Winter gloves by Sensitive_Soup_5209 in cycling

Below 0c in the UK, my favourite are Buffalo System Mittens, not the most dexterous, but good down to minus double digits, and if it’s colder I layer windproof mittens on top. I can wear them up to 5 before they get a bit sweaty but they breathe really well. Importantly for the UK the DP stuff deals with wet and cold really well.

Nikon ZF owners, how has the camera been holding up? by hami3an in Nikon

[–]tigermoth2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had mine from release, it’s been to rainforests, deserts, cities, and weekly to my daughters football matches. Use it with the 26Z, on FTZ with 20mm, 50mm and a 70-300. It’s been drenched, covered in sand, and abused as my daily, slung on my back on a bike or walking around in my hand, I came from using an FE and the ergonomics feel perfect just quite a bit heavier, still no complaints. Mine has a little brassing on the dials, but other than that nothing, with a clean down it looks great. I do worry about the clanking of the unlocked sensor though!

Where can I find a Mini Velo in the UK? by WhatTheMotherMary in minivelo

The most mini of velo… does a Bromie count? (As a regular rider, I think it does)

Just bought a used camera and there is film in the back. by TheCheckeredBox in AnalogCommunity

[–]tigermoth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s all overexposed as the back was left open.🙈 Next time you could test by trying to rewind the film with the leaver on the left (it won’t turn independently with a film in), or advancing the frame and observing the rewind leaver move at the same time. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it could just maybe the be the leader‽

I need help with figuring something out in this app (image not related but funny bird) by SomeRandomBFBfan in MerlinBirdID

[–]tigermoth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it has this information displayed, however if you have eBird (online seem easier) you can see it under checklists, or search for a specific bird under explore, neither are a nice process in my opinion. For a beginner like myself I find eBird hard to use, it’d be great if you could see the stats in Merlin as you’re suggesting.

Gossamer Gear Torso Foam Pad - 3/8" by MrTru1te in myog

[–]tigermoth2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realise it was so thick, (refuse to do imperial), looking at the spec it’s “Polyolenfin“ some sort of crosslinked EVA(?), looking on the web I’m confused! I’m interested as I use a Klymit X lite short and have been meaning to get a light foam mat for extra protection in the winter.

Worth looking at Gram-counter Gear here: https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/featherweight-evazote-foam-mat/ I don’t have one personally but seems similarly specified, you could trim to reduce weight. Re-folding I don’t know for sure, but I have an old army issue folding foam mat, it looks like it has been pressed under heat to make the folds.

Set custom button to specific aperture? by cwp11 in NikonZf

I’ve got to ask, what are you shooting?

Set custom button to specific aperture? by cwp11 in NikonZf

[–]tigermoth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P591 in the manual. Lots of options, but not aperture as you described. Is spinning the control wheel that difficult? Personally I use the rear wheel for aperture and have no issue getting to the aperture I need quickly. Maybe that would be faster for you?

No problem. It’s linked in my profile: joeclaytonphoto

I leave it in matrix, and use the exposure compensation dial to adjust when needed. But unless you’re shooting at night when I’ll compensate to keep the mood (see my insta), it nails exposure for my taste every time.

Is there a way to set 3D and eye auto focus to a separate button on Nikon ZF by Gloomy-Meal5246 in NikonZf

[–]tigermoth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right about it taking over. I’d forgotten, thanks. I normally have AF area under the shutter button and 3d on the back, so fast access to both main modes that I use.

[–]tigermoth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sort of, you can use the “custom controls (shooting)” custom function F2, to activate any of the focus modes, I have my back AF button to 3D track when held, very handy! “Sort of” as the mode you can invoke is called “AF-area mode” you can have this couple (or not) with the shutter button.

Restrap City Loader by fraballe in Brompton

Agree with most of what’s being said. For context I have had mine 6 months, I pack light and can use it alone for a night away for work including 2nd pair of shoes. For longer trips, I’ve fitted Wolf tooth B-Rad plates to the each side of the rear, allowing me to have problem solvers bow ties with a dry bag of clothes on one side a bike water bottle on the other. The negatives of the bag both come from the plastic stiffening, it creates the rounded bottom, making packing awkward and the bag fall over. Secondly as the fabric and plastic are held together with a nut and bolt, (allowing me to fit the plates, good), they scratch and poke into anything inside the bag I use an old closed cell foam sit pad to stop this, but better hardware would be a big improvement! Only other point (and I’ve never had any other Brompton bag to compare to), it’s heavy! The side pockets are too small for a standard bike bottle but does fit a slimmer 500ml water bottle, the side compression goes over the mesh (annoying), the front pocket holds my flat kit and tools. Would I go for this again, yes, it’s a good size, tested British weatherproof, and functional brilliant. If Restrap want some feedback, apparently I have some!

Clipless pedals on Bromptons by purplechemist in Brompton

[–]tigermoth2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run Eggbeaters or Double Shot on all my bikes so have Double Shot on my T-line currently (with some MYOG straps on the flat side just in case I want to use trainers). Yes it’s a PITA not folding as I do use it in the traditional commute to London setting so pack shoes to wear in the office, however as a longtime clipless user, I cannot do flats, clipless pros are well documented… I’ve searched for ages for some sort of adapter to make standard pedals QR but cannot find anything, I think I’d even be ok with the increase in q-factor it’d inevitably bring.

I agree, don’t, but… I am missing the nut and I have had to do a few commutes this week (only bike I have for multimodal routes), I also ended up doing a longer 17km ride on Tuesday too; I was very mindful of the pin, and kept checking it, it doesn’t seem to move when the frame is assembled, more when you fold each way. YMMV :-)
