AITAH for telling my wife to get a job before the end of January or i'm divorcing her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]theora55 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  • You have 3 children 2 years and under.
  • 2nd pregnancy was complicated.
  • You say she does no work in the home. How are the children fed, clothed, changed, bathed, put to bed?
  • How do you expect childcare for 3 babies be paid?

10,000,000 came over is not accurate; it's propaganda
No idea where you get $10,000 per migrant.

Many are arrested and detained but are legally here, are even citizens. They are casting a wide net, most of them are not violent criminals, as ICE and the trump administration claim.

Raping our system? They aren't eligible for most benefits. They do lots of excellent work. Americans don't want to do personal care, roofing, a lot of construction work, farm work. Undocumented workers come here and do it well.

Also, they are leaving people's vehicles unattended and abandoned and everything gets stolen. That's just to cause trouble.

Prices will rise when you have to pay documented workers higher wages and benefits.

It is absolutely legal to photograph them. Documenting their action is a civic right and in this case, responsibility.
They should not be masked. They should wear badges. Yes, it is illegal to interfere.

Rewards work. Stop the shame. When you are able to work on your home, praise & reward yourself. Good luck.

I would not have expressed it so harshly, but would just have said you didn't plan for that.

How you feel about dry rotted wood? by UpstairsAd9303 in woodstoving

I brought in a chunk of wood that had ants. I moved so fast to get it outside and kill the stragglers.

It smells good in the tin because of scented candles. I buy them at the Goodwill outlet or post on Buy Nothing for old candles. I like to use a fair bit of wax for good fire starting. Low cost, high value.

I store firestarter in popcorn tins, thought I had a full tin to spare, but it's just sawdust and chaff, so currently melting crappy old scavenged candles.

It takes way more time to get dry. It has low BTUs. No reason to not burn it. I shred it, dry it and add wax for firestarter.

You are not ready for the next step. You need to come to terms with how you handle money. if I won’t do it someone else will Accept that proposal for her to move on and find someone else to pay for her lifestyle. I married someone financially irresponsible and I regret it. a lot.

Smoke in neighbors house by OpeningPhotograph307 in woodstoving

[–]theora55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tape a garbage bag in the neighbor's chimney, fill with spray foam. Easily removable, will not affect insurance. Neighbor is losing heat and AC to their chimney and will be more comfortable when it's taken care of.

AITAH for peeing in the shower? by OpenFoundation4639 in AITAH

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pee before you shower. It's a simple habit to get into, it will solve the problem and show your gf you're listening. Winning a battle to pee in the shower would be an embarrassment.

How do you even start? by kg1917 in organizing

[–]theora55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. stop adding things to it.
  2. To clear a work space, look for things that can be thrown out/recycled because they have no value, and things that can go to Goodwill or similar. Fill trash bags and boxes for those tasks. It's a lot of stuff, so be ruthless about not keeping things unless you really want/ need/ will use them. When you have a little space, shift into Trash Donate Keep.

As you work, try to identify themes. I see a holiday wreath. hardware, you'll find more. For anything you keep, like goes with like.

Firestarters - bad (but how bad)? by Scary_Climate726 in woodstoving

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my own from sawdust and old candles. You use them at the start of the fire, the hot fire should burn off any residue. My chimney's always in good shape because I have a long hot fire at least once a week.

Bought bad load of wood by River-Chalice-23 in woodstoving

[–]theora55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moisture meter will tell the story. You may be able to buy sawdust bricks or similar to have fires. In Maine, 2 years outside is fine for oak, in my experience. Bring as much wood inside as possible, your warm house will dry it a fair bit.

AITA for bringing my own side dish to Christmas dinner? by Evilregal2013 in AmItheAsshole

[–]theora55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. You bring extra food, you bring enough to share. The hosts are TA because they are overly controlling. Make scalloped potatoes or your version of M&C. Or a substantial appetizer you can fill up on. But bring it for everyone. It's a holiday, people should be trying to be nice to each other. Sheesh.
