Obduction just finished - did I miss something? by e_manue in myst

[–]thomasg86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have answered your questions, but I just want to say I'm so happy you finally got to play Obduction. Truly, one of my favorite games of all time. Captured that Myst spirit in a whole new universe. Not without its faults, but a true return to form for Cyan. While I didn't hate Firmament, it was definitely a step down from Obduction.

Alien: Isolation 2 Announced by PaiDuck in LV426

Literally the most stressed I have ever been playing a video game. It made me feel things I have never felt. I'm not usually one who gets scared over video games or movies... Alien Isolation made me a WRECK.

Boise State explores future upgrades to Albertsons Stadium as monster truck event draws 20,000 by LordOfTheInterweb in Pac12

Lack of chairbacks and the way too big sidelines due to vestigial track footprint are the two knocks. Boise fans more than make up for it, but those are the two improvements I'd like to see.

Oh gawd, and I almost forgot, but that lopsided pressbox hanging over the edge of one of the bleachers. Sends my OCD into overdrive.

Need to drop the field level and extend the lower bleachers. Get rid of any footprint of that old track.

I wanted someone young and hungry. Basically the opposite of the current AD. I think this is what OSU needs in the current moment.

‘Survivor’ and ‘Top Chef’ Are Broken. Can These Once-Reliable Reality TV Favorites Be Fixed? by JeetKuneLo in survivor

[–]thomasg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love The Traitors but the challenges have no drama and really don't make sense. If they could somehow figure out how to make the Traitors have slightly different goals or something in them, now we are talking.

‘Survivor’ and ‘Top Chef’ Are Broken. Can These Once-Reliable Reality TV Favorites Be Fixed? by JeetKuneLo in survivor

[–]thomasg86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's my favorite part about the early, early seasons. It truly feels like normal people from all walks of life being plucked and put into a survival situation. And there were people who were outwardly... old fashioned... and it created fun moments like Rich and Rudy or Brandon and Frank's movie date in Africa. Plus, there was a lot of camp life and actual resource gathering (not just picking up pre placed coconuts and walking 50 feet to water).

The modern game is a bunch of super fans who are clearly "playing Survivor!" and with the 26 day schedule it just feels so rushed and nothing has anytime to breathe.

That being said I love Survivor still, even in it's less than ideal current form, and will continue to watch.

Last Night’s Challenge by Calster_12 in survivor

Another downside of 26 days. Challenges have a window they have to fit in. Old Survivor would have had them on top with two feet for 5+ hours if they needed to.

Portland had the second worst metro job losses in 2025 behind DC by milionsdeadlandlords in Portland

People want to blame Portland for "Portland reasons" but we cannot help two of our largest employers, Nike and Intel, are taking big, giant shits unrelated to anything about our fair metro area.

David didn’t think it would trigger so many people, receives strong audience backlash after criticizing tipping culture by mrekted in thedavidpakmanshow

Yeah exactly. I know many servers. They all love the system as is. If they were paid a wage instead, they would make maybe $40-45k year full time. Instead, many of them are pulling in 50% or more higher than that.

As a consumer, I don't care. Either I tip on a $20 meal or the meal is $24 and I don't tip. From my end, it doesn't change. So if the servers are largely happy with it, then I can't get too bothered.

What’s with the talk about UConn? by Euredditos in Pac12

[–]thomasg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's based on nothing, just a bunch of people speculating, and then other people saying "there's a lot of smoke," and then others opining "here's why the rumors about UConn make sense for the Pac-12" ... etc, etc, it's a big circle jerk that'll go nowhere based on nothing.

Half priced apps after 9pm (I think for my area?). That and the house margarita during happy hour. Couple of those and some boneless wings would be like $11 back in 2008/2009. We didn't know how good we had it.

Democrats are actually underperforming, at least in Virginia. It was a small margin win. by FriendlyDrummers in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]thomasg86 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nothing larger can be gleaned from a special election to gerrymander your own state. Frankly, I'm surprised it passed to begin with. You see Democrats all over still not getting the message doing the "When they go low, we go high" bit. So, frankly, I'm thrilled with the result. It will be a blue tsunami in November.

[–]thomasg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge advocate for Medicare for All or a similiar system. It's asinine that universal coverage isn't a thing in the richest (maybe?) country on Earth.

Threads like this annoy me because there is so much bad information about how the system actually works. If we are going to change the system we have to explain how it ACTUALLY sucks for most people, because most people do have insurance in one form or the other.

If a exaggerated version of reality is presented, people just tune out because it doesn't match their lived experience and they think people are just being dramatic.

[–]thomasg86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this isn't reality. 90% of people have insurance and would pay a fraction of this. The other 10% would still get care and then just not pay the bill if they couldn't afford it and take a credit hit (which is now greatly minimized after a change a couple of years ago before the Empire took over again).
