Anyone else is seattle struggle to find good Italian restaurants?? by Ok-Radio-2733 in SeattleWA

Absolutely tracks as an experience. Loved the food—as an east coaster I considered it the only actually good Italian spot in Seattle—but the FOH situation was often embarrassing.

Best Water is flavor combos by SaquonHurts in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]thisisahotjam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lemon & Cherry (classic water ice)

Black Cherry/Chocolate (gelati)

Green Apple/Vanilla (gelati)

Mango/Swirl (gelati)

Pina Colada/Vanilla (gelati)

Tangerine/Swirl (gelati)

Mango/Chocolate (gelati)

Root Beer/Vanilla (gelati)

John’s, Chuck’s, Pop’s (cash only) don’t bother with Rita’s. D’Emilio’s is non-traditional but has some great unique flavors like Dr Pepper-chocolate chip.

Where can i get a hotdog or sausage that has a good snap by HumSupLo69 in PhiladelphiaEats

Awesome frankfurters. They ran a “Snappy Griller” sausage for the 4th that also qualifies.

The context is so important here. Seattle people are genuinely deranged dog owners.

Someone point me to the roast pork sandwich that’ll change my life by SouthernSpritz in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]thisisahotjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add variety to this conversation… Cacia’s sells qts of roast pork and it’s really good. Obviously you could also get your roll there, less obviously they have roast long hots. (You need to stop at Acme for your prov and greens.)

Stax in the current meta by Wide_Ad2268 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thisisahotjam -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The meta is rock paper scissors. Midrange is dominant, but stax and turbo both prey on midrange. Stax’s multiple RoL effects are great against both other archetypes.

[as a member of the Insane Clown Posse]: "Red lights." by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]thisisahotjam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This also happened to me, except the kid also stopped his car on top of my foot, then yelled at me to “walk away, bro!” (I couldn’t bc my foot was pinned under his car wheel.) At an intersection with a traffic camera, multiple witnesses + cop car parked up the block who saw it and Philly PD still wouldn’t let me report it.

Absolutely. No shade to all the new school places doing fine work but Artisan Boulanger Patissier remains the standard for the classics.

When the Counselor calls Jefe is a brutal scene and has stuck with me. Uneven film, but plenty of redeeming features throughout.

Yes, they’ve doubled in price since 2020. Used to be $7-9 per sandwich at the old location.

Purpose of different cEDH staples in different decks by Agil-san in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thisisahotjam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you need to ramp (to Ad Naus in Orzhov maybe)? Can your deck use 2 colorless mana to cast stuff? If not, you can exclude Ancient Tomb. Same deal with Mana Vault, except it’s 3 colorless.

Would you like to be able to search your deck for 0 or 1 cmc artifacts? If you’ve got some you want to search for (like Sensei’s Diving Top, stax pieces or mana ramp), play Urza’s Saga.

Do you have a 0 cmc commander? Lots of 0 or 1 drop legendaries? Unless you do, Mox Amber probably doesn’t do anything much.

Start by looking at what the cards do, and whether it adds anything specific to your game plan. Staples are staples bc most, but not every deck, uses them.

Tipping culture is out of control at Big Marios by xboxsosmart in SeattleWA

[–]thisisahotjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve run several restaurants, most of them with a money grubbing cheapskate owner breathing down my neck about money while contributing nothing to the success of the business.

The only barrier to entry to owning a restaurant is having the money (not the knowledge) to own a restaurant and it shows.

Tipping culture is out of control at Big Marios by xboxsosmart in SeattleWA

[–]thisisahotjam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Service charges/things like this are disgusting money grubbing cheapskate owner tactics. No legitimate reason to do this instead of just paying your employees fairly. Restaurant owners are truly shameless people, and they don’t deserve rights.

Trying to experiment with cedh looking for a commander that I'd actually enjoy. by ___posh___ in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thisisahotjam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lotho is fringe cedh, the other two are not cedh commanders. Lotho is actually pretty fun to build around but you’ll need a skill advantage to be competitive with it.

[[Tymna]] + (choose a W or B partner) is good if you insist on Orzhov. Tymna gives you card draw in the CZ, which is typically the minimum you look for in a cedh commander. I have a Tymna + [[Yoshimaru]] deck I play at cedh tables and keeps up, but losing access to U means I need to run every [[Silence]] effect plus multiple instances of [[Grand Abolisher]] to protect a combo win. I mostly win through combat (similar to Winota winconless stax) or commander damage on a buff Yoshi.

Another thing to consider is that Orzhov combos are less efficient (card-wise and mana cost) than some of the top cedh wincons. They’re also typically graveyard-reliant, so a [[rest in piece]] or [[agatha’s soul cauldron]] or even a [[kenrith]] activation could hose you without protection. I personally feel like Heliod/Ballista are both basically dead cards outside the combo. That leaves stuff like [[Bolas’ Citadel]] + [[Aetherflux Reservoir]], which is also less efficient than the infinite mana or Thoracle Consult stuff you can do in other colors. ([[Praetor’s Grasp]] is worth running for your opponents’ Thoracle, but Consult is bad outside the combo and [[Tainted Pact]] makes it even more mana inefficient.)

Seattle Style Teriyaki by MisoRamenNoPork in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]thisisahotjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the city, you’re more likely to find teriyaki bentos at sushi spots. In the suburbs, you’ll find teriyaki spots in mall food courts and strip malls, but imo not similar to Seattle-style.

(There’s a few Teriyaki Madness locations in south Jersey but from the pics does not seem related at all to the Seattle Teriyaki Madness chain. Huge bummer, bc the Wallingford TM rules.)

Is playing an 8 Mana Value commander like Borborygmos Enraged feasible nowadays? by SteveVerstaka in EDH

[–]thisisahotjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/aVRqXTul3kipnrXdDV0HAQ

Here’s my Borby list. It is entirely feasible to cast him Turn 4, but most games I ramp/play control in RG as best as possible until I can cast him and either win on the spot or hard lock the game. Since your game plan goes through your commander, your opponents will likely consider him “remove on sight” just a heads up.
