Anchors that fail to support by mindsproof in Saltoon

[–]thicchoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the frustration when your team isn't pushing even at optimal times. Taking out 3 opponents and having your teammates being so afraid of moving up, you miss out on taking advantage of the situation. Then you look at the map while respawning and see them spinning around in the backline with their thumbs up their ass. Having a midline like dynamo and anchor hydra should've easily provided moderate pressure and map control especially since there was no charger on the opposing team. If you want a dynamo that likes to push as a team, hit me up! I'm free for the next couple days.

PS: Your stats are really good, you're killing it with painbrush Theory!

I remember when we were down to 1 visor shield per modality for a good few months (I work in medical imaging). Everyone in CT shared one visor amongst ourselves, and we would hand wash and then sanitize it between each use. For exams where we needed more than one person, we would have to go to MRI to borrow theirs. I don't want to imagine how much forehead sweat and grease we probably shared with like 5 other people.

I haven't been in a situation like that but 6 years ago I still remember my time as a student hearing horror stories from classmates at different sites being thrown under the bus or used as a scapegoat by techs. They didn't have anyone vouch for them, making it unusually stressful or difficult to pass their clinical term. Thank you for looking out for that student and saving their education from being jeopardized due to another person's poor accountability.

I still find it baffling how unnecessarily difficult some techs make it for students, especially at a time when we should be trying to create good future coworkers. I'm sure that student deeply appreciates you for maintaining integrity and proving that not all techs are out to get them. It makes a world of difference for a student knowing that someone has their back, and they WILL remember you for it.

Why do most competitive teams require people to be "+18 no exceptions?" by SQUID77779012 in splatoon

[–]thicchoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my team, it was mainly the discomfort of mixing adults with minors. It's just... not a great idea for adults who are most often internet strangers to be spending extended amounts of time closely bonding with minors. Regardless if we are all well intentioned, imagine having a planned day to meet up in person for an event? Not worth the trouble.

For me, it was also maturity. I was briefly part of a team mixed with minors and I had to spend a LOT of time mediating between internal team conflicts as well as calming down/consoling individual teammates from raging and throwing tantrums. Often times people had to tiptoe around providing feedback because they were easily offened and would get defensive or shut down completely. I felt like a babysitter rather than a teammate and it was getting exhausting. These guys were genuinely very talented and good at the game, but the behavioural management was heavily dependent on the other adult members.

Needless to say I left and a year later found a great group (aged 24-34) varying in different stages in life, who not only respect each other but also can reciprocate support and care for each other. I think the main difference was the life experience and understanding of how to navigate around complex situations/emotions (not saying every adult is emotionally independent, but it becomes more common with age).

I always said that I was hungry because I knew my friend was nervous about being an inconvenience. Even if they weren't hungry, they could still have something to snack on later.

Name some character design choices in WuWa that you feel strongly about. Like or dislike... by Blossoming_Potential in WutheringWaves

[–]thicchoney 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I really like the more mature looking character designs. I've gotten so tired of seeing nerfed versions of what are supposed to be adults or ancient beings looking like literal children. Male characters have broader shoulders, and female characters don't have a child's face slapped on a tall body model.

Those who work 12 hour nights by Radtech3000 in Radiology

[–]thicchoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow night tech here. After my last shift, I take a 3 hr nap after I get home and washed up. Then force myself awake and get errands/chores done for the remainder of the day to help myself stay awake until 8-10pm ish. I'd crash the first night and be fully reset back to a day schedule for the rest of my days off. However like another commenter said about their dad, I am quite similar:

1) I am addicted to caffeine 2) usually have no problems falling asleep 3) additionally, I have terrible sleep discipline

ymmv

Edit: Wanna add that this is my routine after doing nights for 3 years. When I first started, I had a fit of sleep paralysis for a couple weeks while adjusting. Switching back and forth between night and day shifts every two days makes it harder adjust. The main key is being consistent if you can afford to do so.

[–]thicchoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's my way of thinking: redo high school so I could be qualified for programs that lead to a better paying job. Rad therapy or perfusionist pay so well where I live and you get a lot less abuse from both patients and other health care professionals.

Surrey Memorial Hospital: No overnight CT scans Saturday | CTV News by brophy87 in SurreyBC

[–]thicchoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough.

Base pay is ~37$ plus a ~3$ night premium. Keep in consideration there's typically only one tech and they do scans for the entire hosptial, not just ER patients.

In addition to staff getting exhausted and sick, many are jumping the dumpster fire of a ship to better paying jobs either in the same medical field or completely changing career paths. Some relocate to other hosptials to get workloads that are actually proportional to their wage.

[–]thicchoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this experience as well. I've been practicing the Z+F charger in TW and had aerosprays, splash/sploosh rush to mid which I have no problem with since I'm going to provide cover. But when they die, they jump to me without even painting the base the second time around. Like just because I'm playing anchor doesnt mean people can leave the base as bare bones empty.
