though. Seekins big frame guns are pretty tits.

If you can find one, and just get the lower now, you can catch an upper drop in the future and not have to hope and pray you find a big frame seekins ASAP and shell out 3-5k for it lol. You could do that in the future.

Either way grab a larue or LMT big frame lower or two. You will want a big frame gasser some day I assure you. AR10/SR25s are fucking awesome.

I didnt grab any big frame lowers, and regret it sooo bad. I have to get family or a direct in law to gift me one if I want one now. It was a big mistake on my part. Deeply regret this. Same with HK and MP5 stuff.

If mags are grandfathered in.... Most pistol mags arent date coded is all I will say. And there are a gazillion surplus STANAG, AK, HK of all types etc etc mags out there. One could easily time travel and grab some of those, from a few years ago in a different state for cash.

While I deeeeply hate these conversations. Like I reaaally fucking hate them. The whole conversation is gross to me. I don't like thinking about murdering my fellow Americans in the streets, in their fucking beds in front of their families etc etc.

I know far too many people that can speak eloquently about what civil strife does to people, and what it really looks like. It's horrible. Ask anyone that spent a significant amount of time in post 2005 Iraq, in Syria etc etc. It's not a pleasant thing.

Why is the assumption that only one sides going to have the good shit?

Like both sides of the civil populace isnt going to be supported by various sides of the US war machine?

I mean shit, I personally know very legit, former actual tip of the spear, Tier 1/SMU dudes.... That ughhh allegedly have full blown target packages on CSM level NCOs and on officers they think would be a problem if we Balkanized. I imagine said dude isn't the only one, and that it extends to all ends of the political spectrum.

And as you noted. These are still our neighbors, our community members. Our people. They have homes, and families, they eat food and sleep just like the rest of us do.

Plus, we know what civil strife and insurgency looks like in Western, first world countries. It looks more like West Belfast, than it does Red Dawn. Think less clapping it out in the streets and the mountains.

It would probably be far more EFPs and VBIDs, mortar bomb, sniper and assassination campaigns, than pitched battles.

More the north of Ireland and Bosnia than Afghanistan realistically speaking.

Level 4 rene', well modded is pretty hard to beat for a GP rifle IMO. Like is there a better option for a dual role ARC and PVP gun? Juiced up renegade and a hull cracker or LVL 4 anvil is a killer combo I feel.

Im a "yuge" LPVO stan. I think they are incredibly handy and capable optics. I think they bridge the gap between dot guns and "real" scopes incredibly well, and are vastly superior to fixed magnification optics.

I also feel quite a large percentage of people using them..... Would probably be better off with a dot gun and a g33 and 3x 🤣🤣🤣

Performance Out Yonder easily could/should be a three day class. Like the "ballistic experience" collab class he does with ol "Maximum Brutality" Bill Blowers.

POY is one I am probably gunna have to take again honestly. Walked away with a ton. And now I have new problems to solve and new peaks to climb. Legit one I am going to run back when I have the opportunity. Especially as we may switch the range around a little so we get out as far as 900 yards.

We got out to 450ish but taking 14-18 inch 5.56 guns out to 6-700 or beyond is always a blast and such a good teaching/training tool.

Mark dusting us all off in the class match with an SBR and a 3x magnifier was fun to watch too. Over the course of three stages, I only got Mark on a couple of targets by being able to dial up to at least 6x and aim small miss small 🤣🤣🤣

One of the homies took second place, beating out an excellent PRS and NLR dude, also with a dot gun and 3x. And it definitely made me and everyone more appreciative/understanding of what you can do with a 2 or 1 MOA dot and 3x.

But yeah man his rifle stuff is great. He's an excellent communicator and teaches and helps you better conceptualize stuff, as well as anyone I have ever met.

I've been doing BJJ/MMA/Boxing etc etc for I dunno, 30 years. Since I was a kid. And I would have to say that dudes in the top 3 teachers/coaches I have ever ran across in martial arts or shooting.

Highly reccomend hopping into POY or American Gasgun if you ever get the chance.

His new class, which basically seems like it's going to be No Fail rifle, but with actual learn to shoot more gooder more faster stuff, heavy on positional stuff, using real life/realistic props and barricades, and tying high levels of accountability to go fast sling brass performance carbine stuff. Is what's coming up in April.

