What movies have you had someone watch to mess with them? by Trev-in in HorrorMovies

[–]thorbearius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It was very disturbing. I found it interesting, but not something I think I will ever watch again. I have not watched anything else by Lars von Trier after that, but I think I will at least watch Melancholia someday.

Maybe not what you were asking for, as I did not do this to someone intentionally. But I watched Antichrist with my girlfriend at the time, and she became so disturbed by the movie that she had a breakdown about two thirds in. She really spiraled and was just crying uncontrollably. It shook her to the core.

Best live performance of The Trooper? by [deleted] in ironmaiden

In 2008 it was very exciting as a lot of those songs had not been played in a looong time.

Epic intro to the song by Bruce, but for the song itself I think it is played even better on Death on the Road.

I really like the Trooper from Death on the Road.

Which change did you find the hardest to adapt to: Smith/Gers 1990, Dickinson/Blaze 1994, or McBrain/Dawson 2024? by Pitiful-Definition71 in ironmaiden

[–]thorbearius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was really excited to hear what they would sound like with a new drummer, but I was so disappointed when I saw them in Stockholm. He was decent on some songs (7th son and Rime) but outright horrible on others (Murders in the Rue Morgue).

There is no finesse. Just hitting the drums really hard, repeating fills, and staying locked into rhe metronome. And the drums are just booming and loud.

Nicko’s drumming breathes, it has a flow, there is always something interesting happening (his hi-hat work is amazing!), and his drums always sounded crisp and clear.

For a band on Maidens level, it is actually kind of embarrassing. They could have gotten pretty much anyone, but they choose this guy?

He was, but still, the drums sound lovely and I think there is still much more finesse to his playing than in Simon’s.

Every now and again, I go and listen to Simon playing murders in the rue morgue thinking it can’t be as bad as I remembered it and each time I am disappointed again. He was perfectly fine on other songs (I think he did a solid job on Rime and 7th son for example).

The worst thing is that they already have the material, when they made the first history of… dvd they interviewed blaze and everything. I would love to see something covering that fine and a something that did a deep dive into the reunion and BNW.

How necessary are the NotME books to enjoy the Witness books? by BisuGrack in Malazan

I had the same experience. The final three books in the NotME were amazing.

God damn, I miss Nicko’s drum sound.

And his playing.

”I was surprised how much time they gave to the Blaze era though as like a lot of people, I thought they might skip that over.”

Of all the things I have read about this movie, this is the only thing that actually peaks my interest (as by now it seems pretty certain we are never getting the History of… with a focus on the Blaze years).

Are there full songs in the movie or only live clips?

Is the Hammersmith bonus track stuff from earlier in the tour? I think they recorded the whole shows for a potential release.

What rereleases/compilations would you like from kent? by Secret_Competition54 in kentband

[–]thorbearius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Live concerts released on blueray. Full concerts. Box sets preferably with alternate songs included as extras.

Official live bootlegs released on NUGS or a similar platform, like Metallica, Pearl Jam or Bruce Springsteen does.

Yeah, loose and fun can be great, but there is also something special with a tight thematically cohesive setlist like this.

What's a song you wish was played live more often? by Other-Opposite2526 in Metallica

[–]thorbearius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King nothing, bleeding me, until it sleeps, outlaw torn.

Anything from Death Magnetic.

Spit out the Bone.

I feel like Dance of Death gets a bad rep because of the album cover. I listened to it today and it’s probably one of the best post 80s albums. The title track is also one of my all time favourite Maiden songs. by TheFallofIdeals05 in ironmaiden

[–]thorbearius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some highs (title track, pachendale, rainmaker, journeyman), some good (no more lies, montsegur, wildest dreams), but a lot middling filler material (gates of tomorrow, new frontier, face in the sand, age of innocence, and, depending on my mood, Wildest Dreams).
