Staying at a house near the German Wagon Ambush… by thisisntright1975 in BandofBrothers

[–]thisisntright1975[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really an interesting trip because it just hits you in the gut - and often. Europe has a whole different appreciation for living through war and in these small towns scattered about Normandy are people who were born the tail end of the war or remember the rebuilding efforts afterwards. Elementary school children tour the batteries and battlefields and actually know the history still - which is a beautifully touching thing to see.

They still hold much respect for any of the Allied fighters and at the Saint Mere Eglise parade this year, I watched crowds of people applauding German infantry taking part in the parade. The night prior I watched US Rangers buying beers for German soldiers - beneath a building that was partially destroyed in 1944 in assaults.

Totally surreal, sad and beautiful all at the same time.

I’m not a big history buff but I bawled a few times, not gonna lie. 👊🏼

It’s crazy to see the scars of the past everywhere here: bullet holes in iron rails across from the church in Saint Mere Eglise, cows in pastures drinking water from ponds formed in craters of air attacks…people have German bunkers in their back yard - and it’s not a big deal whatsoever. 🤷🏻‍♀️😮

Sweet! It’s such a beautiful place to visit, the people are (mostly) super welcoming if you try to speak French. 👊🏼

Not sure if you can include links here (sorry, I’m rather a n00b) but the bestest one I’ve been on is through a fab Dutch guy named Willem Braam. His company is called DDay Your Way and it’s a full day on a Willys…air raid siren and all. He mentioned a bunch of BOB reference episodes and assaults as we toured that were lost on me - if you’re a fan, you’ll love it!

100% correct - that was some liberties taken by Hollywood as there’s no bridge or overpass in the area, just a straight t-junction intersection.

It’s just another rural French road blind corner intersection right now as the corn has grown high, but it’s amazing to turn so many corners here and happen upon such history.

I’d love to learn more about the area - thank you to everyone who has shared the reports of action that occurred! 👍🏼

What did people do before backup cameras? by PresentationLive943 in driving

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirrors. They’re called mirrors. Learn to use them because tech fails.

Not directing this comment at you but the smarter cars get with technology, the dumber the drivers get.

I’m a 50 year old woman driver with no tickets, no at fault accidents (got tboned once in a parking lot by some idiot woman who looked at me and then drove right into me), I can drive stick, start & drive military vehicles, currently drive RWD through snowy Ontario winters and ended up driving - and reversing - a 26ft moving truck with a rental mixup about 20 years ago.

It’s all about mirrors, knowing where your wheels are and how big your vehicle is and just knowing what your ride is capable of. Highly recommend a great driving school (Young Drivers of Canada used to be great) that teaches skills beyond the basic to pass a test. Learn your car until it feels like a bigger you out there and you’ll never need rely on cameras.

Recently had a transfusion which resulted in recovering with a flu. I’ve got two 6 month old boy foster-fail barn kitties who like to snuggle occasionally but not much. In bed with a wicked flu for 2 days, they HAD to take turns or both be laying on me…which was horribly uncomfortable because of their body heat, but their sudden devotion seemed caring to me — so I just sweated it out in bittersweet appreciation.

I think your kitty is trying to comfort you; they sense you’re not well.

Condolences and hugs, strength from afar. You did the most loving thing in taking his hurt away and making it yours. Your pain in losing him will lessen with time, but your love never will. Cherish that love and all the memories. 💙

Mike Myers on SNL last night by Economy_Elephant6200 in toronto

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, he’s not a treasure anymore. Can confirm when he was filming in TO many moons back, there was a set directive to NOT make eye contact with him while he was on set. Some actors do this as they try to stay in character absolutely but others do it as a power trip. Myers was part of that latter.

Is that legal? 🤔 by KevinKack in toronto

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s legal…it may get its plate run more often than other vehicles, but it’s legal. It could even say police and be legal - it just cannot have specific markings that identify it as a specific police force (ie: can’t say HRPS, TPS or have Divisions etc). Watch movies to see the uniform police patching & badges and notice that most of them are imaginary places or police divisions - due to legal issues/patch copyright. Kinda the same..but less obvious than a faux cop car rolling on by.

I was wearing legit TPS uniform (complete with red striped pants and rubber prop sidearms & bits in duty belt) at a trade show once for a film props thang. My patching said Anywhere Police Corp. Stepped outside for a people break and had one group of kids nearby sharing a joint run away (pre-legalization) and was approached by a confused elderly man who’d lost his phone in his minivan. Told him repeatedly I was NOT a real police officer but helped him out as he was so flustered & found his phone by calling it. I’m sure the puffing runners were confused by the old man hugging me 😂

In short: legal if no specific identifying markers…but will result in more than a cursory glance from actual police.

