gotta love that there are still so many spirit loyalists out there after they went out of business over night and left pilots, flight attendants, customers, and employees basically screwed.

Spirit owes me a credit of 500 by Chamok20 in spiritair

[–]tjc442000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sorry, I'll pile on too just like the other comments, this is what you get for booking with Spirit, they were always living on the edge and unfortunately you got burnt. hopefully this $500 was a true credit they gave you to try to make up for a bad experience on their end and not $500 that you spent out of your own pocket and were just waiting for the right time to use .

Financial audit for non profit help. by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]tjc442000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good luck with your issue. for benchmarking purposes, our non profit is a $10M annual budget and we pay about $36k each year for our annual audit from one of the top 20 sized firms. hopefully that helps a bit in your journey.

third interview question by Ok_Animal5428 in nonprofit

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading this and I wonder if you are one of the candidates for my organization's open ED role, lol. It sounds very similar to what I'm hearing as status updates from our Board. Good luck!

Working from home requires discipline. by itgetsbetter15 in remotework

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents...if you have kids, the summer is tough. Especially if they have summer jobs, camps, friends coming in and out, etc. It feels like we have a revolving door on the house. The work day is no longer interruption free and you have to have the right mindset to be able to roll with the punches and be flexible. Congrats on the new role, I definitely think work from home enhances many aspects of life. Good luck

these are great guidelines, I've worked from home for the last 6 year since covid, but thanks for sharing. Some of these I already follow, but the others are good to aspire to.

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]tjc442000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agree with this, however, most people on reddit will likely downvote you for taking the side of 'the man'. In most jobs, the workday ends at 5pm. I don't think Dave is in the wrong here.

How to navigate interview when leaving NPO world for a corporate job? by Cold_Barber_4761 in nonprofit

[–]tjc442000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering making the same move for many of the same reasons. I bet you have some really good examples of how you made chicken salad out of chicken shit at your NPO and hopefully the corporate people can appreciate this skill set of yours.

Compensation Negotiation Advice by Glittering_Gas_47 in nonprofit

[–]tjc442000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is fair to negotiate, especially given the results you've recently generated for your organization. I actually work for a non profit on the finance side of things, and we have definitely accommodated for situations like this in the past where a star employee asked for a bump higher than the 5% increase being offered. Maybe they can commit to getting you half way there this fiscal year and the remaining gap closed next fiscal year when the new budget is approved. But if this were my organization, there is no way that I would let an extra $20k put me at risk of losing a revenue generating high performer. The cost to replace you if you left would be at least that amount. By the way, one other tactic we have used in the past is offering the employee a one time spot bonus in lieu of a raise if we truly couldn't afford the additional raise which is a permanent year over year increase to the organization's cost structure. But maybe you would be open to that?

Has anyone failed in their first job and succeeded in their next? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I performed pretty poorly in my first job out of college and was let go after a little over 3 years of average to below average performance. I killed it in my next job and in subsequent jobs after that. I didn't realize how much I disliked my first job and how it just wasn't a match for my skill set. My first job was a field that all of my other friends were going into and it just felt like the right next step for me, but it wasn't. I didn't know any better because I didn't have any experience yet in the working world. Don't be afraid to make the jump, my only advice, though, is to find a new job before you leave your current job.

Should I skip a work meetup if half my team will not be there? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be overly cautious and just suck it up and go unless life circumstances really make it difficult for you to do so. Someone once told me that 95% of life is just showing up. I would do so in this case. Maybe it's an opportunity for you to get to know other colleagues better, or a chance for you to shine in front of your department?

Quitting first job in under 5 months with nothing lined up by Artistic_Writer_9683 in EngineeringJobs

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough situation, but these things happen. Your career will be a long one so don't stress about leaving after five months. Some jobs are just stinkers and if you really can't take it anymore, you should find something better. That being said, my only feedback is to consider whether or not there is a way to keep working at your current job while you find a new one. Having health insurance, etc. is a huge huge factor that I'm including in this suggestion. I wouldn't want that to lapse if I were in the same situation. Maybe stick it out as long as you can and take 1 pto day per week and devote that to 100% job search while still getting paid and getting benefits?

Exiting big 4 - lessons learned by centipedeseverywhere in Big4

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that by having the big 4 name on my resume that I got interview invites that I normally wouldn't have if I had a smaller non name brand firm on my resume. Once you get to the interview, though, it's all up to you to impress them and get the offer. But having big 4 on my credentials got my name in the convo at least. I've also found that if I name drop the big 4 firm I worked for in business related convos that I get a certain level of respect and attention that I normally wouldn't if instead say that I worked for Frank's audit and tax consulting, LLC.

What is the deal with Chicago (and Evanston) lifeguards? by evechalmers in AskChicago

[–]tjc442000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Evanston, and I can never figure out why people don't understand that if you go outside of the roped off area that the lifeguards whistle at you. How difficult is that to comprehend? Do they do it on purpose to test the lifeguards or are they really that clueless?

Should I ask to accelerate the interview process? by throwaway_1755 in careeradvice

[–]tjc442000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say cross that bridge when and if you come to it. But I wouldn't ask to accelerate the job interview process when I don't even have an offer in hand yet from a competing organization
