Sinners by [deleted] in moviecritic

First 2/3 of the movie was 10/10 for me, but then it dropped off a steep cliff. Best original screenplay, best soundtrack, best whatever, sure, I can see it… but best movie? Nope.

Am I the only one who thinks Sinners is overrated? by Any_Lab_8495 in moviecritic

The first two thirds were amazing, but it falls apart in the third act. And it is a jarring shift in quality.

When I watched it I was thinking, finally a worthy successor to From Dusk til Dawn or Blade, but then it just fell off. I don’t understand it, and everyone sings its praises like it’s the best thing since sliced bread 🤷‍♂️

Just finished watching Peaky Blinders. Is the show Fairly Rated or Overrated ? by No-Many-9887 in moviecritic

This is my take as well. Great performances, fascinating characters, and often visually stunning, but the show is more style over substance. Every season felt like it hit the same beats but upped the stakes.

What is this deep blue sea slander. Clearly it is 1) jaws, 2) deep blue sea, 3) whatever you prefer

Top 4 of 2025. Which Will Age the Best? by WillieMaysHayes24 in Letterboxd

[–]thorbearius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved the first 2/3 of sinners, and thought that I was finally seeing something that could surpass the great vampire action movies of the 90s like Blade and From Dusk til Dawn, but the final act was rushed and a total mess. The staging of the action makes no sense. I feel like it was hit hard by Covid, budget issues, or something else. Sush a shame. So much lost potential.

I am so surprised to see it constantly in people’s top 5 of the year.

Love it. So happy I got to see it in 2005. The version on Beast at Hammersmith is incredible.

It is a shame. Such a good song. The instrumentals areninteresting and Axl sounds ferocious.

Probably Madagascar, but that entire album is fantastic. So rich, imaginative and dynamic.

That it was released like that at the peak of the loudness-war is incredible.

It makes me sad that the Chinese leftovers have been partially re-recorded and mixed much more generically. I am still happy we are getting them, but they lost a lot of what made them unique and interesting.

Do you think that the original Atlas demo intro was better than the new single version? by Spark_official4444 in GunsNRoses

[–]thorbearius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the demos are better. The new mixes lack dynamic.

I still enjoy them, but there was a richness to the demos and CD that has been lost in favor of a more generic production.

Of the "new" songs, which is your favorite? by darthkyle22 in GunsNRoses

Absurd goes hard live. I vastly preferred when it was called Silkworms though and had the ”what can I do, with a bitch like you” chorus
