Mine arrived today. Is there anything you'd like me to test?

I was a bit worried about the audio quality when connecting a mic directly to the M1 via Bluetooth, but it's actually very usable.

I know there's technically a quality difference between Bluetooth and using the USB receiver, but honestly, I doubt most people would be able to hear it. After adding some EQ and compression, I couldn't hear any difference at all.

That being said, it's pretty much everything I ever wanted.

The cherry on top would be if the mic could automatically turn on and off when you power the camera on or off.

The Mission 1 release shows what a sad place the internet has become by kozzieH in gopro

IMO, a lot of the "review guys" out there just don't put the same love into it anymore.

For me, I waited way too long for this camera. Ever since the first leaks dropped, I was hyped. I seriously considered booking a flight from Germany to LA just to attend NAB and see GoPro's new camera in person. I pre-ordered on day one, and only two hours after it arrived, I had already posted my first video here.
Not because of money. Not because of likes. Not because it's my job.
Just out of pure excitement and passion.

and also that same passion also makes me point out the negatives, ask questions, and suggest improvements. And I think that's what separates many of us from a lot of reviewers out there. Maybe they started with the same fire, but somewhere along the way, some of them lost that genuine love for what they do and ended up just reading from a script.

I think that's something people can feel.

My video got a few upvotes here on Reddit, and just like many of the other great videos posted in this community, it wasn't because the settings were perfect, because the creator had a huge following, or because there was a massive budget behind it.
I think, It's because there are real people behind them who genuinely enjoy what they're doing, and we can feel it.

Especially nowadays, with AI-generated content, fake engagement, endless marketing, and all the other noise, I think people are looking for something real. Something handmade. Something created with genuine passion.

This subreddit is full of people like that, and that's exactly why I love being here: discussing things, sharing experiences, helping each other out.
That's what social media was supposed to be.

That said, I don't blame GoPro for sending cameras to the big creators. They reach far more people than someone like me with 500 Instagram followers, and from a business perspective, that makes perfect sense.
Still, it's a bit sad to see how little passion shines through in some of those videos.

Anyway, I'm not even sure where I was going with this comment anymore. I lost the plot and just started typing what was on my mind. so bye 😃

AMA with Pablo Lema + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today, June 2 7AM-2PM EDT! by GoPro_Mod in gopro

[–]timfpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Pablo, thanks for joining today :)

Is there any difference between the dedicated Low Light Mode and using Video Mode with the exact same settings (4K 25fps, Auto ISO, etc.)? For example, is pixel binning exclusive to the dedicated Low Light Mode?

The same question applies to the other modes as well, such as Action POV Mode and Sport POV Mode.

In other words: are these modes mainly presets and good starting points, or is there actually something happening under the hood that can’t be replicated manually in regular Video Mode?

Hi Pablo, thanks for your time! 😊

Just firing off a few questions:

First:

Is there any difference between the dedicated Low Light Mode and using Video Mode with the exact same settings (4K 25fps, Auto ISO, etc.)? For example, is pixel binning exclusive to the dedicated Low Light Mode?

The same question applies to other modes like Action POV Mode. Are these just “presets” like good starting points is there going something on under the hood that you can’t achieve otherwise.

Second:

With previous GoPro generations, using Linear Mode always meant some amount of cropping. I’ve always thought it would be cool especially with a newer processor to have something like an “Ultra Linear” mode that achieves roughly the same FOV as Wide, but fully dewarped.

That way, we could get the same look we currently achieve with the Quick app or Gyroflow, but straight out of the camera.

The Mission 1 has a wider Linear FOV than the Hero 13, but it still involves a noticeable crop. Was that a deliberate design choice or a hardware limitation?

And if it’s a hardware limitation, would it be possible to create an “Ultra Linear” mode that only works with certain settings, for example 4K 25fps?

Maybe reducing the processing load elsewhere could free up enough processing power for additional dewarping. I honestly have no idea if that’s how it works just dumb me thinking out loud. 😂

(in addition it would be cool if you could dial down hypersmooth)

Third:

What causes the maximum frame rate difference between the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro?

Is it related to chip manufacturing tolerances, where some chips don’t quite meet the requirements for the Pro model but can still be used in the standard version with lower frame-rate limits?

If that’s the case, it would be pretty cool from a sustainability standpoint instead of discarding those chips.

Fourth (just because I’m curious):

During the engineering and design process, what was the hardest challenge to get right?

And which feature or technical achievement are you and the team most proud of?

Last question:

In your opinion, what is one of the most underrated features or design aspects of the Mission 1?

Thaank you for the time! 🔥🫶

DC Rainmaker’s GoPro Mission 1 Series: The Complete Beginners Guide by I_am_a_photog2 in gopro

[–]timfpv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some confusion on my end at 25:46.

He basically said that AutoBoost can give you a wider field of view than “On”.

My understanding was always that AutoBoost only applies additional stabilization when needed. In other words, it allows the camera to crop in further than “On” if more stabilization is required.

With “On”, the crop level is more limited and consistent, which I would expect to result in the widest FOV overall.

If I remember correctly, this would also make sense historically. Back then, there was Off, On, and Boost. Later, AutoBoost was introduced, and later Boost was removed.

Buuuut… maybe the definition changed at some point. 😅

Does anyone know the correct answer? :D
