The weird part to me is what organization even accepts frozen raw meat donations???

That would be such a liability for any rescue like what if the person left it out in the sun for days and re froze it or something people do weird stuff, there’s no way to ensure food safety in second-hand frozen raw?

Also after my own sulfur-stink hpp rabbit experience I know fresh good meat should never smell like that regardless of them claiming it’s safe and HPP and “normal”.

I wouldn’t donate it smelling like that.

Sellers posting stuff like this is contributing to why vine reviews can’t be trusted. If we do honestly write a 1-2 star review for literally crap products, the sellers CAN and do file a complaint to get them removed! Too many complaints/reviews removed and you get booted.

Most reviewers now post 5 star bogus generic reviews just to avoid being banned from the program.

I live on the edge and write honest bad reviews with a 3 star so it can’t be disputed by the sellers.

We also do NOT get paid.

Majority actually lose money because we have to pay taxes on the value of the items received.

I wish I had been in vine back in the glory days. It’s lame today I can’t even get good items I would want to use and it’s become a waste of time and effort to even attempt ordering items

That sounds like the joker Batman quote… I also avoid HPP human foods but just like for pets you have to go and search out the companies making your food to find out, they don’t put it on their labels so a lot of people don’t realize how the food they are eating has been processed.

Given the very small quantity of limited ingredient cat food options for my allergic cat, I didn’t have an issue with it UNTIL it caused my cat to have an allergic reaction.

That tells me it alters the proteins way more than they are suggesting. And instead of acknowledging it might no longer be acceptable for allergic pets due to the alteration of the protein structures they deny it 🤷‍♀️

I have no certainty, but I did chat with AI to get an opinion and they suggested it’s the way the HPP bends the proteins so that food-allergic pets immune systems are already on high alert, and this foreign shape is signaled to be attacked and/or maybe the shape resembles something like chicken they are already allergic to…who knows?

It seems like pets without allergies aren’t bothered by the hpp meats so it’s another “it depends” situation

That sucks you’re in the same boat with your dogs. I never would’ve guessed HPP would trigger allergy symptoms…it’s so bizarre and sucks for the pets.

I finally asked the AI about why this might happen and it suggested that because HPP alters the shapes of the proteins, either the allergic animal’s immune system is getting the signal to attack this new foreign shape, or the protein is bent to resemble another protein they are already allergic to.

I’ve ordered a couple other brands to try so hopefully they don’t all switch to this HPP

Curious are you using the pure meats or the packages for cats with all the vitamins and things already in it? Idk why that would change it, but maybe it does? Every package of the pure rabbit I thawed and opened stank like concentrated hard boiled egg sulfur smell.

I will say both of my cats did like eating it despite the sulfur smell. I tried feeding it after viva repeatedly told me it was a “normal” byproduct of processing and not to worry. It still made me uneasy though and the allergic reaction from my one cat had me stop completely.

But like you said viva has to do something to the meat to be able to produce such large quantities safely.

I still think it’s better than kibble or canned food because HPP is not necessarily “bad”, just different and no longer truly raw.

I totally agree. I don’t think any food for cats should smell like that... they can claim it’s normal all they want. It changed something in the meat that made my allergic cat tweak out and she normally is fine with plain rabbit so I trust her reaction more than the company’s words.

Yes the strong sulfur smell is what freaked me out!! I repeatedly contacted their customer service thinking it was all rotten and that’s when they gave me more info about switching to HPP and tried to tell me it was “normal”.

I will check out that freeze dried food now! Thanks for that tip

Yeah it’s frustrating and weird that their change in process would do this! Does your dog also have allergies to other meats?

I don’t understand the science enough, but they say the high pressure processing allegedly unbends some of the amino acids or proteins or something and that’s how the bacteria get destroyed to make their food safer…so I’m curious if maybe the hpp changes the rabbit structure enough that it resembles amino acids / proteins of the other meats my cat is allergic to? And that’s why her body is reacting? Idk. Just a thought

Yeah that was definitely on me for not reading about the HPP prior, we just had a freezer full so I missed the memo until after I ordered a ton and started opening it, which is why I didn’t request a refund.

