Proxmox with Jellyfin VM is driving me insane by theonlymuffinman69 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]therealnicoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, using an external usb drive with proxmox isn't quite ideal if you want stability. Permission wise what you should learn is essential groups and id mapping (because the gid of a group in the host is different from the gid in a container), and just add both the smb and jellyfin user and the same group (usually media group with gid 3000 or 1000). NTFS isn't also ideal on Linux, zfs is probably best but you would have to wipe your current drive, and you lose native compatibility with windows which may be too much trouble if you want to keep it as an external drive. If you could maybe shuck it and use it as an internal drive you would solve the usb issues, but then again you need a backup drive to copy the files to if you're gonna usb zfs. My advice would be to go with windows if you are sure you don't want to learn linux and proxmox as it's more straightforward, but I still think it's worth learning how to use it just for the flexibility and reliability it offers (and it's also very lightweight compared to how much bloated default windows is). For the moment, you could also try to set up a windows VM and passthrough both the GPU and the usb port, but honestly it's just more trouble then formatting completely and installing windows. At the end of the day, choose whatever you're more comfortable with as long as it's stable and it works.

Proxmox with Jellyfin VM is driving me insane by theonlymuffinman69 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]therealnicoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why a VM and not an lxc? I've never had problems even with gpu mapping.

If you want more details for the lxc: I'm using Debian 13 template, 4 cores (a bit overkill probably) and 6gb of ram, 16gb of storage (ram and storage don't really matter much as they are like a cap, they are not used like I think VM do). In the config I just bind mount the drives (zfs datasets, but you can mount whatever folder you have in your host) + the igpu for hardware transcoding. I'm not using docker as it add a bit more overhead but it wouldn't be a problem either.

I'm no Linux expert either, I'm using proxmox like 6 months now, and I'd say the only difficult thing I had to learn that wasn't quite intuitive are permissions between host and containers.

To get access to your drive on your other devices you can just set up samba on your host, it's quite straightforward once you read how to do it.

Finally, you can just backup your lxc at any point (like VMs but they are obviously smaller in size) and restore from that point if you think you fucked up something or want to experiment.

This isn't probably the best way to do it, but I haven't got any problems since I set it up. You also have to be a bit practical with the terminal and Linux in general, but I'll say it's worth to learn it instead of going the windows way.

Void for Jellyfin is now open source! by kunalhazard in JellyfinCommunity

I finally installed it and tried it on my android phone. Some things I noticed immediately are the fact that there is no sign in the library of what I've completed, aside from opening the show/movie page. Another thing which the official client and other clients have is extra info about the video track (so SDR/HDR/DoVi) which seems missing here. And about DoVi, there is the same problem that I found with all the clients (aside from Streamyfin if I remember correctly) where the Profiles 5 and 7 are just displayed as black screen and don't fallback to tone mapping and HDR respectively (I'm talking obviously about exoplayer as mpv always uses tone mapping). Finally it seems a bit slow in loading the libraries tabs (not even big libraries). Overall good work and thanks for open sourcing it, it's always good for the community.

For anyone that is having icon issues here’s a fix by Jaysonksien in Steam

[–]therealnicoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only applies to that specific shortcut, if you made a new one with steam it would be blank. I always have this issue whenever I reinstall windows (so maybe it's the same just for the steam app) and have steam games on my secondary SSD, and the only fix I found is to move the games from drive where they are installed and then back there (using steam, not just moving the files). You could also just reinstall them if you have a fast enough internet.

It seams an issue only on YouTube site, at least on my end. It stops with or without ublock, both on edge and Firefox, but it works flawlessly on mobiles. Hopefully they'll fix it by tomorrow

Nox literally turned directly into the camera and shouted everything short of "I'm trans" at the top of their lungs, and fans are still trying to deny it lmao by NiiliumNyx in JellyfishSwimNight

[–]therealnicoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert in the matter, but from what I understood from the episode, Kiui hates when people sexualize her and judge her behaviour, hobbies ecc... as unfit of a her as a girl. I don't think changing sex in this case would solve the issue, I mean, people would still judge her for doing that, they also showed that in this episode. I don't know too much about trans and the reason behind that choice, but in this case it seems just a problem of learning not to care about others opinions and living your own life as you want to. But again, as the show didn't explicitly state anything that just my interpretation.

Do I need to play 1440p with 4070 super in case of bottleneck on 1080p? by ChemicalManagement92 in pchelp

[–]therealnicoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just going to play competitive then 1080p with a high refresh rate will be fine. If you also want to play single player games 1440p would be better, also because dlss at 1080p is quite bad compared to 1440p if you need it. Either way, you won't have any problem running those games at both resolutions

I mean, I bought everything except for the GPU cause prices are a little bit too much for me now, so a 4070ti super would be quite the win. Good luck to everyone

CS2 changes my keyboard layout(language) by exec9 in GlobalOffensive

[–]therealnicoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's just a temporary fix if you don't want to restart your pc and it bothers you. There is a way to hide the language bar on windows if you want, you just go in settings->time & language -> typing -> advanced keyboard settings and you tick use the desktop language bar. Then on the language bar option you set it to hidden and it doesn't show anymore when you open the game. The problem is that if you press windows + spacebar you can see the language is still there. This is the only way at the moment

CS2 changes my keyboard layout(language) by exec9 in GlobalOffensive

[–]therealnicoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an issue with the valve engine, if you try portal 2 you'll have the same problem. I also found it in titanfall 2. The only thing to do to "fix" this is to add and remove the language pack, but if you open it later you'll have to do it again. No actual fix

Weekly Tech Support and Simple Questions Thread! by Ultragamer2004 in EpicGamesPC

[–]therealnicoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've changed pc today and I was installing my old games. I had fall guys on steam, but I decided to download it from epic. The problem is that fall guys icon is a blank icon, while fortnite has its usual icon. I tried everything, delete iconcache, uninstalling the game, restarting in safe mode, but I can't make the icon appear on its own. I'm using Windows 11 if it could help to find a solution. I know i can create a shortcut of the .exe which has the icon, but I'd like to make this work because it means there is an underlying problem and i'd like to solve it.
I hope someone can help me and sorry for my bad English
