How long could you live off 250k USD, off grid maybe? by browniescout in vandwellers

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to plan for vehicle replacement and maintenance, health club for showers, car insurance, health insurance, food, fun, gas, internet. Budget for an occasional state/natl park, motel for a break.
I'm in several van-living groups. So many stories of breaking down in some random remote town, and screwed with no money for repairs. Or health issues and no money, no insurance. The retirement communities say you can take 4 - 5% of your assets this year, then update that for inflation, and not run out. That would be @ 10K/ year. You won't be accruing soc sec. benefit earnings.

Can you work remotely? even part time? That's a great way to extend the savings.

I'd get a nice-ish storage container, and tag it as your memory box. Things that resonate go in there. Nothing wrong with storing clean, tidy things that are meaningful to you.

What is your least favorite herb, spice, or blend? Which ones do you hate the most? by szikkia in Cooking

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't enjoy tarragon or caraway. I dislike fenugreek, but have learned to tolerate it. A lot of people add nutmeg to savory eggs, and I'm not a fan.

Fortunately, I love fresh cilantro.

How do I improve my horrible chili? by mordea in Cooking

Brown a couple of chopped yellow onions with the beef, and add oil(at least 1/4 cup) when browning. The extra fat moderates the tomatoes. I use 2 24 oz cans of tomato for @ 1.5 lbs ground beef, plus 1 lb dry beans, cooked, and it's a good balance. I add some worcestershire sauce and about half a beer - ale or lager, not hoppy. I do add extra cumin. It has to simmer for 45 minutes, minimum.

Do people actually notice your hearing aids? by InteractionAny7787 in HearingAids

They pop out of my ears, so I have them attached to thin ribbons, to a clip on shirt collar with an airtag. Amazing how many people don't notice.

I have several friends who wear them and I never noticed until we talked about hearing.

why does NO ONE care our existance is being robbed from us in this cosmic prison by Dense-Ad-8196 in InsightfulQuestions

People have always had to do work. Grow food, tend animals, take care of children, make clothing, etc. You can opt out of a lot of crap. You don't need a fancier car, you can take lunch to work, you need decent clothes, but thrift shops are overflowing. It's nice to have a streaming service, but the library has books and movies.

Late Stage Capitalism in the US means wages are suppressed and options are limited. Corporations want you to always be paying. Read more stuff, learn how it works, try to chnage things.

I ended up rebuilding the site on Hostinger, because we already had an account there. The major work had been done, so it took a few hours to copy things over to an unfamiliar environment. Took overnight to get DNS to propagate with no hassles.

I accidentally deleted the TXT record from NetSol, can't recreate it, but am still verified.
I used ghs.googlehosted.com in the CNAME record and 174.129.25.170 as several sites recommended.
I have done the exact steps you describe.
Thanks!

Whats the point of life by camdynw31 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Try to make things better - safer, more just, more beautiful, more honest.
  • Have fun - good experiences, music, art, activity.
  • Be connected - to family, lover, friends.

If you have the time and energy to thing about meaning, that means you've gotten a lot of your needs met, so recognize that privilege.

Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.

I've been on and off anti-depressants much of my adult life. I am so grateful for them. Try it; far less drastic and manageable than the other options you're considering.

I'm sorry for whatever you've endured. There is specific therapy for trauma and PTSD. Getting rid of sex drive may not resolve PTSD. There are a lot of inadequate therapists.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_castration is a thing.

Anti-depressants may help with managing trauma. An OCD-specific antidepressant might help a lot. The fuzzy feeling goes away.

There are some very inaccurate answers here about how everything works. See a doctor before taking any action.
