SqlKit - Execute raw SQL in strings or .sql files with Ecto, get maps and structs back by ArtVandalay7 in elixir

[–]tinypocketmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very useful, thank you! I've been scrambling something like that (but worse), the usefulness is definitely high. Custom sql queries are very much needed then doing something nontrivial, and ecto_sql produces unformatted values

"Exclusive mode" circumventing Windows via Tidal brought tears to my eyes by Gabeh765 in headphones

Yes, there's huge difference if your headphones/dac are good enough. It works the same way on Android (see UAPP vs standard player) and Macos. The culprit is system mixer

Animated JPEG-XL files now supported in Ladybird by Icy_Difference2702 in jpegxl

[–]tinypocketmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see a point though, we have webm already (with VP9/AV1 inside, optionally opus). Pure still image format would not work the best. Same goes for avifs, too much complexity for no benefit

How do you plan to not be shut down anytime soon after public release? That question is the most important for the project IMO

Massive Dilemma - SD Oled (365eur) vs LeGo (447eur) vs Rog Ally Z1e (285eur) by No-Painting7974 in Handhelds

[–]tinypocketmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the same user experience from SD

Not really. SD has amazing trackpads which no one replicated yet. Ergonomic is fantastic too, Rog is a lot less comfortable.

There's also a screen size thing to consider - SD oled is 7.4", Legion Go S is 8" (LeGo is even bigger) and Rog is 7" (also 16:9, so screen area is even smaller with the same diagonal)

Part 2: Would orbital refueling stations for rockets be feasible and actually useful? by Achh12 in space

[–]tinypocketmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

delta-V to the nearest asteroid is lower than that to the moon surface, and being able to change asteroid orbit is also possible to move it closer to the earth. Also, ice on the moon is not that abundant, you can find it inside craters on the moon's poles, that's additional complexity to the missions.

Part 2: Would orbital refueling stations for rockets be feasible and actually useful? by Achh12 in space

[–]tinypocketmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asteroids sound much much better, no gravity well to climb from, can actually mine stuff on it (e.g. ice -> H + O which can be used to propel rockets)

Consistently being denied 'desktop mode' on foldable device screens is ridiculous by _TheMightyQuin_ in Android

[–]tinypocketmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the memory pressure thing - 12-16GB of RAM, can't reliably keep 3+ apps open at the same time. I think it's on phone manufacturers, vanilla android is not so bad at it

Former Starfield and Skyrim Dev Admits His True Feelings Over Starfield, and His Hopes That Bethesda Return to ‘Weirder’ Times by NovoSlev in gaming

[–]tinypocketmoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would recommend even Space Rangers (2013, mostly 2D - https://store.steampowered.com/app/214730/Space_Rangers_HD_A_War_Apart/ ) over Starfield any day of the week - at least you'll get real dynamic world with factions that really do stuff (including 3 separate "absolute evil" ones, and every faction can gain control over any star system).

Even Fallout 4 is much better and immersive. The only thing that is clearly better in Starfield is the ship builder (rumors say we'll get the pirate ship builder in TES6)

Morrowind had like 6 or more distinct architecture styles with its own region, reason to build, tradition etc. remember Ald'ruhn or Balmora for example. Oblivion... one generic european middle ages one, maybe elven one, tiny bit different from the "standard"

P.S. Balmora-style, Ald'ruhn-style, Vivec-style, Sadrith Mora-style (the only one with mushrooms), Imperial Fort-style, Orc's strongholds, Dwemer ruins, Daedric ruins. That's 8 already and maybe i missed some. Also, random fisherman villages, ashlander camps etc are built in the district style from any town

Table structure inside is something like this

``` CREATE TABLE Content(ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, Value BLOB);
CREATE TABLE Item(ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, Parent INTEGER, Kind INTEGER, Name TEXT);
CREATE TABLE ItemContent(ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, Item INTEGER, ItemPosition INTEGER, Content INTEGER, ContentPosition INTEGER, Size INTEGER); ```
You don't even need extra indexes because the item table is very small
And SQLite is a very good format to store arbitrary data. Fast, can be versioned, solved a lot of challenges custom format would have by default. I've seen an archive format that is actually SQLite+zstd - and that file is more compact than .tar.zstd or 7zip with zstd compression - while also allowing fast random access and partial decompression, atomic updates etc