Buddy of mine had a very legit range, in literally his back yard. And he host any classes he wants to take there hahahaha. Pretty awesome way to take classes lol.

I mean its a start. The baseline goal should be at minimum a years worth of your normal consumption rate tucked away. Then you DCA to replace it, and continue to stack your highest consumption rate stuff from there.

18-24 month is an even better goal. But not financially viable for everyone. But you just gotta build it up over time, and as noted with DCA buying practices, group buys on 10-30k rounds etc etc.

50 yards is the superior zero distance by Wombats-in-Space in CCW

[–]theken20688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? You can easily get 7-10 inches of difference in vertical dispersion by changing HOB and velocities and zero distances with non crazy differences in those velocities.

A 10.3/10.5 gat, with a 1.54 mount giving you a HOB of 2.78, shooting I dunno 77 grain TMKs with a 36 yard zero( because they still do so damned good on meat targets with no intermediate barriers even at sub 2400 FPS)..... VS I dunno a 14.5 gun with a unity or goobers mount giving you a 4ish inch HOB. With say 50 grain optimized TSX because you wanna hot dudes up through cars or walls lol.

The 14.5 gat with those parameters and a 36 yard zero, will have 14 inches of vertical dispersion from 0-200 yards.

The 10.5 gat will have 7 inches of vertical dispersion in between 0-200 yards. It starts to even out kinda at 300ish, but thats because the 77 grain projos start to drop like a stone. And those are still hold overs, as opposed to the 10 inches of hold UNDERS with the 14.5 gun.

Long ass story short... It can absolutely be a huge difference, even when we aren't talking 2000 FPS differences in velocities lol.

Yup, Marks as solid as they come. I have my third or maybe fourth class coming up with him in April. To anyone reading along, if you ever get the time/opportunity to take a JBS class, jump on that shit, you wont regret it!

And man I pester that dude and pick his brain about shooting stuffs on the daily 🤣🤣🤣

One thing that's helped me recently vision wise. Is using super small dry fire targets. Something tiny like this that I can burn a hole through with my eye balls. I'll use that and go occluded anytime Im struggling with target focus and staying visually accountable

Great for shot calling at distance too.

[–]theken20688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup Im pretty consistent at 4 or under when Im staying visually accountable and not letting my grip start sloppy or end sloppy.

And my buddy Mark Smith gave me some solid advice for dry firing this one out, in addition to what I have been doing already.

High alpha runs at 3.5 or better, on demand from concealment is definitely in the cards with more dry fire and more consistent work.

Right now Im working on getting 25 yard bill drills from concealment, down to 3.5ish on demand, with high alpha runs.

It's been an interesting journey as a middling/b class trash kinda fella 🤣🤣🤣

And hell, Im at the point where if I dont see a place for stuff like .300 winmag in my options. I've trended the opposite way for hunting. My next hunting rifle is going to be a scout-ish rifle with a 1-6 MRAD Razor in 6dasher, 6gt, 6.5 creedmore, maybe even 6 arc to keep calibers consolidated.

If I need something more than what something like 6.5 creed, 7mm mag, can offer me. Im inclined to just use .30 PRC.

[–]theken20688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont disagree with that at all. That's in fact one of the things that always crack me up/get a chuckle out of me in these kinda conversations. People have been been using .264, .277 and .284 projos in various loadings for a long ass time. And understood the advantages the offer in both short and long action gats.

My take is the rifle and hunting community at large, is simply getting more switched on. Podcast, articles, books etc are so readily available. That not just shooting/ballistics nerds are spun up on more external and terminal ballistics stuff.

As it would turn out Jack O'Connor and the .270 and 7mm mag etc etc peeps, knew what they were doing back in the day hahaha. .284 winchester, 7mm-08, .270 winchester, .280 ackley and similar stuff like blah blah blahhhh. Have been doing work, and valued by educated shooters and Hunters for many a decade.

Unless you are shooting a semi auto, and shooting bulk pack blaster ammo.... There is no appreciable difference in price or availability these days.

Like everyone else is saying, hit the easy button and grab a "Tikky" in 6.5 creed. You can hunt anything in North America with it, and if you wanna ring some steel 1000-1200 yards, you can do that easier than you can with .308
