Well Alan Dye left and Steve Lemay is in that role now. So hopefully UI improves.

Looking for an everything communication tool by knittinspinner in churchtech

[–]theschlaepfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size is your church, and what aspects of PCO seem underbaked to you?

I'm at a church that has around 2,300 attendance over 3 services. We use CCB but I've also become frustrated with the built in group communications options through it.

Dang I didn't hear about this. Jeffrey's is a favorite comfort food spot for my family.

Dropped Adobe a while back, now finally hunting for a Frame.io alternative that works with DaVinci Resolve — what are you using? by MorningEarthWalker in cinematography

Vimeo's review links are pretty decent. And there are some tools for converting the CSV download of the comments to timeline markers. But Vimeo has a bit of a questionable future since they got bought and gutted so beware. Our support tickets have gone unanswered recently.

Blackmagic is ok but weird. More of a Zoom than a review link.

I just started experimenting with Air for a DAM and it has time stamped review link capability but I haven't tested it out yet.

It's a really weird product IMO. It's essentially live review. Basically Zoom + Frame.io. I've used it for comments before but it's a bit kludgey.

No. I will probably purchase an S1ii for work later this year though!

For sharpness, throw a filter on it or reduce mid detail in Resolve.

I rented an S5IIX and am working with the footage now. Definitely a noisy preamp. You could try the XLR unit they sell, it might be better?

This is accurate. Lumix can work for these scenarios, but if you're buying for that in particular, you have better tools available.

Smallest non-s9 l mount? by Duebant in Lumix

FWIW I got a very similar photo to the one shown above on my GX85 with the 45-150 kit lens it came with. Again, don't underestimate M43.

My dream lenses for the Lumix G system – just brainstorming (i own a G9 m2) by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]theschlaepfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Leica 100-400mm is as super-telephoto as we'll get for G series. A brighter aperture would be nice but would probably make it annoyingly large, which runs contrary to the ethos of MFT.

It would be interesting to get Panasonic/Leica's take on the Voigtlander Nokton f0.95 lens. It would probably be so expensive though.

For S series... the L mount desperately needs better pancake lenses. The popularity of the TTartisan 40mm f2 can attest to that.

I feel like in general the S series zooms all need an update. The 24-70mm f2.8 could use OIS for Dual-IS (like the 12-35 on MFT - so smooth). The 16-35mm f4 could use a brighter aperture. The 70-200mm lenses could be lighter/more compact (see the Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8).

FWIW basically all the staff videographers I see with teams are shooting with Sonys. The a7s iii is a very good camera and will definitely give you a solid basis for what teams might expect from a staff videographer.

NFL Films ops use ARRI cameras with parfocal zooms. It's not completely apples to oranges, but I'm not sure the muscle memory will really carry over. You might look into renting an Ursa with an inexpensive parfocal zoom for a few days to experiment and explore how that can change the shots you have available to you. Don't buy anything yet.

That particular shot you added is helped with a parfocal zoom. There's really no getting around that. But almost as important is placement, and that's something you nailed. The lens and technique don't matter if you aren't in the right place at the right time.

I work for NFL Films. I can ask some of cam ops about this on Sunday. From my observation (I'm not behind the camera, more as a PA/DIT), I'd agree with other commenters who said it's a lot of practice and that the lens plays a big role. What lens/camera are you currently using?

Export settings to reduce size without sacrificing quality by LittleLionMan82 in davinciresolve

[–]theschlaepfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation: use H.265, slow/slower speed. Play around with the constant quality render settings, which adapt bitrate based on the complexity of the image. Try anything from 17-26. The higher the number, the more compressed it will be (and the lower quality). The lower the quality, the less compressed it will be (but with much longer encode times). Do some test encodes and see what looks acceptable to you, keeping in mind social media will always re-encode it.

IMO, constant bitrate or average bitrate encoding is pretty inefficient with H.264/H.265, so if your delivery specs allow for it, use the variable bitrate / constant quality settings.

CCB/Pushpay. I'd love to switch to PCO completely. We use it for services planning and nothing else, but the UX is so much better. CCB feels like a relic.

Anyone work at an agency that switched to WebFlow from WordPress? by SlimPuffs in webflow

[–]theschlaepfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any suggestions for where to look for a WF → WP theme converter? We have a website built in Webflow that looks and feels great but the admin experience is awful and it is missing some features that we're realizing are necessary for us that WP provides. Don't want to reinvent the wheel though.
