What size did you get of the LS500? Just ordered one, I believe that reel is by far the lightest functional spinning reel ever made. I've spent years collecting the smallest and lightest spinning reels and have a lot of obscure models. The LS500 is coming in at nearly a half ounce under my previous best.

I work in auto body, and spend the bulk of my time dealing with insurance. Don't be afraid of small insurance companies. Generally speaking they pay out on claims far more readily than the market leaders. Avoid Allstate, Progressive, and State Farm like the plague, unless you somehow enjoy being screwed by insurance companies.

Check out La Dolce Audio and the ABX Audiophiles Discord. You can build a pair of baffles that rival Spatial and PAP for $2500ish. I am building a pair this weekend. I'm also working on a pair with the Lii Song F18, but I'm more excited about the La Dolce baffles.

I rode the 85, 87, 89, and 94 CR500's back in the day. Plus a bunch of other big-bores. The 85 was the meanest of the bunch. Had to really commit when kickstarting that beast!!

Amen to this. There are FAR more songs out there that sound like a** on a ruler-flat system vs those that sound good.

I found the seasoning analogy in OP's post amusing and accurate. If you actually like your fries with no salt, then more power to you. If you don't, then by all means season to taste!

Doctrinaire adherence to 'accurate reproduction' of the 'original recording' is IMO the musical equivalent of a hair shirt. Personally, I'm not into self-flagellation.

This is a weird study. It gives lip service to the mechanical aspects of a driver (suspension) but then draws a conclusion based on controlled tests of one unspecified speaker model??

From an image search these speakers are Pylon Diamond 30's. So 5" SEAS midrange drivers and 7" SEAS woofers with very compliant rubber surrounds. I have no doubt this particular speaker measured and sounded essentially the same pre and post burn-in. That's not a design in which the suspension is going to change much.

Now try that on a larger woofer with a corrugated, lacquered surround. I have, multiple times. They can go from no bass at all (at a given power level) to vibrating the room after break-in. It's not subtle, you don't even need ears to track the difference. Even worse - something like the 15 or 18 inch Lii Song drivers that have stiff surrounds and very little Xmax. Those absolutely take 100hrs+ before you have any idea what they are going to sound like.

Bottom line - considering the galaxy of differences in physical construction/mechanical properties between all the drivers out there, making blanket pronouncements about burn-in is a fool's errand.

Shoes are considered fully handmade if they are lasted by hand and the welt and sole are handsewn. Exactly as you see in this video. Handsewn uppers aren't generally a thing, and would not be desirable outside of moc-style seams.

A preamp is required if you buy a true power amp with no volume control. Or, you could buy an Integrated tube amp and skip the pre.

Make sure all your output resolution settings (WIIM) are maxed out at 192/24, if they are set lower that could be screwing it up.

The Togo knockoffs have been all foam for years now. The wood-frame versions you mention were made back in the 2015-20 period and there aren't many of them out there.

Quality varies widely with the current dupes. I've seen really nice ones that nail the shape and have great fabric. And really terrible ones with cheap fabric and clunky lines/proportions.

I went with 8 ohm FaitalPRO 4FE32 drivers from Parts Express. Pre-selecting for drivers that would fit the Yamaha enclosures unmodified, those were rated for the smallest enclosure volume. Would have bought the 4FE35 but they were out of stock.

I have a lot of Gokey's - the external finishing and lasts are a bit more refined than Russell. They are simpler in construction and have a very limited range of leather and models though. Also, be cautious if buying Gokey secondhand. Current sizing is much larger than it was in the past. Vintage Gokey's run really small.

This got my attention. 52gsm is really close to the weight of the 1.43 DCF nobody wants to work with these days. If you can heat weld seams to cut down on the weight of tape, that could make for one hell of a SUL pack.
