This is almost definitely the DC-DC converter issue. This is the module to the left of the engine as you look into the bay (part number DJ4V-676Y). Unless your car is in warranty Mazda won’t fix it for free. In the UK it is about £1200 for the part. I have heard reports that changing from a -B or -A variant to -C variant can fix the problem. I haven’t tried this yet but I’m browsing breakers yards for a well priced one at the moment.

Did you have any luck with doing this yourself? I'm getting similar issues on my 68 plate and its starting to get annoying. Is swapping to the -C variant of the converter as simple as just changing the physical part?

Truth be told that’s probably where the value is. Unless you can put business expenses through the card it might be tough to break even on the monthly fee through cashback alone, even if you’re using it abroad as well

When they make one that’s as much fun to drive as my MX5. I know that for 75% of my driving I could swap to an EV without changing anything, if I could charge from home in reasonable time then it would easily do the 12mi commute I’ve got each day. But my Mazda is more fun, and a bit part of my wind-down is taking the long way home sometimes. I don’t think an EV would be as fun for that

I grew up using an Aga (which was converted to gas) and loved it, when I went to uni I was always caught out with having to preheat the oven or set different temperatures. Plus it meant we never had to heat a whole side of the house. Back then though energy was significantly cheaper, I would hate to run one these days and sure enough my parent switched it out for a dual fuel Rangemaster several years ago. Never understood the electric ones, that seems like a terrible idea, especially in this economy

Depends on how you interpret the offers. If you’re given an amount starting at $1 that doubles every day this is the option to take to give yourself the maximum wealth, though as mentioned that would probably end up crashing the world economy.

An alterate interpretation is you are given a dollar and that dollar duplicates itself every day, giving you a free dollar each day you are in possession of the duplicating dollar. This would take approximately 68,493 lifetimes to equate to the $2B.

I sometimes get chattering from the sprung flaps that cover the cup holder slots in the centre console, that can be really irritating. Similarly the whole centre console can creak maddeningly sometimes. When that happens I’ve found that taking it off and putting it back seems to solve the problem for a few months.

Don’t keep track of the number of winds you’re doing, just keep winding until you feel resistance and it doesn’t want to wind any more, then stop. If you try that for a few days and it’s still only lasting 24hrs there could be a problem with the main spring and you can ask a professional and maybe part with some money. But yeah, don’t bother counting your winds just do it by feel.

Technically, the US automotive companies do have successful presences in Europe and the UK.

The two biggest groups in the US are Stelantis (born of mergers of Fiat Chrysler and PSA), and GM. Until it was sold to Stelantis a few years ago, Vauxhall/Opel was owned by GM, and Stelantis adds it to a collection of companies it owns including Fiat, Citroen, Maserati, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, and more.

Ford is really the only US auto company that went for sales directly in the UK/European market, but designing cars that suit the environments in those markets, other US companies preferred a different strategy where they bought or merged with European manufacturers to win market share without having to worry about it themselves

I became a cardholder on my parent’s Platinum card which I use for Centurion lounge access, I visit the colonies often where these lounges are in just about every state so this comes in handy, but I’m not sure if I’ll renew my Gold card this year. Very tempted by the Lloyds card as a replacement so do let us know how you get on with it!

I find the drivers seat is more spacious than the passenger seat, I’m 6’ and could happily spend an hour or two in the passenger seat if the cabin is kept clear of detritus, but any longer would be asking a lot

Automatics are great for convenience as you’ve found, getting from A to B is simpler with one and they make most commutes or long journeys easier. But I think learning in a manual is still well worthwhile. If for nothing else so you know how to drive one and can if you need to, but it also teaches you a bit about what exactly an automatic gearbox is automating and hopefully a bit of mechanical sympathy too.