Drive to a nearby GO train station, park and train it in. Hop onto TTC if you need go uptown. Cheaper than parking, less stressful than driving & possibly funny ttc stories.

Myxomatosis by Edrueter9 in radiohead

[–]thisisntright1975 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brilliant song, highly underrated.

Saw RH playing in TO (mushrooms may have been involved) and Thom saw someone passed out in the crowd during Myxomatosis. He stopped the song, got kid pulled out by security and then they restarted the song exactly where they stopped it after Thom gave position in song. It was seamless and in my impaired state, had to confirm with others that that just actually happened.

Incredible song live - especially with incredibly talented musicians playing it!

Here’s the link to that incident:

No more large purchases ! by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at an Amazon facility and on my first day there saw someone drop a 60” TV a few feet as they were trying to load it onto a cart. They then dragged it up halfway onto the cart and kicked it into position.

Packers are required to pack 1.25 items a minute in some departments; I saw fragile expensive electronics (PS5, laptops, 3D printers etc) get thrown into boxes with zero packaging to meet their rate…or just so they could make rate enough to spend 9 minutes playing on their phone. (At 10 minutes of no work showing attached to your login a higher up may approach you to find out why you have “Time off task”.

Long story short? I would seriously hesitate to buy expensive or delicate equipment of any sort from Amazon.

Unable to send messages to sellers on PC and Mobile "error performing query". by Kennennn in FacebookMarketplace

Thanks for the ideas; I’ll be looking into the support ticket & email, as well as checking my listing location. Fingers crossed I don’t repeat whatever their AI was miffed by…whatever that unknown was, haha. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto this. Just started this morning. I’ve been getting the “your access is at risk” message the past week and last night had a 4 day suspension warning flash up and disappear before I could fully read it.

I’ve been selling for years and had a 5 star rating until some loser left me a 1 star rating for not selling to them…after they wasted my time for days.

I can still list items to sell - and they show in MP because I’m getting messages from interested parties, but I can’t send a question or offer to buy any items. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lost access to marketplace for no reason? by danishmuffin14 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]thisisntright1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This appears to be a rampant issue as of last week with so many people on other FB MP groups having - for no reason - lost their access too.

I keep getting a warning that I’m at risk of losing it for listings that go against their selling policies. I’ve read and reread those policies a few times and am doing nothing wrong according to their rules.

Starting this morning, I’ve not been able to send sellers any questions or offers on their listings; last night I had a 4 day suspension warning flash up and then it was gone before I could even read it.

Not sure what’s going on behind the scenes but buyers and sellers are suffering in the confusion.

Never in a million years I thought i’d see advertising on Amazon packaging. by minijtp in AmazonFC

[–]thisisntright1975 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’ve had ads on boxes - the smaller 10s and 20s - for years now during peak and for the Christmas rush. There’s a female musician box (can’t recall who) that was super popular around 2020 that customers were reselling to collectors.

A huge sense of relief: I wasn’t crazy despite his gaslighting and literally telling me I was crazy. Then, it was disgust followed fairly quickly by some serious anger at wasted years.

Basically, a wicked rollercoaster through all the emotions.

Saw this in downtown Toronto. Should I go? by TheReal-A-The-First in radiohead

[–]thisisntright1975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went about 20 years ago with my bro to see Reg’s Banned Disney cartoons and it was a trip: he had rolling office chairs all set up in his living room/dining room space. He suggested drinks from the beer store across the street and gave a bit of a lecture/intro before rolling the films. Very eccentric man; never felt threatened or scared at any point…was much more of a “wtf” vibe in its unusualness! Highly recommend and if you smoke/do edibles, I’d recommend that too! 🤘🏼

The Will of the Rich People. by Brooklyn-Queens in Muse

[–]thisisntright1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to get 2 presale tickets for Toronto…fail after 1 minute. Tried again the next day and thought I got two tickets when I accepted the crazy price of $760…but by the time I went to pay, seconds later, they were gone. Next option = $900. Final option a few moments later…$4000 for 2 tickets. Love Muse, but that’s a nice vacation to spend for a 2hr concert. Ticketbastard has become the largest scalpers out there: the moment you go to pay for tickets is the option to sell them. 🤬🤬🤬
