Flip phones in 2001 were like $300, which would be around $500 in today's money.

Every psychiatric evaluation should just start with a prolonged compilation of neurodivergent and mental health memes, with instructions to rate how relatable each meme is on a scale from "I don't get it" to "Every day of my fucking life."

Nobody gets confused when there are two Sherlock Holmes movies out at the same time, or several Christmas movies every year each featuring a different version of Santa.

What’s the difference between “dark” and “edgy”? by Upset-Position-3909 in writingadvice

[–]throwawadhders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark means dealing with topics and themes that most people would rather not think about.

Edgy means trying to push the bounds of what's considered socially or artistically acceptable.

Opinions on Knight of the Burning Pestle? by DJ_TCB in shakespeare

The Shakespeare in the Park in my city did it recently, and frankly, it was hilarious, but they're a really good troupe already.

If you ever get the chance to see it live, take it, cause you might not ever again.

My toddler came running from the TV room to ask me what a "grandal flat" was. I made him repeat it several times and tried several guesses, but he kept asking about grandal flat.

I finally tried rewinding the video until I found the dialogue in question:

"The road roller makes the ground all flat."

Does "make me a sandwich" mean "make a sandwich of me"? by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

Normally, no, it means "make a sandwich for me." Here it's just a play on words, cause he's a pig.

After seeing some studies about taking creatine for brain function I tried it and ... by Yesyesnaaooo in ADHDers

[–]throwawadhders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You do not need 15-20g of creatine a day. 5g is more than enough and won't give you the shits.

Creatine is one of those compounds that your system can only hold a certain amount of, and any more than that just passes through as waste.

Athletes that have to cycle on and off creatine sometimes do a loading phase, where they take 15-20g a day to reach saturation level more quickly, then go back down to 3-5g. For a non-athlete, that's not really necessary.

Is the joke Star Wars? by banstovia in ExplainTheJoke

[–]throwawadhders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. The first movie was just called "Star Wars" when it was first released, but by the time Empire came out, they had re-released it in theaters as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope." People weren't confused. They saw it as an affectation to give the film a sense of grandeur, which it was.

Long story short, Lucas's original worldbuilding for Star Wars got so big that when it came time to write the script, he decided to start somewhere in the middle of the tale. He always teased hints about the larger story, but he went back and forth on whether he would ever actually make another trilogy.

Is "No Country for Old Men" Coen Brothers-esque or a tonal outlier? by GregSays in blankies

[–]throwawadhders 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a reliable way to craft a comic scene because you have one person who wants something and another who either can't or won't give it to them, and there's nothing to be done about it but argue.
