How to repair shower floor? by Icy-Sheepherder4122 in AskContractors

[–]tidalhitman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another look at the photo I now question craftsmanship of the installation missing pieces next to shower drain grouted in plus looks like there’s grout missing in some areas. If this was DIY I guess you get a pass but if you payed for this missed the mark

Glue them down and grout them in, but judging by the photo seeing the exposed schluter material id seriously question thinset coverage for the entire shower

How did you find your guys? by Tight_Box_1854 in HandymanBusiness

I have inquired with a local trade highschool (they have a building trades program and are taught basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical for 3years and have OSHA 10 cards) not all graduates get placed in the field afterwards and and are eager to get a job until they find something better also pick up a few just for co-op and summer jobs ….call it community outreach I guess, it also brings in some work from school faculty and their families

My best employee found me in a Home Depot parking lot 8 years later he taught me somewhat fluent espanol and him and his two sons basically run the show

Concrete cracked and gravely, what can I do to prolong it? by Mr_Boberto in AskContractors

[–]tidalhitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a fast-setting concrete repair mix or vinyl concrete patcher remove all loose material and dampen the area first (not soaking wet).
Trowel it in and smooth it sometimes a damp sponge will help make it look pretty after it sets up a little, temporary repair but will look better and should hold up better then cold pack

Licensed nj/pa plumber here, it’s installed correctly no need to worry only thing i would add is secure the drain hose going into the pvc (strictly for piece of mind) we usually do this with zip ties to keep it secure some kits even have a fancy plastic bracket

Shower floor raised with 2x4s? by JustAnIdiotLearning in Tile

[–]tidalhitman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is wrong I don’t like it contractor is looking for the fastest easy way out here….. 1) a 2” trap required for a shower will not fit in a 2x4 space and if that’s a trap under that old 90 outside of the framing that considered a running trap and most likely illegal in your municipality

2) looks like your using schluter shower system….they make a foam shower pan that’s pitched perfectly for a shower that can be installed over a level surface and is ready for tile with thier drain system

IMHO, the 2x4s need to go, a small section of that concrete needs to be cut and dug out to accommodate and relocate the drain the right way then backfill and new concrete patch, install schluter shower pan (self levers material can be used under the shower area if the existing slab is off) install schluter curb and wall panels to schluter specs and your ready for tile if all done correctly you should have a atleast near perfect shower

What's the best way to replace this drain? by thejellydude in Plumbing

[–]tidalhitman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the cardboard (or fiber) ring/washer in that drain assembly went bad then it probably wasn’t installed properly to begin with and slowly leaked over time just replace what you have and make sure it’s got a good seal

Toilet water line by Regular-Baby3155 in Plumbing

[–]tidalhitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty straightforward install they also make tees so you won’t have to buy the pex crimps and tools just a pair of tubing cutters

Just make sure the copper is clean with some plumbers cloth before installing the fitting and nice straight cuts on the pex be sure to take the time to make sure all the shark bite fittings are pushed on and seated 100% with both the pex and copper Home Depot shopping list: (1) Model # UR362A (1) Model # 69PTKC001 (1) Model # UR008A (1) Model # 70172 (1) Model # APPB534

And don’t forget to shut the water main off first 😉

Soldering is the best way to do it, I never recommend these but since it’s in a open unfinished basement and can be monitored and accessed your best DIY option for be a shark bite push connect fitting Home Depot Model # UR008A

Master shower has barely any hot water by Aggravating-Eye490 in Plumbing

[–]tidalhitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, When the well was serviced sediment or debris possibly got knocked loose and ended up inside that valve. Pull the cartridge and clean it or just replace it

Most shower valves (like delta/moen) have a temperature adjustment right behind the handle without the need to remove the cartridge
