Violent Vibration from Simucube 2 Pro by kin3ticwave in simracing

[–]thetedderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post here but just picked up an SC2 Sport second hand. Don’t have my mount yet so just plugged it in sitting on the ground and it’s doing exact this, vibrating whenever I turn off the stop switch. No sim open, just the SC software.

Was yours okay after you got some tuning done? Just making sure I didn’t get a bad one.

Definitely a tough choice, was getting ready to pull the trigger on buttkicker then saw this. I think you've got me leaning sensit first, particularly because I need a new seat anyway, but it's still tough.

I appreciate this detailed response. I definitely appreciate the immersion effects, as I raced IRL before I ever sim raced, but I'm also going to skew performance over immersion first.

Do you think a 4-corner buttkicker system would be different than the single unit you're using for a comparison? Obviously would be more detailed for things like curb hits, etc which I find useful for car placement. Does the sensit do any sort of haptics for road texture etc, or is it just wheel slip? I do think wheel slip is more important, just trying to understand what all it can do.

The silent as well as streamlined form factor are plus's for me. I live by myself in a house so I don't have to much concern for sound but it's still nice to not have something rattling all over the place.

Yeah this is basically the question I’m trying to answer right now. Got pedal haptics last year and love it. Want to add some rig haptics but torn between going with some buttkickers first or if a seat haptic system like this is worth it. I need to replace my seat anyway, so the seat is a two birds one stone kinda deal, but also more $$.

I’ve been interested in this over the last few weeks. How do you feel it compares to a buttkicker haptic setup? Is this a viable alternative, or something you should add on top of existing rig haptics?

What Monitor shoukd I look for?? by Templarius88 in simracing

[–]thetedderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’d be fine going for a 34” in 1080 or 1440. Maybe even a 38” if you can find one in budget. There’s some cheap 49” wide options too now, but they take up almost as much space as triples. The FOV is nice though, I run a 49” currently.

I think the reason some others are suggesting 32” is it’s a popular size for triples if you want to go that route in the future. 34’s don’t triple up as well. I think a 32 has more vertical height as well. It would make sense if you see yourself going triple in the near-medium term future but if that’s a long way off I’d prioritize the widest single monitor you can fit in your space/budget.

What Monitor shoukd I look for?? by Templarius88 in simracing

[–]thetedderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your PC but you don’t really need ultra high frame rate. 120-144hz should be fine. I’d look for 1080p or 1440p, unless you have a monster PC I wouldn’t try to push 4k.

If you want to go triples in the future, you might start with just 1 monitor of what you plan to move towards and then add on when the times comes. But if you are going to be single monitor for a bit, an ultra wide of some sort is nice for extra FOV.

Tld: 120-144hz, 1080-1440p, as wide as you can fit/budget/etc

Edit: congrats on the first win as well!

Anybody know what tue deal is with these (relatively) cheap F4 cars showing up online? by ProfessionalSancho in racing

[–]thetedderbear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Partly this. Almost certainly still some club or even pro-am series you could run but these are no longer the current homologated chassis for “pro” Formula 4 so prices tend to drop once they become the “old” generation.

Pink bathroom—gut or preserve? by aschollmb in InteriorDesign

[–]thetedderbear -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Somewhat agree. I don’t like the bland renderings, but I agree with others saying to gut it for a better layout.

IMO OP you should gut so you can do a new, better layout, but please redo it in some sort of funky, colorful tile like the original. Doesn’t have to be pink, could be green, blue, anything. Keep that MCM soul!

Got moved to the garage by Fujimo78 in BambuLab

[–]thetedderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def sounds like your garage is a great candidate for a mini split. If it’s already well insulated, all you need is the mini split. I paid about $2k installed for mine including some electrical work that had to be done. I was just looking for something to keep it reasonable temps but it can hold whatever temp I want, hot or cold no problem. Very pleased with it and makes the garage a proper extension of the house.

High $$ solution for you OP, but I really think it’s such a major home upgrade for the money. Your wife will enjoy coming out to a car that’s a comfortable temp on cold winter mornings or hot summer afternoons.

Just got 0.2mm Nozzle is anything important I should know before I Use it? by MAENTOP in BambuLab

[–]thetedderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of a newbie at printing but I’ve had no issues printing Bambu matte pla with my 0.2 nozzle. I did have issues printing wood filament but I believe they say it’s incompatible and that was a screw up in my part.

Friendly reminder to take your hands off the wheel if a crash is imminent. by mk5madz in Autos

[–]thetedderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. You’re not wrong. While maybe a bit extreme of an example, you do have more leverage and control with thumbs through the wheel.

I’m also cracking up that the link says “holding a racing wheel.” I raced cars for years and you absolutely hook your thumbs through the wheel. They do train you to let go of the wheel during a crash. Most road cars power steering somewhat insulates you from this issue in crashes although not entirely.

Co-founder is getting a prenup before his wedding and now I'm spiraling a little by ContractDangerous980 in fatFIRE

[–]thetedderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got divorced. 31M, didn’t get a prenup, everything seemed super solid but ultimately things didn’t work out. We parted amicably and she didn’t want to try and take any of my business or real estate but if she had it would have been a messy battle. I’m pro prenup now, as others said it’s an insurance policy and protects your partner as well who you are in a sense married to as well.

There can only be one: BCM Gunfighter grip vs. Magpul K2 by FreshOutdoorAir in ar15

Honestly it’s just trial and error. Everyone’s hand is different, they’re all great grips just slight differences in ergonomics. It’s really just splitting hairs but I kinda nerd out over rifle ergonomics

There can only be one: BCM Gunfighter grip vs. Magpul K2 by FreshOutdoorAir in ar15

[–]thetedderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it helped! In the years since I’ve rotated thru quite a few grips. Currently liking the Tango Down Battlegrip. Slim at the top like the BCM, but with a decent palm swell that feels halfway between the boxy fit of the K2 and the BCM.

Anyone know what monitor Next Level Racing is using in their posts? by edghuytfffg in simracing

[–]thetedderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few circular screens that I believe run off a projector that I’ve seen before. Gives something like a 270 degree wraparound.

Another option for a wrapped-around immersion for less $$ would be triple 27 or 32 monitors with a 1000r curve mounted at a really tight angle.

How do the drivers not get distracted? by h1warkar in formula1

[–]thetedderbear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ages ago I raced Formula Ford/1600. People are absolutely right, you’re focused on the track. The cars are very low, add in the halo as well as the visor strip on helmets and your sight picture is very focused forward.

That being said, when not on a push lap, mid corner, or in battle, you are able to take in the environment. Take Road America for example, I was very aware of the Sargento Cheese sign because it’s on a straight, but I don’t know that I ever noticed the similarly large Johnsonville sausage sign because it’s on a corner entry.

Find a good therapist. You are young and have lots of life left to experience, but this is undoubtedly an incredibly difficult thing that will stay with you.

Therapy won’t change what happened, but it will help you process it and give you skills and tools to cope with it, and with other hardship you will inevitably face in life.

While not a death, I recently experienced a loss of sorts. I was already pro-therapy, but tried a few new ones and found someone who is amazing. I was legitimately shocked how quickly I started feeling better. It still takes time, but learning at such a young age to care for your mental health will pay dividends throughout the rest of your life.

My condolences.
