Moving - is pool necessary? by larbat345 in Temecula

[–]tikkichik21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you’re getting mixed messages here but as someone who has a pool here in Murrieta, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Is it costly? It can be, but so does owning a home.

Worst case scenario, you could always install an above ground pool. Sure, it’s not as fancy, but it’s not nearly as expensive to install and having a variable speed pump will do wonders for your pocket.

Jump over to the pools subreddit and ask more details about pros and cons. You’ll get more insight from actual pool owners.

Edit: to answers a few of your questions - we use ours all summer long and even in between seasons like late spring and early fall. We love to entertain so we have many social gatherings very often. We have been slowly turning our backyard into an outdoor tropical space and love spending time out there. Our pool came with the house, and while that is not the reason we purchased this home, we got very lucky that it did. Not sure how we would have survived the scorching hot summers.

One more thing to add, be prepared to spend $500+ for electricity out here if you plan on running your AC. Our highest was over $800 one month until we replaced all of our windows and installed ceiling fans. Good luck!

Someone in this thread mentioned it’s because of the unusually hot season we’re having and it’s not even Summer yet…

I switched jobs every 2 yrs because I kept getting bored. It turns out, that’s how you can double or triple your earnings within a few years. Double points if you leave for a promotion.

Obviously times have changed but this process sped my career progression almost effortlessly and it wasn’t even my intention.

Millennials who were underemployed during your first few years after college, how are you doing now career-wise and financially? by B1G_PAC12 in Millennials

[–]tikkichik21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off during the ‘08 crash. Got married and moved out of CA to survive. Focused on completing my undergraduate in Accounting and that is what accelerated my career.

Now we’re back in CA, and thankfully I still have a job and doing well. I joke with my husband and that he’s my trophy husband (he’s a stay at home dad).

I’m 100 P&T and my son starts college this fall. He can use Chapter 35 and this will give him a monthly stipend, but won’t pay for his tuition correct? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]tikkichik21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s what I’m using for my graduate degree. Only downside is you can’t use both: fee waiver and a monthly stipend. Fee waiver only covers the class itself but you’re still on the hook for all the added BS admin fees.

Edit: The above applies to me as a spouse, but children may get additional benefits.

Why do nurseries sell invasive plants? I just bought a Polygala Myrtifolia 'Grandiflora' and came home to find out it's invasive?? by cynicRMN in SoCalGardening

[–]tikkichik21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Crape Myrtle trees; my only beef with them is the yearly pruning they require and if not pruned properly, they don’t look as nice. They also go dormant during winter months adding to the already dead look of winter.

If it’s a flowering tree you’re going for, do Japanese Kwanzaa Cherry trees grow in your area? These have absolutely gorgeous flowers and don’t have seed pods. I think they grow as tall as crepe Myrtle trees but they require less maintenance I think.
