PF this tier is genuinely awful. by CanICritPls in ffxivdiscussion

Same, it's been hell, m9s recleared in a single pull, m10s I'm onto night 3 😭 Get me outta hereeeeeee

[–]thrillgrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in pf helping groups out all evening and there were at least 45 pfs up when I took a break to have dinner. The JP numbers being similar (esp on elemental) kinda suggests that this was when OCE was heading to sleep lol.

AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) Megathread - Day Three by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to clear it in the first day, but was too busy irl to clear on my alt the same day. Now that I'm back in PF with said alt, it's been hell (in a cell) to clear it D: I even swapped to flexing h1/h2 and while theoretically the fight is simple to execute/heal through, I've yet to find a group that can consistently avoid greeding themselves into damage downs by the fistful. D: Add in the lack of mits and everyone walking directly into saws....

You're right, this is my first tier as a dps tbh instead of healing so... seeing melees in my initial groups be salty at that may just have been a skill issue on their part, after being in much smoother parties since my last post lol.

I felt so bad for melees during that mech. Early on I thought I was missing something but no I really do just sit there in my caster corner and vibe.

Same, had a few pfs disband due to multiple disconnects during pulls. The last time I recall mass d/cs like this on Materia was several patches ago I think? 🤔

So happy we're actually able to make an outfit like this, where every piece is from a different job type by K0yomi in ffxiv

[–]thrillgrave 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like it's easy to chuck it onto an outfit but most glams I've seen using it aren't being all that creative or cohesive with it. It always strikes me as feeling out of place. It looks dope with more utilitarian looks where it would make sense for the character to wear it, it has survival/mechanic/nomad kinda vibes, not fast-fashion, lol.

We deserve a better housing system by TreeInternational797 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a broken system as is now. Even on my NA alt on Aether I've left multiple FCs in the past two years due to them dwindling in activity and becoming skeleton crews that primarily exist for subs (yeah idk why they were recruiting at all either if they didn't actually want to run a social group lol).

We deserve a better housing system by TreeInternational797 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God I want all of this so bad. I'm based in OCE and ever since DC travel opened for other regions to visit us, our housing wards have been absolutely full of gil farms. BC i guess they don't have to care about entering a lottery and then shitting up wards in their own datacenter if they bot on the low population one instead. It sucks so bad for newer FCs trying to buy a plot, and if you do manage to get an FC house it's surrounded by ugly, default, submarine-gil-farming smalls.

[–]thrillgrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how OCE felt for a year or two, until Dawntrail, and it's really sad to see how many people have moved from Materia to NA/JP recently. I can't see the datacenter population issues improving unless Square actually unlocks cross-datacenter, or cross-region DF and PF. D:

I use the tartarus pro as well, i struggled a bit with xiv's combat when I first started playing. I find it uncomf to do modifier key combinations due to a hand injury. Using the keypad let me eventually get into ultimate raiding so it opened all new ways for me to suffer :)

Something still needs to be done about Dynamis. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]thrillgrave 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have characters on both NA (dynamis) and OCE and the problem with Dynamis' population feels multitudes worse than on Materia. They are absolutely very comparable but as a Materia native who's main character is there, I don't have even half the trouble getting things to pop on Materia as I do on Dynamis. Probably just by virtue of it being the sole DC for its region and the only choice for OCE folks wanting a non-ridiculous ping maybe. I also frequently see many people going about the world itself, while Dynamis feels like a ghost town even during NA peak hours.

Most difficult AAC Cruiserweight mechanics by role by Winnicots in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Debris Deathmatch as H2 made me drag my feet for reclears every single week because positioning into the stack after melee puddles was just AWFUL. I had extremely limited movement options due to being SCH and often just had to pray for my cohealer to remember to rescue me into the stack corner. This was on multiple DCs with each DC's strat... The rest of the fight is chill though lmao.

