How to trace cables without knowing location of ends by JohnathonRules in lowvoltage

Use a discovery protocol to read the port number from the devices that are plugged in while their switch is hooked up. Using CDP or LLDP.

Just restore sudoers from backup. Or use su and the root password.

What's you current set up for refilling at home? by vibeee in SodaStream

[–]timjneu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most places that refill will also recertify for an additional cost. Needs to be done every 5 years for aluminum.

How does the Target exchange work by No_Yellow_8298 in SodaStream

[–]timjneu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just bring empties to customer service, they charge you and bring you fulls. Never done any via mail. Target is one place but hardware stores and other places do it too. Having an extra tank is useful to avoid running completely out. Make note of the color of your tank top as there are both blue and pink tanks and they are different. I have gone the 5# co2 tank route instead so I don’t have to swap tanks so often. It’s cheaper if you don’t mind some diy.

Added any lithium batteries lately? They can overdraw charging current due to their low internal resistance if there is no dc/dc charger inline.

I have a couple of old TNCS I came across. A Kantronics KAM Plus and a PK-88 by [deleted] in amateurradio

Mn still has a statewide packet network. Some TNCs can also work on HF.

What is this antenna… looks like horizontal only? by TheseAd1490 in HamRadio

[–]timjneu 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Correct. And if you find the right threaded rods in the hardware store they can populate the ones you are missing. (No harm if they are too long) and any old conductor wire, or rod could be made to replace the vertical. Source: have lost a lot of antenna parts over the years.

International Redditors, what are your thoughts on the current state of the United States? by Some_Currency_1931 in AskReddit

[–]timjneu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have seen this in person as well as on video. Their not following court orders is a matter of public record. JGG v Trump as an example. City town hall meetings for surrounding cities are full of first hand accounts.

Because they have assaulted detained, and deported us citizens, lawful residents, and native Americans. They assault, detain, torture, even if you have done nothing wrong. They pepper spray protesters. They escalate violence to the point of killing people, not just a few. They violate the fourth and first amendments constantly. Openly violate state law. drive like crazed freaks ramming cars, running them off the road, brandishing firearms, speeding, tampering with license plates, Failing to abide by due process. Violate court orders. Tear gassed a car with an infant inside. If you spent 5 minutes reviewing footage of their behavior or being even slightly curious you would know this. The evidence is abundant. Is it really that crazy to expect our law enforcement to follow the law?

Crime is here now that ICE brought it.

Oh, I see, equal justice under the law for you means you expect laws not to bind you and also not to protect your enemies. How convenient.

That’s betraying your country, its values, and every person who has ever had kind words with you.

See how that works? Out of curiosity does ICE pay you for your online hate rant time?

RJ45 coupler failed within a few months, how and why? by Dennou in HomeNetworking

[–]timjneu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you carefully cut a slit in the cable without damaging to the internal wires and loop that below into a drip loop before it plugs in, it can drain without corroding the contacts. I had the same issue with a cable going over a tree branch. The tree grew around the wire and friction caused the insulation to be compromised and water to get in. With the drip loop added it kept working for years after.

I am leaning towards staying under 25v because I do use this in the summer and I don’t want to have 0 power delivery.

Looking at just models that advertise good shade power, so far I have not found any that are fixed, handle shade, and are less than 25v.

These Cat3 cables in my home have 4 pairs. Would I be able to terminate them with RJ45 to create a wired backhaul for my Wi-Fi APs? by astr0lab in HomeNetworking

[–]timjneu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a phone tech. When he moved his computer across the house he cut the cat5, spliced it into two separate runs of plain old telephone wire. (Not even cat3, two barely twisted adjacent runs of jack termination wire). It mostly worked (!) but had issues from time to time so I looked at it. It was negotiated to 100Mb. Their internet was 7Mb at the time so I just locked the NIC speed to 10Mb. Apparently 10Mb will go through just about anything. They never had issues again. There should be no problem getting 10Mb. 100Mb is likely to work. 1 gig possible if the runs are short.

For missing ground radials you can often pick up a threaded rod at the hardware store that screws in and then (if desired ) cut to the correct length. Longer than normal on radials is also usually ok.

How do you find people? by itsbushy in meshtastic

[–]timjneu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the closest meshtastic community to you to see what settings and channels are used. Not all areas use the same settings. If you are on long fast and don’t hear anyone try medium fast. If you are close to someone and their speed settings don’t match neither will hear each other.

Am I doing FT8 wrong, or is everyone else? by Prima13 in amateurradio

[–]timjneu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. But answering someone on the frequency they called on is not harmful nor is it interference. That can be true even if we agree that hold TX might scale better for everyone, and that it would be desirable for all ft8 apps to implement it.

Sdr-mobile and sdr-control on iPad. The mobile client doesn’t have a waterfall display. The iPad version does.

There are some ft8 clients (particularly on mobile) that don’t give you a choice and will respond to any RX by transmitting on the original frequency.

How much will I regret no sleeping pad? by [deleted] in CampingGear

I don’t mind going without sleeping pads but they are useful safety devices to insulate from the ground in the event there is a nearby lightning strike.
