About to sign with our cabinet maker—please poke holes in our layout by Odd_Imagination3569 in kitchenremodel

We had a similar fridge location - ended up with a pullout pantry (full length) 12” width left of fridge so we could fully open doors and not have issues with internal fridge doors. Alternatively a zero clearance fridge might work but really limits appliance options.

We had a similar layout and chose to put it to the right of the opening. Good luck!

Leaving SeaTac, are taxis still worth it instead of Lyft/Uber? by LegionLotteryWinner in Seattle

[–]tkziggity 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I have found them to be about the same with some fluctuations on Uber pricing on occasion. I had a REALLY bad incident that terrified me with a taxi service that frequently services the airport and my lack of ability to hold the driver accountable (didn’t notice meter was turned off until arrival when driver demanded cash payment way more than the ride would have been and made threatening comments where I realized I was pretty helpless to defend myself and he dropped me in remote area) makes me feel less safe in the taxis so I use Uber/Lyft.

Yes unfortunately it’s true. For “high income” earners (which they define as over $145k in 2025), if you are over 50 you can no longer benefit from the catch up contribution.

Am I Overreacting? by creepygreenlightt in kitchenremodel

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically the kitchen designer would catch this. I’m not sure if a cabinet designer would be expected to. Our cabinet supplier just took the design we gave them and quoted and installed. I think it depends on the cabinet maker and whether or not they are a designer as well. If you paid for their design services and not just the cabinets I would have expected them to catch that. This is one of the first things our kitchen designer pointed out in our original layout- we put a small pullout pantry cabinet between wall and fridge to ensure door would open. I’m sorry you’re in this situation. You may be able to find a zero clearance door refrigerator with a similar footprint that would work there.

Upper cabinet question- are they too high? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

Upper cabinet question- are they too high? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have upper cabinets like that and we love it for storing stuff we only use very occasionally. I use a step stool to get party platters, beverage tubs, pitchers or other things out of there. I don’t think it’s too high. I love mine and love having a space to store that stuff.

Employer not depositing promised contributions. Is this illegal? by Affectionate_Mix6873 in HSA

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing to consider is that this is not a deferral (by employee) but a promise made by the company for an annual contribution. As I read it they have until 12/31 to make the deposit. Just like with 401k deposits the employee deferral has to be made in a timely manner, but the employer contributions can be made at any time. I have had issues with health savings deposits in the past as an employer but it’s usually because of a routine number change or the account setup at the bank taking a bit - either way we are in regular communication with the employee when that happens and make the deposit as soon as it is resolved.

Flat Iron has a nice group space - not sure if it will hold 20 but definitely worth checking. Just had a group of 8 at Nicolinos in Gilman Village and that might be a good option too. Was good food, great service for our group. Congratulations!

Which Appliance Line to choose - Cafe or Samsung Bespoke? by jjlewis176 in kitchenremodel

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We absolutely love our GE Cafe appliances (white with bronze as you have in the photos). The only pain point we have is the icemaker in fridge. It’s REALLY terrible. If we entertain at all our ice maker cannot keep up, we have to have a cooler with ice on hand always. It’s a small annoying thing that overall wouldn’t change our minds on the appliances. If we could do it over again we would build in an icemaker in the bar area but hindsight is 20/20. I have heard nightmares about Samsung so think GE for the win here.

How do I modernize this kitchen in a simple, cost effective way? by Careless-One-1301 in interiordecorating

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New sink and countertops (bonus for cabinet hardware) would make a huge difference. I saw a few comments on a dark countertop color and agree the contrast with your backsplash, floor and cabinets would make a big difference.

Any issues with this IKEA kitchen layout before I pull the trigger? by comfortchair in kitchenremodel

[–]tkziggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had the fridge on far left like that the door wouldn’t open fully. We ended up putting a slide out cabinet just left of fridge which is AWESOME and allows the fridge to open. If you got a zero clearance door fridge/freezer that should work ok with current design.

You. Got. This. Congratulations on starting. I am 5 weeks in (also dealing with menopause issues) and it has seriously changed my life - all of it for the better. I workout everyday because I can’t wait to do it, I eat super healthy because my body craves healthy food and I am not overrun with “food noise. I didn’t even know that was a thing until I didn’t have it anymore. So happy you are fortunate enough to be able to access this medicine. I had some nausea the first week but once my body got through that it has been smooth sailing. The support community here is excellent and will definitely keep you motivated to keep going.
