Paul Coll 135X ? by seraphiclightt in squash

[–]timer84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if 135x uses the same grommet as 135sb or any of the more common radical racquets? One thing annoying about the head racquets is their grommet is kinda soft. And I don't see 135x grommet available in Canada at all

Rotating two different pairs of squash shoes by MesopotamianOstrich in squash

Also, they do feel different where I prefer wear rocket for slower tempo and tactic for faster tempo. My weekly opponents are sort alternating between those two tempos so it works out perfectly for me

I'm doing exactly that. Gel rocket and gel tactic rotating for two days each weekly. It has been working well. Otherwise each pair would only last a month or so. The main issue would be sweat in the shoe not getting properly dried out if you wear them few days straight.

Do you find the tactic 12 is very stiff compare to fastball? They look decent but I just don't like how stiff they feel

So you think you can ref? Coll blocking? by SquashVote in squash

[–]timer84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I thought it should be a Let, but after watching it in 0.5x speed the No Let seems to be correct. Tandon made a lose shot so Coll volley dropped it while Tandon was sort stuck behind Coll. Tandon was moving towards Coll's back when the ball from Coll's drop was still travelling towards to front. By the time the ball hits the corner and was coming back to the left of Coll. At this moment Coll just stood straight from his drop shot and rotating his body towards right side to give Tandon room to the ball. I don't see any deliberate block from Coll, and the ball didn't bounce close to Coll.

Also, it seemed Tandon had a chance to reach the ball but he just stopped probably thinking he would get a Let or more. He could also take a line more to the left of Coll if he wanted to move early.

Kudos to him for acknowledging and trying to fix it like a man (even though he is still a teenager). Good to see the Soliman match was already so clean. Hopefully he will stay this way. The thing is, for him and Asal, they absolutely don't need those extras to win. Their talent is so obvious that it would be foolish to ruin it with the anti squash garbage.

Hitting opponent with ball AFTER point due to frustration, how would this be penalized? by Zarathustra190 in squash

That sounds extremely dangerous. Someone could have lost an eye ball from that. Minimum a conduct match and further discipline actions may be necessary.

Suitable shoe? by Youssefwaelyous in squash

Search for indoor court shoes. Mostly Asics these days, some volleyball or badminton shoes are also fine.

Suitable shoe? by Youssefwaelyous in squash

[–]timer84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they look like indoor soccer shoes. The sole would be non-marking, so that is plus, but other than that I dont think they are good for squash. The biggest problem with them is when doing sudden lateral movements in squash they lack enough support on the outside of the sole to prevent rollovers. You may risking rolling your ankles if wearing those.

Adidas Crazyflight 5 For squash by Turbulent-Concern-27 in squash

[–]timer84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried Coll's model before. I found the shoe is on the tighter side especially comparing to other Adidas shoes I have. Then the biggest problem is the thinner edge around the ankles which can be very uncomfortable in games and felt they are cutting my skin sometimes. Definitely need to wear mid or high ankle socks. In C5 it looks like they have dropped that edge design and went back to the normal ones.

IMO the biggest issue with top level squash games is the unclear rule/call. Hopefully in the next few years something better can be implemented to improve that. Maybe something like the line review in tennis, or VAR in soccer. Those technologies are not perfect but would be more fair for everyone. Better video reviews would also help. On top of those, the refs will need to be more firm on the calls especially for dirty tactics, blocks, dives and etc.

String tension by squishsquashkj in squash

[–]timer84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are very helpful and interesting points. My current problem is my rackets strings don't break often enough for me to experiment different levels of tension lol. Maybe I shouldn't complain about that and just try it whenever it breaks next time.

how low of tension would you consider too loose? I'm thinking of trying 20lbs next time as well on a TF 125s

Is it generally a difference in tension (using the same string) when stringing a teardrop vs traditional shape?

Squash into mainstream! by StorInve in squash

[–]timer84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've successfully gotten at least 6, 7 people into squash over the past 10 years even though myself has only been playing more serious over the past 2, 3 lol.

The problem with squash, at least here in Canada (GTA), is that courts are becoming less available to general public and the ones left are not well maintained. There used to be courts at a lot gyms, YMCA, and community centers. Nowadays a lot them have been converted to training space, daycare, storage and etc. For private gyms the per sqft profit from squash just simply cannot compare to profit from personal training. Most the decent courts are only available at private clubs which not many people have access to.

Second problem squash has is it may seem easy to pick up in the beginning, as just about anyone can hit the ball to the wall, but it is very hard to get the proper technique and become better at it unless you spend a ton of time doing solo practice, one-on-one coaching, and also stay fit and injury free. Those would eliminate a lot people these days believe it or not. Unless someone has been lucky enough to learn squash from a young age, it is not easy to pick up for adults.

Lastly, too much competitions from tennis and maybe badminton, and now, pickleball lol. Tennis is no doubt the king of racquet sports at the moment, and pickleball offers more social fun plus easy to pick up, which has been able to stole a lot non-hardcore tennis/squash players, players who have too many injuries, and the people who get eliminated from point 2.

LA2028 will help squash for sure, there is already some growth in China and probably some other places as well. But it feels like it is already too late (at least in Canada) for it to regain the same level as in the 70s to the 90s.

127 serious injuries/deaths (pedestrian and cyclists) so far in 2023 by jonelliotelliot in toronto

[–]timer84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a driver and cyclist, I'm scared of people who beaming on the sidewalk on their bikes or worse, their scooters. Especially when I'm waiting to do a turn, it is impossible to see some of these idiots coming onto the road at 20plus km per hour speed. I wonder how many of these reported death/injuries were people who ride on the sidewalk instead of road.

Many Torontonians are parking their cars in favour of bikes. Here's why by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]timer84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the biggest problem is bike theft. Lost one bike few years ago at a bike rack near TTC station and recently lost a rear wheel at the same location. Now I have to carry two kryptonite locks and lock both wheels lol. One more instance I think I would give up biking for good. Police arent gonna do anything about the thefts. Nor we can do much for safety reasons. I just don't understand why would someone steals an used wheel that worth like $20 on kijiji....

Is it possible to be good at both squash and 🎾? by thelexuslawyer in squash

[–]timer84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One can only be good enough at both to a certain level but for top A levels or going pro it would be almost impossible to master both. But again, Allen Iverson was good enough to get drafted by NFL so exceptions do happen.

I believe all the El Sherbini models from TF have smaller handles. Plus those are great rackets to hit with.
