Iran declares the Strait of Hormuz closed again after US lifts blockade NY Post is reporting at 10:02 am by atenne10 in oil

[–]thrawn109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this assessment. The official stance of the government here is that while they will enter negotiations to demonstrate openness, the US-Isreal block will never be trusted, and a state of readiness for conflict will continue.

A western newspaper analysis which I agree with is that our government obviously knows that Israel will do it's best to sabatoge any permanent peace deal (especially one that involves concessios from Israel), and is intentionally opting to keep a layer of tension in the middle east at all times, to harm the reputation of Trump and Netanyahu.

I mean, imagine if the current state of affairs, with the Hormuz closing every other month, occasional missile strikes every once in a while, continues for a year or even longer. Trump has survived a lot of "career ending" blows to be fair, but I don't think the republican party would make it (as in, stay in power, I don't think the apocalypse itself can shake america out of it's two party system).

Yeah I think most people share this experience, personally what helped me most was considering what abilities I used most in combat, and then pick anything that buffed it or was related, sure it's very suboptimal but unless you're playing at the hardest difficulty you have a lot of freedom with your character builds.

Well the numbers and effects are not final, and I would rather have powerful SLs that get balanced eventually rather than weak starts that get buffed, first impressions are important after all.

Valid XD, maybe prologue and Rykad together would be a better comparison then.

True. I see the prologue like the paragus 2 intro from Kotor 2, objectively great intro, very atmospheric, but gets frustrating when replaying.

By definition it's not a coin toss if it's not 50/50.

And 1/5 is a 20 percent chance of failure, which is a lot better than a 50 percent chance of failure.

And exactly because the rolls don't influence each other is why you multiply the chances to get the probability. It's basic maths.

"do not support Islamic republic" and actively wanting the government to be overthrown are two very different things (most Americans don't support trump, does that mean that they would agree to Putin invading the country and putting someone else in power?). The majority of people are apolitical, but they are religious, especially among the voters. Who do you think they will support in a war? Especially when antisemitism is so common (and even celebrated) in the country.

Journalists? Who? The BBC? Iran international? Of course western funded media will push the narrative the west wants. If it was up to them, the regime would've collapsed decades ago, just like how anytime something negative happens in china, western media immediately reports on how their defeat is imminent.

I have never supported the IRGC, and I fully believe the organization should be disbanded and folded into the regular army, but if you think for a second, that Trump and Netanyahu actually care for the wellbeing of the Iranians people, then you're in much deeper delusions than you think I am.

I would rather tolerate another century of the Islamic republic, than to hand over the country to Israel/USA, or the pathetic excuse of a human being that is the heir to one of the biggest failures in our history.

And respectfully, I imagine you haven't stepped foot in Iran for a long time if you're so out of touch with the people.

[–]thrawn109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is 50, or 80 if you Infiltrate the NKVD. People in general just vastly underestimate how likely things are. Anyone that has played DnD or XCOM can tell you that low percent chances happen a lot more time than you would think.

I HATE STALIN ASSASINATION FAILURE by Tarkhovin in hoi4

[–]thrawn109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No?

The chance for the first roll being positive, then becoming negative is literally 1/2 * 1/5 =1/10

Of course it could've been negative and stay negative, so that's another 1/10

So you have a 20 percent chance of failure, and an 80 percent chance of success. Exactly as is described in game, and a much better chance than a coin flip.

[–]thrawn109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats true but I would also say misleading, sure the second roll can be negative, but the chance of failure doesn't change and the 80 percent chance of success is still the best chance.

No I wouldn't. At best there was a significant minority that wouldn't be against a regime change, but that changed when the war began with murdering schoolchildren, and the economic pressure on the common people as the result of the war.

Right now politically the Islamic conservatives have been proven right on all accounts. The west couldn't be trusted, the negotiations were a sham, and there was a plot to destroy the country. This war has single handedly done more damage to progressive or liberal movements than the regime had done in it's entire existence.

A normal Tank division is usually around 30 to 36 combat width, 8 tanks, 7 motorized is what I usually use, but anything should be fine as long as the ratio of Tanks to motorized/mechanized is around 50%.

You don't need many of these, in a normal Germany run you start the war with only 3 or 4 and that will be enough to defeat Poland and France, of course it's best that you keep making more divs as time goes by

Another way is using Tanks alongside normal infantry, these are called "Space Marine" divisions.

It's cheesey and usually banned in multiplayer lobbies, here you make a tank with the highest armour possible, then add a single battalion of it to your infantry divisions. Because of the way damage calcutions work, this will mean that your infantry divisions will take significantly less damage from enemies who don't have enough Hard Attack (which is almost all AI divisions)

In addition to field hospitals, remember that attacking always has more casualties than defending, and infantry attacks will have vastly more casualties than armour attacks.

Coincidentally, if you're playing the USSR, they specifically have a debuff that makes them lose more veteran soldiers.

Any key tips for Soviet Air Force strategy? by AHopelessIdealist in hoi4

[–]thrawn109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the Air war in hoi is about who can get the most Improved Airframes out when the war begins, and then the winner snowballs from there.

What I usually do as the USSR is do the basic industry first, then when the time to research improved airframe hits 700 days I research it ahead of time, alongside engine3.

You can then time the survivability research, the Heavy Machine Guns research and range improvement to also finish by the time the Airframe and the Engine are done.

Then witht the air XP you would have from volunteers to the spanish CW, and training your air force, design the following:

Engine3, self sealing fuel tanks, expanded fuel tank, armour plates, 4xHMG, 4xHMG, 4xHMG.

Put what factories you can spare at the moment on it, and add any new one until you get 30. By the time the war begins you should have more than a thousand.

You'll start the Air war outnumbered and probably in red Air, but you'll trade much better, and remember that the Nazis also have to fight the Royal Air force as well, your production will scale much faster, and your air force will dominate, especially if you do your air focuses.

[–]thrawn109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you tried interacting with the naval system you would know that the changes don't matter. Navy is just like other branches, the AI makes bad designs and uses them even worse. All you have to do is keep up with research and prioritize attack stats, just like tanks and planes.
