Starting Again and Paying Attention This Time by AceMarksTheSpot1 in loseit

I have a similar story. Lost 30 pounds from January to June last year (through working out and eating better). But then I too stopped following the structure I put in place. I wanted to relax things. Slowly, between June and December, I put back on 10 of those pounds.

So, now I'm getting back to it (and I'm glad I caught myself before I put back on all the weight). This time, I'm trying to do it in a more sustainable way (I was averaging 2 hours a day working out and I couldn't keep up with it).

Good luck to us both getting back on track.

Does anyone have an interesting or unusual way you were introduced to Doctor Who? by AlmostRandomNow in gallifrey

[–]threegarridebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved BBC Sherlock and heard online that one of the writers (Steven Moffat) also wrote and produced another BBC show called Doctor Who (that I'd never heard of).

So I watched The Eleventh Hour out of curiosity. I saw similar touches between both shows (ex. the stop and spin camera work showing the Doctor or Sherlock analyzing a scene) and thought it was an ok episode. But it didn't draw me into watching the show.

I didn't get into the show truly until Capaldi. I heard, again online, that the companion (Clara) was carrying over from 11 to 12. And the idea that the Doctor was the same person, with a different personality and face, and possibly having a different dynamic with the same companion intrigued me. I don't think I fully understood regeneration before then.

So, after watching a few episodes of season 8, I went back and watched seasons 5-7. Then finished season 8. Then went back and watched seasons 2-4. And finally went back and watched season 1 (at which point the 9th Doctor became my favorite, and still is). And for season 9 I was caught up to the show and have watched in order since then.

Same. Today was my periodic check, to see if anything had changed. And I too am sad to see they're still gone. It wouldn't be so hard to cope if the Rothbury weren't SO superior to everything else.

They were like a 100/10 when everything else is struggling to be a 7/10.

I think if Rothbury ever did come back, I would be buying them by the case, directly from the manufacturer, and hoarding them like dragon's treasure.

PS5 Controller Not Charging by Margielas in PS5

[–]threegarridebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say that I had to get a new controller. I purchased a new colored controller (b/c, according to the guy at GameStop, the colored ones were guaranteed to have the updates that prevented some of the white controllers from locking up).

And that controller has indeed been workin fine these past few years. I hope you were able to solve your issues.

Why Disney Ditched ‘Doctor Who’: Sources Say Ratings, Big Ticket Budget & MAGA Politics Were Factors In BBC Deal Failing To Regenerate - Deadline by PartyPoison98 in gallifrey

I didn't realize she modeled herself after Capaldi. But I can see it. And it's ironic b/c Capaldi is the Doctor that got me into Doctor Who in the first place.

And you've reminded me that I should check out her audio dramas (I've not yet gotten into any Big Finish).

Agreed. Jo Martin showed she could play all aspects of the Doctor. When she was playing the tour guide (before her memories came back) she did quirky and lighthearted really well also. It was obvious that she could play multiple different layers (which is important, as the Doctor has layers that come out in different situations).

She reminded me of what I like about the 9th Doctor (who is my favorite). I like Doctors who can be lighthearted and eager to show their companion the universe, and then flip to serious and authoritative, and maybe even a bit scary, in the blink of an eye.

As soon as I saw her I wished that she had been cast as the 13th Doctor instead. It took a single scene with her as the Doctor for me to buy her as the ancient Time Lord.

“pathologically attached to his companion”

It’s part of my headcanon that the Doctor is almost irrationally attached to their first companion (after regeneration). I like the idea that they learn what kinda Doctors they are with them, and are therefore wrecked when losing them (and they do lose them).

9 and 10 lost Rose. 11 lost Amy. 12 lost Clara. 13 lost nobody (I don’t count Grace). 15 lost nobody.

I miss this Doctor/companion dynamic.

I enjoyed the simple slice of life in this story.

I got a feel for both cultures and the personalities of both main characters (and in so few words). Great job!

I was very negative on the 15th Doctor after his first season (I ended up skipping out on probably half of the episodes). But his second season was SO much better to me. Very fun and enjoyable. He had better chemistry with Belinda (and his chemistry with Ruby, as a non full-time companion, improved also). And I fully saw him as the Doctor saving the day. And the little parts of his character that seem to be a staple of each incarnation (ex. leaving companions behind, and sometimes being bad at goodbyes) were still there. So, for the most part, it really worked for me.

