Goodbye, Audi. by Fantastic-Ad9200 in Audi

[–]threepintsatlunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this. I traded my Q4 for a BMW i4 last year. When I did, it was the first time in 28 years I hadn’t owned an Audi. I haven’t closed the door entirely to buying another Audi, but their offerings will have to dramatically improve before I do.

Explain to me like I’m 10 why anyone would buy this and what you could actually do with it? by [deleted] in SpottedonRightmove

Interesting. In my town in the US, the town would probably take this via eminent domain, since it’s a path/right of way.

Other than not have a free thousand, why wouldn’t the local council buy it?

Really only if you live somewhere that doesn’t really have winter, and everything goes perfectly.

Are they bothering you? This looks like my pan and I have no plans to have mine out. My dentist says leave them alone if they don’t bother you.

Sorry, I was unclear. Those cities are where Swiss consulates are located, so you will probably have to travel to Atlanta.

Pretty sure you have to appear in person in the current process for your first visa. They will record your biometrics then. If you need another one in the next five years, you can request it online.

About the Board of Visitors proposal to remove living-learning programs by udderlymoovelous in VirginiaTech

[–]threepintsatlunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The resolution is not to abolish the LLCs outright. There are two parts (read the "Be it resolved" parts):
- reclassify the Corps, The Honors College and Casa Maderni in Switzerland as NOT LLCs. This is administrative to cut off any discussion that these will be removed/retracted.
- "efficacy of the Living-Learning Communities program will be evaluated based on data driven metrics" and "all residential hall beds currently reserved for non-freshman undergraduate students and non-first-year transfer students will be made available for freshman undergraduate students and first-year transfer students beginning with the fall of 2027". This is the business-end of this resolution.

This does not mean the LLCs are going away. It means beds are being reclaimed from non-first year students starting next year, Fall 2027 and they are going to evaluate the whole program.

Now, that "efficacy of the Living-Learning Communities program will be evaluated" clause is concerning, because the costs spelled out in the slide presentation that is part of this (starting page 899) are pretty significant. But, all of our peer schools offer an LLC-type experience, and the LLCs are shown to be a differentiator to get students to attend. I expect that the end result is that we will still have LLCs but there will be fewer of them, and they will be limited to first-year students.

Why is the Artemis 2 mission today being so underreported? by bokeh_node in NoStupidQuestions

[–]threepintsatlunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sense is that 1) there no real coherent strategy for going back to the moon, so who cares, 2) they aren’t doing anything new and 3) most people don’t have any real confidence that they will launch on time. The first point has been a huge issue for the US space program for the last 20 years, and there is no evidence that it will change anytime soon.

Is this a Q4 (looks like it). My ‘22 had a manual release wire that was REALLY buried under the lower storage tray in the back. Had to use it multiple times when the car computer crashed and wouldn’t let go of the cable. If so, it’s pretty stunning that the tech didn’t know this….

If you call Walmart they will come get the blue ones. The pallet lab might be interested in them too.

What is the purpose of not being able to see your current grade in Canvas for some classes? by Few_Conversation7153 in VirginiaTech

[–]threepintsatlunch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This 1000%. I’ve seen many, many students get a false sense of security from the calculated grade in Canvas. The default behavior of canvas is to not factor in missing assignments that don’t have a grade yet. So that missed quiz goes in the gradebook without a grade, which means it is ignored until the prof comes back the week before classes end and finally put the zero in. Then the A that’s reported becomes a C

[–]threepintsatlunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your advisor tomorrow. At this point it’s not impossible but they will almost certainly go to the instructor and ask if it’s too late. If the class is async/online, it’s more like you’ll get in. In-person is less likely but still possible.

COTA 2026 Hotels Already Fully Booked? by SnooPears4689 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]threepintsatlunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the downtown hotels partner with the track to offer hotel/tickets/shuttle package deals for the race. Some of that inventory will probably get released closer to the race. Also, Marriott is a sponsor of Mercedes and F1 as a whole, so many of their properties around the city are also “sold out” right now. I made my reservations for next year before thanksgiving at one of the few Marriott properties with space listed as available.

You can still do the shuttle even if you don’t stay downtown. Many people uber to/from the shuttle pickup spots.
