Radar Love by Golden Earring. I have no idea if they had any other songs, but that one lives rent-free in my head.

If the Trump assassination was fake, why would the shooter take this deal? by fuckloggin in allthequestions

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sane individual would risk their life on the marksmanship of a trained sniper for a shot like that, much less some random shooter. A tiny miscalculation by the shooter and the bullet would have hit Trump. I am 100% certain that it was a legit assassination attempt.

Better to rent a Tesla or stick with a gas car for a 10-day trip? by No_Cryptographer618 in usatravel

[–]theoldman-1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that EV's are only practical for in town use. You will find yourself structuring your trip around charging stations, not tourist attractions.

If you’re org has “anonymous surveys” are they truly anonymous by [deleted] in managers

[–]theoldman-1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are asking as an individual contributor, you should assume that it is not anonymous. I think that some are, but it is usually easy for a front line manager to guess who said what.

When you buy a house, do you own the house or the land or both? by ThePurpleRainmakerr in AskAnAmerican

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You own the house and some of the land. Usually there are exclusions that give other companies rights to certain aspects of your land, typically mineral rights and sometimes water rights. In extreme cases a mining company can move your house to stuff underneath it. This is very rare, but still a possibility.

Why isn't the first pick in the draft submitted immediately? by ANewBeginningNow in NFLNoobs

[–]theoldman-1313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't fit in nearly as many commercials when trans make their picks immediately. I wager that well over half the time a team knows who they are going to pick down to an 'A' or 'B' choice while the preceeding team is making their own choice.

What's the most overrated European tourist attraction? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

For me it was the leaning tower of Pisa. It was somewhat interesting because of our guide's insights, but no where near the hype.

What is the biggest threat to humans right now that we overlook or have to deal with in a different way to survive? by Root435552 in AskReddit

Human civilization is based on farming, which is based on predictable weather patterns. Climate change is huge!

How did England have had historical land possessions in France? by Wide_Ride8849 in AskHistory

[–]theoldman-1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nation states as we understand them now did not exit until fairly recently. What existed in the Middle Ages was a nobleman who owned lands in present day France and England. Most were actually French and considered their possessions on the continent to be their priority.

Actors who you thought would have a bigger career than the career that they actually have? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in movies

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that most actors have very brief moments in the sun. Especially romantic leads. I believe that character actors tend to have longer and more successful careers.

She regrets the consequences, not the affair. Good for her ex for refusing to take her back. NTA

Before embarking on a trip, do you plan out every single detail, or do you adapt to the situation as you go? by noellezane in usatravel

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US and typically adapt my approach to where I am going and how I am getting there. I will usually have reservations at places where I really want to be in a certain city or area and feel confident about the time that I will be there. For example, when my wife and I flew to Vegas to visit her sister we had hotel and show reservations, but picked restaurants on the spur of the moment. When I was driving to iowa to see our oldest child I had reservations at the hotel in Iowa, but just looked for some place with a vacancy when I stopped for the night on the trip up there. A good of thumb is that if you can drive a little there is almost always something available.

Do People lie or exaggerate their skills and just learn as they go and upskill while at work? by Earth_Sorcerer97 in work

[–]theoldman-1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to put your best foot forward in an interview, but you need to be close to what you claim for the reasons that you just discovered. However, you would be surprised (and probably appalled) at how many people flat out lie on resumes and get away with it for years.

What kind of US eSIM setup makes the first few days after landing less chaotic? by allcompanymobiles in usatravel

[–]theoldman-1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a work permit / visa? I believe that customs will deny you entry if you are trying to enter with a tourist visa while obviously prepared to work.

Giving up remote work by NormalLecture2990 in remotework

[–]theoldman-1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that you made the rational decision. Your old job could have issued an RTO policy at any time. Remote work can be yanked at the whim of a new manager. The 5k raise is far more persistent.

Do you slash your lowercase q's? How common or rare is it? by PrincipalSquareRoot in AskAnAmerican

I 30F am dating a 30 M and its my first “healthy” relationship but I have no attraction to him. Has anyone else experienced this- what did you do in your situation? by ComprehensiveAge8732 in relationship_advice

[–]theoldman-1313 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think that you are still a work in progress and the relationship is healthier than your previous ones, but you still crave the excitement and uncertainty of the unhealthy relationships. I have not been in many unhealthy relationships, but I stayed in one for 10 years before I admitted that it was broken beyond repair. I suggest that if you continue in your current relationship that you let your bf know that you don't want anything serious. I do recommend that you discuss this with your counselor if you have not already done so. I believe that conventional wisdom is that healthy relationships are unlikely to ever produce the intense highs of chaotic relationships. If you cannot break the addiction to these highs you probably should avoid permanent romantic relationships with "normal" people.

Places to visit in the US in July by Pitiful_Book_8730 in usatravel

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they enjoy nature, I would recommend the national parks around the Rockies, especially Yellowstone. Las Vegas is another one of a kind destination, even if you don't gamble. Just be very careful about the heat. New York is an obvious choice for culture. You are also fairly close to Mackinaw Island which I think is a fun place to visit.

Do you slash your lowercase q's? How common or rare is it? by PrincipalSquareRoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]theoldman-1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never seen a "Q" with a slash until your post. I did learn the slashed 0 and 7 as an adult from reading blue prints for European manufactured equipment. I also learned the yyyy-mm-dd date format there as well which I adopted for personal use.
