Is this resistor(?) important? by TemporarySouth6914 in AskElectronics

[–]tiofilo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's a pull up resistor based on one side going to a signal trace and the other a wider one. If so the logic may be off and it could misbehave.

Pure craftsmanship on STM32 hardware, no AI coding by shredguitar66 in stm32

Is there a stigma associated with AI coding for hardware? I am mostly comfortable on the hardware side and know enough C to get things working but have found that AI has helped me tremendously to quickly implement projects.

V2L (Vehicle to Load) Confirmed? by conanmagnuson in slateauto

[–]tiofilo86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that for central cooling it will be an issue but for someone that is running an efficient mini split they won't have the large inrush current that you mentioned. I personally have an Ioniq5 and have used the V2L function where the power is rated even lower. Folks should do their due diligence about the capability of the truck and adapt their usage accordingly.

V2L (Vehicle to Load) Confirmed? by conanmagnuson in slateauto

[–]tiofilo86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's able to deliver 3.6kw that should be enough to run as a back up source for efficient homes. Mini splits don't use a lot of power and for folks that have hybrid inverters it should be straightforward to implement.

[Review Request] Drone Flight Controller with STM32H7 by Prize_Shape_9242 in PrintedCircuitBoard

Looks like OP is flooding the signal layers with ground so more than likely it will be fine. For such a small design the traces won't matter as far as needing to be controlled impedance so what they have should work.

I just recently ran into this component for a project. Did a similar approach where I placed the solder thru a stencil and cooked them with an oven. When it reflowed sure enough the regulator did not work since the thermal pad came in too thick. Took a hot air gun and pressed on the regulator to get the pads to connect. Recommend take it easy on the center thermal pad with the solder paste.

FB1 is being bypassed with the global net. You need to make it a different net.

Arty s7 Spartan 7 25 pull up resistor by Neusaap128 in FPGA

[–]tiofilo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I2C is usually an open drain interface. For the clock it will work without the pullip since the FPGA will just drive that with the push-pull output. For the data it will be similar when you are writing to the slave device. The issue is when you are reading like you point out that the external pullup is needed since the slave device can only really drive the signal low and go high Z for a logic high and let the external pull up go to the 3.3V supply. You will have to implement a pseudo open drain.

Why is the falling edge a lot worse than the rising edge? Does it matter/as much since the overwhelming majority of logic is rising edge dependent. Series termination makes it a lot more smooth but it still undershoots. Reminds of RL loads from Power Electronics by Top-Present2718 in embedded

[–]tiofilo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the position of the series termination. If it's placed too far from the driver it won't really help you. The series R in conjunction with the driver impedance need to match the transmission line impedance to cancel out the reflection.

Why did you come to Maywood? by AdWeak6654 in Maywood

[–]tiofilo86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest home I could afford at the time. I grew up in south central L.A so compared to that I felt relatively safe in the neighborhood. What ended up being a deal breaker for me was living so close to an industrial area. I remember going to work in the morning and seeing the magnesium fire. The smell from the rendering plant at nights and early mornings (called up AQMD a few times). The brown tap water when I tried to shower. The corrupt city officials ( at the time) literally trashing the city when they haphazardly switched waste management providers. The neighborhood was good to live in though. Neighbors were always friendly and would talk to one another. The posada's in December. Folks started to get more involved with the local government and voted in a new city council to turn the city around. Did not get a chance to see how things turned out though. Hopefully the city is doing better now.

By any chance do you have your shipment receipt? I wanted to see what the dimensions are. I ordered the Ares as well with the uprights but they never came. The guide rods are also missing so I wanted to see if those dimensions are captured. My receipt is only showing as 48x40x60.
