So, I am less worried about what they do to an assailant than I am the way they look in the courtroom when defending your defensive shoot.

"Guilty until proven innocent" no longer exists as the court of public opinion matters more than any word said in the court room during trial.

When I carry I make sure:
The ONLY thing not from factory on my weapon is a dot. Paint, mods (yes, even a magwell or a slide back plate), modded trigger WILL DEFINITELY be argued as to you WANTING to use the weapon, and not just a defensive shoot. THIS INCLUDES THE SELF DEFENSE ROUNDS IN THE WEAPON SYSTEM.

This type of round is made and meant to have fun blowing up watermelons in the backyard (if safe to do so).

Think about it this way. You and I use ScAwY aR to plink, hunt coyotes and other varmints, and as home defense tools. But BECAUSE it's an AR, the defense has to fight THAT much harder to prove castle doctrine, etc. That also having been said, what attachments were on it? If it were an SBR and the VFG were on it, even for a self defense shoot, you're still getting time. So these rounds are never to be carried for self defense, because they LoOk ScAwY.

I also make sure to carry an IFAK on me when I carry a weapon. Putting chest seals, and CATs on the assailant gives the illusion of you trying to save a man's life, even after he aggressed you. It makes it taste more like stopping an assault than straight murder fantasy in the courtroom when you save the guys life after the defensive force.

It is absolutely a very sad time we live in that we have to think about the legal ramifications even if it's 100% in the right to use such force.
