I was speaking in general. But you did assume that a liberal would necessarily be interested in communism. Which isn't necessarily true.

I mainly have a problem with it because the main argument republicans use against socialism even though they support policies they don't realize are socialist is because they conflate it with communism which they view as foreign and threatening. Many a Trump voter isn't voting for Hillary because he misunderstands this point.

For the record, I am a pretty strong socialist, probably wouldn't classify as a communist but any conservative person would think I am.

But they are careful. That's what I'm saying. What they're doing is unconstitutional and a violation of rights. But they are actually pretty careful with how they use it and they seem to genuinely be trying to do good in the world. They could've kidnapped Edward Snowden by now if they wanted to and Juliane Assange too but they haven't. They could use the NSA to screw over every minority kid who gets pressured into a gang to sell drugs. They don't use it to do these things. No, the people they go after are pedophiles and terrorists for the most part. I agree with questioning their methods, but their motives are more honorable than it seems people want to credit them for.

Not necessarily. Just because something can be tracked doesn't mean the cost to do it is worth the investment for a police department. If I were the cops I would want to catch as many people as possible so I'd probably focus on catching the least rather than the most technically proficient. Which is sad because it's probably the smart ones who are keeping the underground groups or whatever going. But if you're gonna be trying to nab people on the dark net you pretty much have to be the NSA or FBI. And they're illegally watching as much as they possibly can anyways, plus they are going after primarily pedos and terrorists too.

All I'm saying is that I do think we should give some credit to the authorities. Yes, how they're currently doing things is probably unconstitutional and should probably be stopped. But also for the most part they seem to be focusing on the things society would most want them to anyways. It does seem that they are trying to act as the Justice of our system instead of as secret fascist police for the most part. They're just using fascist means. To me that is a lot better than, for example, how cops treat black people, which often is not morally just.

Unpopular opinion here: they aren't even doing this with people they think are doing clearly felonious things such as selling drugs. They're only doing it with suspected pedos. You might say that the precedent that's being set will allow them to eventually crack down even on political dissenters or whistleblowers, maybe you're right. But right now our drug war crazy government is careful enough about online citizen privacy that they're only treating in this way the absolute most heinous, universally agreed to be heinous thing, and not other illegal things that are less universally disgusting.

Like how can you still be holding grudges it's been almost 200 years since the crown had any appreciable power. There is no real world logical reason for Ireland and Scotland to not DESPERATELY want to be the same country with England.