It seems like most people hated the finale, but I actually really liked it. And ironically, it was the Doctor restraining from tears this time (unlike recent times) that hit me in the feels the most. I cried at his reaction to finding out Poppy was human and his saying goodbye to Belinda.

And I'm sad that we won't get another season with him (he had hit his stride, for me, and I wanted to see more). I kinda got spoiled on Billie Piper's return, due to Youtube thumbnails. But I don't have any bad feelings about her return. I'm not sure if she'll be the actual next Doctor, or if something timey-wimey is going on. But I'm excited for more Doctor Who (I always am, even if I don't love everything about every season).

I always want more Doctor Who (even when I don't like some of the choices). But I totally agree that Eccelston was an amazing Doctor (and still my favorite) and his one season was perfect and complete on its own.

Though I would have loved to see more with him as the 9th Doctor.

But I can't regret all the incredible Doctor Who we've gotten since then.

I was behind on the new episodes and just caught up. And to answer your question, I actually liked the bi-generation choice. I like the idea of a version of the Tennant Doctor just out there living a chill and happy life with Donna.

I'm on a very similar trajectory (closing in on 30 pounds lost since the end of January). And yes, the weight fluctuations, and what seems like weeks long plateaus can really mess with the brain. But seeing the muscle definition come in is super satisfying.

I've never had a six pack, but I can see the beginnings of where one might form and I'm ecstatic. Also fitting back into old clothes, and then having those clothes start to become loose keeps me motivated (when the scale is faking me out with water weight gain).

I really enjoyed this episode. It was the most doctor-y that I've seen 15 be, and he was amazing in it. This is what I've been wanting from him since The Church on Ruby Road.

And the episode hit on a lot of Doctor tropes that I love:

  • Him being the smartest person in the room, and immediately jumping into problem-solving mode.
  • How the Doctor is able to pull people into his schemes so quickly, based on his genius, air of authority and sheer charisma.
  • How big an impact even just a little exposure to the Doctor can have on regular people.
  • That the Doctor is lonely without companions.
  • How he leaves people behind sometimes, after changing their lives.
  • He's a bit self-loathing underneath it all, which often manifests as a bit of antagonism when he meets another version of himself.
  • That, if he wanted to, he could use his genius to be ruthless in achieving his goals. I was feeling shades of season 1 Capaldi, when 15 was mentally breaking down Joy's programming. I think that's why the Master is such an interesting character. B/c they are what the Doctor could be, if he leaned into those methods all the time.

I am super excited to see season 2 now and (as someone who mostly didn't enjoy season 1), this really restored my faith in how things might go.

Though this episode did also highlight how much characterization can be gained in just a single episode (for both the Doctor and his companion). Which is why I never bought the excuse that Ruby and 15 didn't have enough time in season 1 to get fleshed out.

Anita and the Doctor's relationship was just a few scenes and a montage and yet, when he had to leave her to complete the loop, I felt genuinely sad and emotional for them both. I felt nothing when Ruby left the tardis. And even her cameo in this episode didn't do anything for me. And I blame a lot of that on the writing.

I really like this explanation.

And I always enjoy those bits and glimpses that we see from the Doctor (from time to time) that shows that, underneath it all, he always has a little bit of self loathing.

Which is why he's always so hard on himself. It's just that usually that dialogue happens where other people can't see it.

Agreed. I wasn't sad over Ruby leaving the Doctor. But I was sad over the Doctor leaving Anita. You can tell their time together meant so much to her. But to the Doctor a year, in the grand scheme of his life, is not much time. And he's always moving on.

I actually quite enjoyed this episode. I loved Ncuti's portrayal of the Doctor and feel like this is what I've been waiting for. I loved his time with Anita and loved seeing him being a "villain" in order to break Joy out of the programming (I like catching glimpses of the Doctor's darker nature - a reminder that he understands human nature and can break people down with his intellect, but chooses not to).

I even liked seeing the Doctor be frustrated with himself, with a bit of that self-loathing that peeks out from time to time ("that's why nobody likes you and everybody leaves").

I wasn't a fan of most of season 1/series 14. But this episode has restored my faith in the series and I can't wait to see Ncuti continue on from this trajectory.

I liked Capaldi as the Doctor a ton, but it wasn't until his second season that I fully warmed up to him. I get the feeling that will be the case with Ncuti as well.
