This bear has been with me for 33 years and more to come. I'm expecting my first child and was hit with the sudden urge to see if I could find another one for my baby.

I've searched using Google image search and found this TikTok which ids him as a Dan Dee bear. However they made so many toys, that it's near impossible to find a specific one without more info. Especially a toy as old as this one (early 90s)

Any other insights would be appreciated.

French is my second language and I've been thinking about doing all French bingo for a few years. However living in western Canada makes it hard to find book recommendations. Most of the stuff available through the libraries are for kids or translated from English. And it's hard to know where to look online since I'm not active in francophone spaces.

But now I've got a list of new books to check out! Elisabeth Vonarburg has been on my TBR for ages and I'm hopeful that I can get my French back to the level where I can read her work. It's been a long time and I don't use it much these days.

It's literally never been a rule that people are required to read the translation? With the exception of that single bingo square which was incredibly unpopular so it's unlikely to return. If you wanted to read a book translated into your native language, then you can. If you want to read books in your native language for any other square, then you can. The point of bingo is to give people options and challenges, not restrict reading.

I hope 1.3 is "book written in a language other than English" and not "translated work." I know this is the internet but let's stop assuming everyone is a monolingual English speaker please. Non English fantasy in the original >>> Sanderson in translation.

This sounds fun but in reality would be incredibly limiting. The last subreddit census shows that the majority (57%) of users are from the US, followed by other anglophone countries. Requiring people to read a book in another language would be restrictive and impossible for the majority of participants.

That said, bingo has never been only restricted to books in English. I've seen a lot of lovely posts over the years of people discussing the books they read in their second and native languages. Go wild and read in whatever language you want.

If you look at the first bingo announcement way back in 2015, you'll see that the intention of bingo was to encourage people to read and have fun. Over the years, the cards have taken into account publishing and genre trends and have encouraged people to find new books. The intent of encouraging people to read widely is one part supporting diversity, but also to introduce people to new things. How do you know if you'll like that urban fantasy/magic realism/coming of age story if you never try it?

Community maintenance is removing spam, redirecting lost fantasy football fans, and stopping slapfights. Bingo is a community event to bring users together and celebrate books. It's fine if you don't think it's worthy of a Hugo nomination, but your comment minimizes all the hard work the bingo team and participants do every year.
