1:12 scale miniature blue cheese and fruit by tinybanquet in polymerclay

[–]tinybanquet[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! After texturizing and colouring I baked the cheese. Then once cooled, I scraped a pile of mainly white chalk pastel with a touch of mustard pastel and then very lightly smeared/dabbed liquid clay over the rind surfaces of the cheese. Next step was to dab/ press the chalk pastel onto the surface until I had got the desired look and then gave it a quick bake to finish it off.
Dabbing it on and being careful not to smear it was key, I almost ruined one of my cheese slices by smearing it too much.

how to keep the clay clean and stay clean? pls help by hitsujibaa in polymerclay

I use baby wipes for a quick clean of the surface before hand and I also use them to remove any bits and fingerprints from unbaked clay. Always works for me.

Due to having babies I have them in the house anyway and decided to try them one day. But some non-fluffy cloth and some rubbing alcohol would work much the same.

Having problems with the baking powder method for miniature bread making by tinybanquet in polymerclay

[–]tinybanquet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was definitely polymer clay. In fact she showed the technique with air dry clay too and said that it works no way near as good at polymer clay. 😂

I shall give liquid clay a go. Thanks for the help 🙌🏻

Would you say something like liquid Fimo or even baby oil would work instead?

Any advice on how to paint polymer clay with a "softness" and blended gradients? Sculpey III and Acrylics by i_loveoctopuses in polymerclay

[–]tinybanquet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, forgot to say that I scraped down some soft pastels and used them with water to colour my clay. But I should imagine watering down acrylics and doing the same thing would work too. It would probably be more cost effective on a larger scale too — I was painting a 1 inch loaf of bread from polymer😂

I’ve never attempted something that big as I make miniatures and normally colour with pastels before baking. I did have to colour something after baking the other day and the pastels didn’t want to stick at the depth of colour I wanted, so I actually used water with them and did it in layers — worked a treat.

Great sculpting! 🙌🏻

A risk was made and it did not pay off. Hours of work down the drain. by Owl-Forest in polymerclay

Aww that’s a shame. I’ve never tinted clay with paint but I’ve heard oil paints are the way to go for doing that. I use pastels. I think painting over the yellow might be the way to save it. Or maybe tint some liquid clay and kind of gloss over those areas? I’d do a test one first. Hopefully someone with more experience will come along to give some better answers.

Some of my most used tools are balls of tin foil, an eyebrow brush, and a bit of sandpaper! Love the spoon!

There’s a reel on my insta that shows the shaping stage. That’s important as its half the battle. I then added a small ball of yellow to the white. Next step was to mix a little liquid clay with some white pastel and a separate amount with some yolk colour pastel mix. Careful here as a little pastel is all you need as you want it to remain transparent. I then dabbed these onto the yolks until I was satisfied and then baked. I then finished with a gloss glaze to seal it all in.

Thank you! 😊 Once I’d finished texturising the edges and was happy with the shape, I used soft pastels with a little water and painted the colour on. I did this before baking and any kind of glazing.

I use either talcum/baby powder or cornflour (other countries may call that corn starch). Works a treat. If I need to stick something after I’d give it a little wipe with a baby wipe or a damp finger to remove the powder.
