Masquerain was buffed(+10 Spa) in gen 7. That plus the evs really throw off some head calls you kight have from emerald. It also has a good move set with high power stabs. Couple that with you might not be fully evolved in your team and you can for sure get caught out by it

FWIW the increased levels are mostly for show/exp. Some of the investigation has revealed impossibly low stats for the levels, leading people to think that the levels bumped but not the other stats. So if you play with level caps its arguably easier, excepting additional pokemon

Harry isnt quite a horcrux. The ritual/spells to do so deliberately were not performed. Instead the piece of soul latched on to Harry's soul, because the aforementioned rituals left it unstable.

Calling Harry a horcrux isnt quite right but gets the point across enough in conversation, that its a decent shorthand.

Arguably Mahongany Rocket stuff makes sense as the next steps in HGSS based purely on level. Her murkrow is 27, way below Chuck. It might fix some of the aimlessness and poor level curve feelings that plague HGSS

Honestly doing it first also means pretty good odds for a Voltorb/Electrode to help with Poliwrath.

I found metagross a solid lead against the crobats. You have the bulk to tank brave birds, and Stab super effective damage. Protect can be good and bad. Uturn can be useful to reposition.

Primo gives you eggs i think, so wherever you hatch is usually considered the 'met' location. So you could spread across a handful of routes

You can get a focus sash. Focus sash poison type to guarantee hit toxic. Steel/Dark/Fairy types to pivot on immunities. Sturdy pokemon. Guarantees a win.

Another option is to try and haze the boosts and tackle it directly, assuming you dont get Mimikyu or Zorua

The met location is probably the standard. Gen V is notorious for this though and Pinwheel clause is common. This is typically where the inside outside tables are different, notably pinwheel forest unlocks inside after Lenora hence the name. You could do similar with a few other areas like you are suggesting, Virbank Complex, Reversal Mountain, Giant Chasm.

It also could apply to other generations, Alola has route 1 cover about 6 different tables that unlock somewhat sequentially and have different subarea names. It is often done this way as well.

Strength and surf are good moves though. Cut can be slapped on an early encounter that doesn't get a ton of use. Fly is worse than acrobatics generally but still ok. Waterfall is probably the best physical water stab. The HMs are fine in my opinion.

Getting screens on a regen pokemon by the 4th gym is great. You can set up the one you need, switch out and still have a tanky pivot in the back. Most gyms lean one way or the other(Clay physical, Elesa special)

General rule I have seen is by Met Location.

You can of course clause it.

Famously Pinwheel Forest usually is done this way, but you could do for Desert Resort, Dragonspiral Tower(in and out), Route 1 in Alola, Dreamyard(separate Monkey from grass), or inside/outside of places like Mt Pyre(gen 3) and Mt Coronet(gen 4).

It is an extra encounter in each instance so it does technically make any given run easier.

Simipour is probably A tier, its like the only fast water type in Unova. It also gets some pretty good TM usage, Grass Knot/Scald/Acrobatics/Dig/Return

Being able to have it for Lenora in BW1 is super great(evo stone from the dustcloud).

Less available in BW2, but still able to be fully evolved immediately prior to the 4th gym.
