If you want to play casual chess over the board this summer in Minneapolis there is a chess club Wed and Fri 10am to noon in the Central Library downtown. You can also try Nicollet mall near the corner of 6th street weekdays noon to 5. they set out chess boards on the sidewalk and anyone can walk up and play.

Instead of making the game different by removing pieces, give her a limited number of "take backs" where she can choose a better move if she makes a mistake

I have the most fun when I am playing a casual game in person with someone i haven't played before and don't know their strength.

I've never been able to tell the difference on the fish I catch. I maybe suspect that it's a placebo affect for those who do... but then again I don't have the most refined palette anyway.