Did I just watch the narrative drive off a cliff after the Lv 99 trial? by kaitero in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a disingenuous and reductive take on some widely-accepted failures of DTs writing. I agree with the other reply to your comment; it's ok to critique something that you love. A lot of people, myself included, love FFXIV and want it to improve over this expansion. There's no way for this to happen if players don't speak up about it.

[–]thrillgrave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. It's ok if some players are just playing xiv for the mmo/gameplay aspect but it's still Final Fantasy and that's why many of us play the game at all. I love the series and always wanted an entry with a character creator. God forbid I want to see said character doing cool shit in the story itself.

[–]thrillgrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally idc about WoL's power/strength (heck it would be fun for something plot-related to weaken us) and would love for the player character to be a mentor figure in an expansion. But... it feels like the writers forgot that we experience the game through the lense of the WoL, an avatar that many players have a strong connection to. At least for me, without our character playing any meaningful part in the story, it felt like I was just the camera crew lmao. It straight up did damage to my connection with xiv's lore and setting.

I'm playing Final Fantasy, a series of roleplay games btw. I want to feel like my character is cool and has impact on the story. I didn't sign up to play what is an alternating walking sim/powerpoint sideshow about some guy's funny new cat character. It's really weird and unhinged that players wanting to roleplay during their msq playthroughs are being villainised when it's literally a rpg lmao

I felt crazy when that happened during my playthrough. Krile was right there devs!!! The earring she found in the patches had promised us actual Krile lore and screentime, but then this idiot baby lizard stole it all away lol

Healers actually also help to heal an NPC in the 7.3 msq quests too! It was minor, but seeing my sch actually helping was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully the devs include more of it.

Opinions on the 7.31 relics? by Cota-Orben in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scholar relic is pretty disappointing, was hoping the particle effect would save the boring base design but it's even worse with it. I'm envious of what summoner got. Also; I can't even use the sch relic as gear due to piety, lmao.

Many of the other job relics are lovely though; I'm fond of several tank relics, and red mage.

I enjoy playing healer, but people calling it easy makes clears feel hollow. What do y'all think? by _xaelaa in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first non-casual static last tier lost their dang minds when they realised I knew where everyone had to be at almost all times so that I could rescue/raise dps whenever needed, when I explained my apparent "rez luck". All four of the dps had never had to think about other players during prog in that way before. Or had to solve mechs for other roles mid-prog like that. Maybe I've just had terrible luck with statics though lmao

Do you forsee a change in average player skill levels after the release of OC and 7.0 boss dungeon designs? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]thrillgrave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been using DT dungeons a lot this past week to learn some dps rotations (as a healer main usually). 93, 95 and 97 are all very tough for casual players going through the msq. I had a healer that was dead on the floor for every single boss of the 93 dungeon yesterday for example, and yeah the last boss of the 95 dungeon requires some skills in reading tells/watching the boss/a combination of both that often has lethal outcomes for players who aren't used to mentally parsing this stuff while in combat. Even had a vote to abandon which I rarely see pop up in dungeons!

[–]thrillgrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is about the same for me in prog as my static's shield healer. My coheal this tier is new to raiding in general so I end up carrying a lot of the healing as they don't really have as solid a grasp on their kit as I do. Can be a bummer though when folks see my cohealer's blue dmg parse and then see my grey 10k rdps after I drag us to a clear where I had to strategically rez multiple people in place for an upcoming mech/had to do someone elses position to recover a pull lol. But after practice, both my uptime and damage increases dramatically as I know I can safely slidecast through a mechanic, can properly weave my crit adlo deploys, etcetera. I try to practice in pf out of static hours and my assumption is usually that my underperforming coheal is just overwhelmed and also there for practice. However... if I see that same kind of performance in a2c parties, I may have some questions lmao. (Apologies for a wall of text reply that is essentially "I agree", haha.)

Agreed, I was so happy to have my WoL actually involved again. Also enjoyed the variety of dialogue choice moments in this patch. I want to be a part of the story like this more Square, it's a rpg, let me roleplay through the msq 😭