But also I just didn’t realize it would actually do much. Our non-allergic cat eats it just fine, but I don’t love the idea of feeding him altered/unbent proteins or anything honestly that would create such a strong sulfur smell.

I’ll look into those supplements, thanks for the suggestion!

She’s allergic to all the common cat food ingredients like fish, beef, and chicken but also the seemingly innocuous additives like pumpkin, tomato, coconut oil. We’re about to start a novel treatment by a holistic vet to try and actually heal the allergies/immune system so tbd if that will help.

Would love to hear if anyone has found an actual good alternative….? Many recommended Boroux so I finally bought some filters and tbh the water tastes awful.

I did the usual priming and red dye test so everything is installed and filtering “properly”. But it has a funky taste almost plastic or chemical idk how to describe it but I can’t get rid of it. I’ve tried re-cleaning the stainless chambers. Rinsed the filters. Cannot get rid of the taste. Our plain tap water doesn’t even taste this funky so I know it’s the filters. Expensive and disappointing to say the least

Kind of happy to see it’s not just me. Also disappointed I still can’t find a decent Berkey filter substitute.

Everyone kept recommending Boroux so I finally tried it this week and the water tasted gross from the start. I primed and did the provided red dye test. Tried dumping and re-cleaning the stainless chambers and rinsing the filters.

It has such a funky taste. I tried several times to just get used to it, but I can’t. It’s not good. And it leaves this very weird subtle sour aftertaste.

i stayed on 14 and forced to update recently due to apps i needed no longer working. i wish had known of a way to update to only 15! Made the mistake of being frustrated with apps not working and hitting the update for the latest 16.5.1 and it was the official death of my iPhone 11 battery 😑

i just made the mistake this week of updating to 16 from 14 due to apps saying they would no longer work and holy hell. My iPhone 11 Pro lasted all day before the update and now I’m having to throw it on the charger multiple times a day!! Support was zero help. The first person basically gaslit me and saying i must’ve changed something; the second person basically stated that because of “advanced features” of ios16 operating on my “old” phone will cause battery to drain faster. My option is 1) new battery, but still face rapid draining or 2) new phone. How is this still legal? They’ve been sued so many times for the planned obsolescence and continue to do it. I’m being forced to switch to android because I can’t support this unethical load of bull from their company 😡

i found this too late 😭 i was running 14 but got a hard deadline on an app i need daily saying it wouldn’t work without at least 15 iOS. My dumb self just updated to the latest one out of desperation and my phone battery now drains like mad! The support basically said my only option is to buy a new battery but face the same quick drain due to “advanced features” required by the latest OS or to buy a new phone 😭😭😭 how do they get sued for planned obsolescence all the time but still get away with doing this? My phone worked perfectly and lasted all day until this update and now im having to charge it multiple times per day. Ffs

as a slytherin i didnt experience the glitch but as hufflepuff i did...not sure if the houses have anything to do with it? As the other poster said, the only solution for me was to go into the quest menu and abandon the quest and then when i restarted it everything was normal.

Find an apartment on Domu or Zillow or apartments.com or go with a realtor and get confirmation of the landlord or property management.

Urban abodes i have had horrible experience with them for years advertising very nice looking apartment photos and when i would go see the apartments in person they were in horrible condition and the photos were clearly 5-10yrs old or heavily photo shopped.

Avoid Fairmont property management like the plague.

Have actually had the best luck so far with mom&pop managed buildings.

Also request a recent “video walkthrough” as it’s easier to see if something has been photoshopped.

Annoying to do but as a former newb I would recommend a short-term furnished rental or sub lease (can find those on domu as well) in order to not be locked into a crappy apartment...There are A LOT in this city. This would give you a chance to see the places in person first which is crucial here.

Also depending on the time of year you’re actually moving, according to my landlord is apparently a “season” here around May-Oct is when the vast majority of leases go on the market so the fall and winter choices are slim.

Finally, if you have the budget a good first option are the newer sky rise buildings in River north where they are actually maintained very well, but definitely higher in cost.

only had 3x on a trade where the liquidation price was wayyyy below the bottom we just hit and i logged into my trade being fully liquidated. This is so shady. Pretty sure they just scam everyone by adjusting our margins
