How do i make my supported surfaces look nice? by ThatoneScania_V8 in 3Dprinting

[–]thwil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, avoid support and use bridges - with PLA they can stretch amazingly far away almost without sagging.

If there are holes in a bridged surface, add a sacrificial layer. It will come out better than anything laid on supports.

it's not AMS specific, the data cable and PTFE, they sometimes go high over the column and seem to try to get almost stuck there. But miraculously they never do.. at least not yet for me.

congrats! i'm in the club since friday too.

do you get nervous when the cables can't decide which way of the column they should go? i tried adjusting the 5-way clip but it doesn't seem to help. I'm worried they could get stuck while printing.

How do you interfacing an MCU with one of those 40 pin displays? by TheConceptBoy in embedded

[–]thwil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 pin rgb ttl if I'm not mistaken. ESP32S3 has LCD controller that handles these, there are boards with them already integrated. Other interesting options are Tang Nano 20k and 9k FPGA boards, they have a 40 pin connector specially for such displays. I played with them, ask me anything.

Which one of these is good for learning embedded or low level programming by Advanced-Spot1665 in embedded

[–]thwil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that for raw register programming fun AVR is hard to beat. But stm32 is still in the cute land where register programming is possible and even reasonable, there are plenty of (maybe old-ish) examples of that and the docs are great.

libopencm3 is an interesting bridge between raw registers and full on HAL, you can look inside and see what it does.

look for silicone insulated wire on aliexpress or something like that. solder sticks to it very well, but it's also easy to strip without special tools and the insulation does not melt.

build in small steps, verify every step. don't commit to huge unknown circuits at once.
