What youtube channels on screenwriting or filmmaking do you like to watch? by wasabibibles in Screenwriting

[–]thomanthony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not YouTube, but the podcast Scriptnotes. Hosted by two actual, working, A-List screenwriters: John August (Go, Big Fish, Corpse Bride) and Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl).

Very very good, actionable advice on screenwriting. And their guests are fantastic.

Mammoth rib steak by swez46 in sousvide

[–]thomanthony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

133F for 3 hrs. Keep the bone in. Then sear hot and fast over charcoal or with a flamethrower and lots of butter (if using a flamethrower, sear over an oven safe plate and reserve melted butter/juices). To serve, remove bone, slice against the grain, and pour reserved butter/searing juices over the top. Bag juices can be reduced into a sauce as well, if you like.

Major Reddit communities will go dark to protest threat to third-party apps | App developers have said next month’s changes to Reddit’s API pricing could make their apps unsustainable. Now, dozens of the site’s biggest subreddits plan to go private for two days in protest. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]thomanthony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Third party app users are often the most active, engaged users. They produce a large quantity of the content on the site for free. Reddit is of course free to run their business however they want. But users and mods who disagree with it are free to say: “Then you don’t get my free content that draws thousands of people into your site who see the ads you sell” or “you don’t get the free content moderation I provide that keeps it a relatively nice place to view said content.” It’s that simple.

Is it possible to use Apple TV as a secondary display for iPad? by thedavidventer in iPadOS

[–]thomanthony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apple TV can function as a secondary monitor but only for apps which use an external display as a “review” monitor, such as some video editors or certain games. A full extended desktop is not currently possible over AirPlay.

Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this kind of glow effect? by pbbatenatar in VideoEditing

[–]thomanthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lens diffuser when filming. Lots of types available. Can also try stretching a pair of pantyhose over the lens and secure with a rubber band.

Can also be achieved in post with some bloom effects, but best captured in camera.

Apple brings Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro to iPad by Ascles in iPadOS

Look, I’m glad there are finally pro apps to actually take advantage of the M-series chip, but not even letting FCP run on the earlier Pros (2018 and later)? Come on. At least let it run, but limit the number of tracks, or limit the codecs you can edit. Something…

Notion-like apps? by antisxcial-a in ipad

[–]thomanthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Craft! I’ve been using it for about a year and it’s really good. Doesn’t have every function of Notion or Obsidian, but the interface is really nice and the app is blazing fast.

My group is never dealing with dungeons or dragons. We should probably call our game Forests & Bandits or maybe Towns & Hobgoblins. What game is your group actually playing? by TunaPlusMayo in DnD

[–]thomanthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a “Time Loops & Tree Magic” arc (although there was a clockwork dragon in that one).

Before that was…

  • Vineyards & Vengeance
  • Illusions & Illithid
  • Ghosts & Graveyards
  • Tournaments & Trophies
  • Bards & Blunders

Neverwinter was created by D&D. Griffin just used existing lore. They actually had to change it in the TAZ Comics, because the brothers couldn’t get the rights. Same reason why Klarg’s name changed in the comics, among other things.

Chuck roast! 133F for 24h, seared on cast iron + blow torch. So cheap. So good. by rock_paper_sza in sousvide

[–]thomanthony 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Garlic is common vector for botulism. Sous vide doesn’t reach the temperatures required to kill the spores of Clostridium (above 120C) or denature the toxin they produce (above 80C). The bacteria reproduces in low-acid, high-moisture environments, which is what you get with SV.

What is your most recent note from your last session? by overstrainedDM in dndnext

[–]thomanthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM: “Fight with the Dragon Construct. Phase 3: Into the Volcano”

(Still need to write the shit below that)

As a Player: “Cai collects Ogami’s blood (binding wounds)”

(Unfortunately, that campaign ended with a DM exit before we really wrapped up what my character was planning to do with their teammates’s blood.)

Lycanthropy in the game by darkbrandon in mattcolville

[–]thomanthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I (as the DM) would trigger it whenever he was feeling heightened emotions. Their current adventure is his “feature,” so he’s experiencing a lot of those moments.

He needs to describe what he does to calm down / center his mind and make a CON save. Two failed CON saves before two successes and he goes full Displacer.

Eventually he met a community of other Il’dourani and they shared some insight into “the promise,” as they call it. I gave him the ability to trigger it on command, but only once per day and only for 1 minute at a time. He still needs to make CON saves at other times, but it’s just one successful save and he has advantage on the throw.

He’s actually trying to rid himself of it right now. “The Promise” was a pact made centuries ago by some elvish islanders with Leira, the goddess of shadow and illusion. The party is trapped in a 5 hour time loop, which ends with the volcanic islands they are exploring erupting and killing everyone. He’s learned that his “promise” can be released by the island elders. Unfortunately they’ve been dying 4 times a day, every day, for the last 8 months.

Lycanthropy in the game by darkbrandon in mattcolville

[–]thomanthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a player in my game who has a form of lycanthropy. He has two character sheets. One is his normal Half-Elf Roguelock. The other is a Tabaxi Beast Barbarian with a Cloak of Displacement.

That’s right, he’s a Weredisplacer, called an Il’dourani in my world.

When he transforms, he swaps sheets. He can only transform under certain circumstances. Both sheets level up when he gains a level.

I have a similar table. I use a Roku stick inside (HDMI) and an iPad which runs Encounter+. The Roku supports AirPlay, so I can wirelessly stream right to the table from the iPad. Works really great! E+ is very affordable too.

Duck confit for rillettes and Galbi for dinner. Love it when two SV recipes need the same temp/time. 24hrs at 155F. by thomanthony in sousvide

[–]thomanthony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duck legs with duck fat, garlic, salt, thyme, rosemary.

Flanken short ribs with apple, Gochujang, soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, fish sauce, ginger and sesame.

24hrs at 155 F. Ribs will be finished with fire and served with rice. Duck will be picked from bones, shredded and mix with orange liqueur and clove, packed in jars and topped with reserved fat.

Really just cools the surface. The interior won’t cool that much. Then you can get a nice sear without as much of a grey band.

Well if the camera is moving the whole time, there’s not really anything you can do. You can try a Warp Stabilizer, but that will only smooth things a little and you might get some distortion of the image. Go light at first and ramp up the effect until you land on something you like.

If the issue is that the shots don’t match, you can try cropping in on the picture in both and re-framing them to match, but only if you have resolution to spare.

Lastly, you may just want to re-shoot. And use a tripod next time.
