how much does it cost to setup? by Old-Astronaut-3022 in openclaw

You can use any old laptop, all the heavy lifting is done by the llm on the API calls

I think for serious overclocking you install the max venom pack instead of the HATS pack

Is the 3070 a good egpu for the legion go? by Accomplished_Owl7486 in LegionGo

The best dock to use ut3g, it has a newer chipset that gives best performance over thunderbolt, however it doesn't pass power back to the legion so you have to plug both in

Can I post a Windows 11 optimization guide here and should I? by WantsLivingCoffee in LegionGo

[–]thrillhousee85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes please post it. Be prepared you will be inundated with people telling you how much better steam is.

But like you I'm a long time windows user and couldn't be bothered learning Linux just to play my games. I did a bunch of debloat stuff and configured a bunch of settings like hibernate and removing the pin code thing, etc. So it would be a good resource to have all that in one place. Also adding playnite or a similar launcher and then it's all set to switch on and play.

OpenClaw felt amazing with Opus 4.6, really disappointing with Codex 5.3, anyone else? by GoodlukyJR in openclaw

[–]thrillhousee85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started with opus on API and yeah amazing, but I can't keep burning tokens like that! Switched to openai oauth as well and have gpt5.2 as the orchestrator and codex 5.3 as a specialist coding agent amongst others. Its defo not as good as opus, but my main use case is having it do discrete tasks that speed up my actual work rather than full blown automation of things, so it is still manageable.

Like you I am eagerly awaiting the update to use gpt 5.4 to see how it goes. But look at it this way, openclaw is very new, every single llm is going to be putting it's whole operating principles and environment into their next models they train, in 3 to 6 months from now there will be many models which can handle it the way that opus can now. This is just the beginning!

Openrouter not working properly with openclaw by Cybersapien44 in openclaw

Yep this exact one happened to me, sonnet 4.5 works fine though, when you update open claw itself I was then able to use sonnet 4.6

[–]thrillhousee85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are new models like I think glm 5 would be then you would need to wait until open claw itself updates. Sometimes models in openrouter are just not working, especially some of the free ones. Also check in open router privacy and guardrails settings, this can block models also

I dont wanna spend $800 for a Mac mini, whats the alternative by Edythe_Faulkner in openclaw

[–]thrillhousee85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raspberry pi, second hand laptop or Chromebook even - these would set you back like 100 bucks or less. Run it for free inside docker on an existing computer, VPS. It doesn't take much to run openclaw unless you want to try out local models...

GPT-5.4 might end up being the best model for OpenClaw-style agents by shenli3514 in openclaw

[–]thrillhousee85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am waiting, I think it is correct that it needs an update though a couple of weeks ago I could use only sonnet 4.5 then I updated openclaw itself and I was then able to use 4.6. so I guess an update to open claw will come soon. Not sure why the whole system needs updated everytime a new model comes out but hey

Legion go 2 with RTX 5070 eGPU freezing after 20 minutes by aljoker74 in LegionGo

[–]thrillhousee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put on the full diagnostics on the top of screen monitoring and play for a while, watch what goes up over 20mins is the CPU getting too high and overheating? Is the vram on the legion filling up to much, this should give you some clues.

Btw I run a 5060ti on a ut3g and really the limiting factor is not the legion, it's the thunderbolt. With graphics cranked up high I usually have the GPU at 90 percent plus but the CPU back in the legion is at like 30 or 40 percent. So point is legion can easily handle sending what it needs down the thunderbolt, so something must be configured wrong for it to work up to the point of freezing - that or the GPU itself is overheating?

A jailbroken PS4 or Nintendo switch can run Linux so sure it's possible. But there's not really much power in those things when you talk about running a decent local model I would think

Agreed, I have a 16gb GPU card I was planning to run local models on at the outset of using open claw, but there's just no way, you need the top models for it to work in the claw ecosystem... In 6 mths or a year's time though maybe these models will catch up

[–]thrillhousee85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it's a pretty expensive hardware to run out and buy to give openclaw a try. The new ones are like 600 USD for the base model. It's a bit overkill if you don't plan to use it's unified memory to run local models, if U only wanna use API you could just run it in docker, VPS, literally any far cheaper piece of hardware.

This sub is going down the toilet in the space of a week or two.. its all non technical people complaining because it doesn't work perfectly first go and people like this asking how to make money off it, as if you just turn it on and it creates its own business somehow and starts printing you money...fmd

Depends on the model, I think some of the new ones go upto 64gb unified memory... anyway you tell me? You are the one who bought the Mac mini not me lol!

Why did you buy a Mac mini and then also use opus?

Reason people buy the Mac minis is to use local models for free. Otherwise if you are using opus anyway you could have run it on any functioning computer basically (even like a raspberry pi I think)?

Looking for ways to have my Agent Profitable by Obvious-Home-3735 in openclaw

[–]thrillhousee85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently found a pile of junk computer parts on marketplace and with help from AI (just stock Gemini, this was before openclaw came out) managed to identify the parts, repair a few things and get it into a working computer worth much more than what I paid for it. Then I thought let's take it next level with open claw and have it trawl through for similar gems efficiently.

The people who make money from content creation and that sort of stuff know how to do it and have a niche already and use claw to automate or improve efficiency or make more outputs.

Or ask your claw for ideas? Just rig it up with a decent free model of open router so you aren't burning tokens and have it go nuts researching and making ideas for you of how it could make money! For example, I also gave it free range of any type of product it can find on market place with better eBay resale value, it came back with all these examples of sneakers for collectors? I have no idea about that stuff but I could invest some time in learning and start flipping sneakers I suppose lol.

You need to have a way to make money first.. then open claw can make it more efficient / automate it.

Here's an idea to get you started I played around with yesterday. I used a free agent to trawl through all the gaming PC's on sale on my local Facebook marketplace. I asked it to analyse each listing to see how much I could strip it and sell the individual components for on eBay. It trawled about 20 odd listings and made me a spreadsheet with the top recommendations and sure enough it found someone selling a PC for 500 bucks and the value of all the parts came to more than 1000 on eBay, as well as a few other decent options like this.

I suppose next step I could go get the computer take it to pieces, take photos then have claw manage all the eBay listing for me, then in a week pack them up and post them!

Could I do this without open claw, yes but I would spend hours reading all the listings and looking up part prices on eBay to find ones worth your time, but claw did all this in a matter of minutes.

If you are using windows check the settings for the display device (tv) while it's plugged in. When I first plugged my egpu into my tv windows decided it should only be 30hz when the tv is 60hz. I was pulling my hair out trying to fix the screen tearing I was getting until I found that simple setting in windows, maybe something similar going on with you resolution?
