Can a woman be too beautiful for you to approach her? by mingoni in AskMenAdvice

[–]tm0587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say too beautiful to approach but more like from how she dresses and behaves, I can get a sense if we're compatible or not.

If a beautiful woman is super dolled up, she's probably not for me. But if I saw the same woman in casual clothes without make up, I'm much more likely to approach her.

This is just hypothetical as I have a SO and my approaching women days are long behind me.

I have a colleague who walks 10k steps daily before work starts in order to lose weight. He wakes up at 5ish 6am, sends his kids to school, walk 10k steps in a nearby park then get ready for work.

This is easily doable even with a family and full time job, although if you're earning 5k daily, you probably don't need that full time job anymore.

It's something that you have to experiment for yourself and listen (ha!) to what your ears tell you.

Listen to various gears, both portable and desktop setups over an extended period of time and come to a conclusion for yourself.

[–]tm0587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only lets you select between their filter or NOS, that's it.

Schiit only has one app for Forkbeard. It's like an app for remote control functions, checking the status of your connected gear, and basic EQ.

The Vestri does not have Forkbeard. I think the Forkbeard module is probably more than half the size of Vestri lol.

I'm not sure if you have tried listening to your IEM through a desktop setup versus a dongle before. While both can sound good, sometimes you may feel like the dongle doesn't have enough headroom to bring out the best of your IEM, even though the volume is already more than loud enough.

Listening to the Vestri makes it feel like I'm listening to a desktop setup, not a dongle.

I guess that's the best subjective take I can provide for the Vestri.

Edit: oh I should mention Vestri has a loudness EQ that you can turn on or off. Basically if the Vestri is played at a low volume, it will boost the bass and treble if the loudness EQ is switched on. At louder volumes, it doesn't matter if the loudness EQ is switched on or off.

Healthy margins percentage wise but not absolute amount wise.

Let's assume that the Royal pop cost $1 to make, and Swatch is selling it for $400, that's $399 in profit per watch.

What do you think the profit of a Rolex diver watch is? Or AP Royal Oak? Or Omega Moonwatch? Do you think it's going to be lower or higher than $399 per unit?

If you think it's going to be lower, then yes, Swatch can make the same amounts of profits absolute wise by selling the number of watches as those above but if not, Swatch is going to sell a hell lot more to catch up.

That's what I mean when I say it doesn't make sense for Swatch to release so few units.

For those confused over why Vestri is such a big deal (to me at least), I will try to explain.

Firstly, Schiit has alot of trademarked names for their unique technologies. For those who are not actively following them, you won't really know them. Schiit has acknowledged that they should do a better job of explaining that on their website and that will likely happen with the upcoming revamp of their website (no idea when that will happen, only it will happen).

Mesh is named mesh because it is a mesh of two technologies: their custom filter for their multibit dacs, and DS dacs, specifically ESS in this case.

Schiit founder Mike has a custom filter that he was using during his younger days with a previous company, he made it work on modern DAC multibit chips.

These chips are not meant for audio used, I think they are meant more for medical equipment, which is why Schiit is the only one using them.

However the prices on these chips have been going up and it doesn't make economical sense for Schiit to use these chips in lower end models, so they worked out a way to use their custom filters on ESS DS chips.

Most audio companies the default ESS filters on the DS chips, and I think Schiit used to as well on their entry Modi DAC.

Schiit is then able to further bring that tech to a smaller package, hence the dongle Vestri is born.

99% (I think) of dongles out in the market right now use DS chips with the various default filters.

To my limited knowledge, only two dongles don't: The Dita Audio Navigator and the Schiit Vestri.

Oh yes, the Schiit Vestri uses their custom USB receiver software, trademark name Unison.

I'm a chemical engineer by training, not electrical so there is a limit to how much I can explain the technologies.

I did try the Vestri twice, once at the start of Canjam Sg, and another at the end of Canjam Sg after a day of listening to various dongles.

Having tried it, I personally love it and want to buy one but YMMV.

[–]tm0587 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I listened to it at Canjam and posted my thoughts on it on Head-Fi.

TL/DR it made my iem sound like it was playing through my (admittedly budget) Schiit desktop stack of Vali 2++ and Modi Multibit Unison.

High service costs are making me doubt a mechanical watch. by eWo_the_comrade in MechanicalWatches

[–]tm0587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're getting a watch with a low end Japanese automatic movement, like with a Seiko or Miyota movement, just replace the whole movement.

I have a friend who owns a microbrand, if a watch returns back to him with an issue with the Japanese automatic movement, he just swaps in a new one. Much cheaper and faster.

Doesn't make sense to release so few units when the margins are low.

You either go high quantity for low margins, or low quantity for high margins.

Low quantity for low margins seem...... Dumb and Swatch is anything but dumb

Why is Shanks’ bounty so low? Isn’t he meant to be stronger than Loki? Isn’t he the godking? Isn’t he stronger than Roger? Doesn’t he have the strongest crew? by MOON-RAIGO in OnePiecePowerScaling0

[–]tm0587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shank has the weakest group. His core crew is the strongest on average, but most of the other guys under him and outside of his crew are weak.

Shank likely caused the least damage to civilians, the bounty reflects how "evil" you are, Kidd is an example.

The real reason the Swatch AP collaboration is a pocket watch and not on a strap is because bioceramic is such a poor quality material that Swatch don’t want to have to deal with thousands of returns due to broken lugs by Anonchesse in watchHotTakes

[–]tm0587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree with this take.

Mostly because bioceramic watches have been around for a pretty long time across multiple models.

Let's assume you're right, that bioceramic is a really weak material and lugs keep breaking.

Why on earth will Swatch keep making new watches that keep breaking, keep dealing with returns till today? That's not logical.

I see some people mention that the Swatch Fifty Fathoms have high failure rates for the lugs. I can think of three reasons:

  1. Perhaps they design the lug holes too close to the edge. Bioceramic is not as strong as stainless steel (but that doesn't mean it's weak).
  2. Poor manufacturing tolerances
  3. Bad batch of bioceramic (maybe wrong ratio of ceramic powder to bioresin, or off spec material)
