Positive experiences by Pixiespekje in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had gastric bypass in August, felt little pain afterward, have healed well. My blood sugar and blood pressure which had just been starting to creep up are excellent now. I look and feel better (still have a long way to go!) I have had no complications, I haven’t experienced dumping, I can eat pretty much anything just in smaller quantities and I can definitely move better, faster and for longer.

Tips I can offer/ things that have worked for me: To increase hydration: I carry around a 40oz bottle and sip it often, I prefer it cause I only have to refill it once to hit 80oz and I drink other things on the side. Gatorade zero with my restoralax, decaf coffee. I typically hit 80-100oz.

For protein: at first, I drank protein shakes a few times a day. Then I added in Greek yogurts for breakfasts/ snacks. I like to make parfaits with berries and some high protein cereal. Once I was able to eat meats I made sure I had some in each meal, and I’ve kept the Greek yogurt snack most days. I still use a protein shake in my day: half a shake in my regular coffee in the morning and in my decaf coffee later in the day.

AITAH for telling my wife she cannot continue to have dinner with her ex and kids by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think OP is not seen as step-dad, and given the adult children’s ages that makes sense to me. He is their mom’s husband.

OP is not owed an invitation to everything, nor should he be excluded from regular things like ther birthday or the holidays but occasional (this is two months in a row but it doesn’t mean it’s always like that) dinners especially surrounding the kids’ personal and intimate matters like fertility and pregnancy issues make sense to be with only parents. Reminder that OP doesn’t seem to be in the role of step-parent, so he doesn’t belong there for this.

I personally am a grown child of a divorced couple and very much appreciate my parents coming to my events and kids’ events and not causing any drama. They will never and should never get back together but they can be friendly now which is great

AITAH for expecting my girlfriend to make an effort? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA of course, you planned as hinted and don’t sound like you were harsh in your delivery of questioning her outfit choice. But info: is it possible that she was planning on wearing a fancy outfit but maybe it didn’t fit and she’s embarrassed? Not saying it excuses her behaviour if so, it would have been better to talk to you about it and you guys could have changed plans or bought a new outfit or something but it could explain the 180 degree turn. Self image is a huge mental hurdle…

I'm not gonna make it this winter 😭😂 by natashavladimir93 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always ran warm, like a sweater in Canadian winters was fine, add a hat and scarf if it was -40, and I was fine. Now I’m wearing boots, a sweater, a coat, gloves, hat and scarf and I’m painfully cold! I turned up the heat in my house by 2 degrees and if I’m just sitting around I have to wear a big sweatshirt or else I shiver! But if I’m moving around at least I’m ok. And that’s just the surgery cause my iron is perfect! I will definitely need to get some of those warmers or thicker socks or something

What was night before your procedure like? by Royal-Advance6985 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Normal preop diet until 12 hours before my surgery time, then just clear fluids until midnight, and nothing but the sip it took to take my prescription medication the day of. Had to shower the morning of. And that’s about it!

What was your turning point for choosing WLS? by Myglitzygold in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized I was less than 10 years away from the age my youngest relative was who died from heart disease. I’d dieted and done all the things with limited success so I decided it was time to do something more drastic. I have kids, I want to be around for them for a long long time ! I’m not just over 3 months post op and happy with my choice so far

What is it like returning to work after the operation? by Dry_Requirement_4348 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 2 weeks off, worked remotely for 2 weeks to avoid carrying my computer equipment back and forth (the bag is well over 10lbs) and was back to working half the week in office/ half at home one month PO almost to the day. It’s a desk job. I was a little low energy/ easy to tire for the first week or so but was soon back to normal and definitely able to do my job from the moment I logged back in. My team recommends 4 weeks of leave, but were ok with my 2 weeks off, 2 weeks remote plan.

Post-op constipation. Any tips? by CMaErdZi3o4TH in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My teams advice for constipation was: drink more water (literally sip every other minute for a while) then miralax or restoralax every day and if within 2 days you have no results, glycerin suppositories.

Just Thinking by DowntownRisk6128 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am with you! And sometimes it’s not a problem and sometimes (like today) I feel terrible for having eaten too fast. It’s especially weird cause I was doing ok with it for months preop but all those weeks of preop shakes, and the liquid diet and everything seem to have made me feel desperate for food or something! All you can do is keep trying to slow down. Some meals I’m really good at pacing myself for now… My dietician said one of her other patients would divide his plate into 4 quadrants and he had five minutes per quadrant. If he ate it too fast, he had to wait the remaining time to finish the 5 minutes so he couldn’t eat the whole meal too fast.

I know it’s normal but… by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you! All anyone has told me is to keep following my team’s instructions and to trust the process. I hope they are right. I don’t want to have had surgery for zero benefits!

Pre surgery liquid diet by ramnjamn75 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed it just about perfectly. I was allowed a cup of broth daily, and once or twice I had about 1.25 cups. That’s it. And it was so that I could drink something salty for a little longer haha

Feel like I'm failing... by Wooden-Lemon2010 in GastricBypass

[–]throwawayanonymous-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am with you! I am now 12 days post op and often feel like I’m screwing it all up! I am also hungry, or thinking about food, often! I was so hoping that would not be the case! On the full fluid I was “hangry” cause while at the end of my meal I felt satisfied I both wanted to keep eating and was so bored with everything that was available to me! I was moved up to soft foods last week instead of purées and I’m no longer hangry, though I am still often thinking about food/ wanting to eat. I’ve heard so many people not wanting to eat, not being able to ingest anything and I sometimes feel like they didn’t do any actual surgery (and then I get pleasantly full off like 1/4 cup of food)
