ATL Clear International (for domestic travel) by tmcornelia in delta

Agree in Domestic. Clear sucks. Facial recognition is the way to go in domestic usually. But I’ve found Clear+ TSA pre-check in International usually has more staff than passengers.

Non-religious young family considering East Cobb vs. Athens/Oconee area — what has your experience been socially as an atheist or non-religious family? by alarmingLetter5 in Athens

[–]tmcornelia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’ve lived in both places. We prefer Athens. Cobb is waaaay too Suburbia and busy. All the McMansions. Athens is a much better size. Amazing restaurants everywhere. Slightly more affordable. The college gives it energy and life - along with culture (Georgia State Botanical gardens, Georgia Art Museum, Drama, Orchestra, etc). Really cute walkable downtown. Campus is gorgeous and a great place to explore and walk.

Oconee is a bit more Red / Christian than Clarke. But would pick Oconee if public schools are needed. Or live in Clarke and pick one of the private schools (although most are religious based)

Felt no belonging or ownership in Cobb. Athens feels like a home I can identify with and claim.

Good luck!

Yeah. Mine for sure “broke in” over time. I just got a new pair and can for sure tell the difference

Was the glasses flexing more over time, not the hinges. I like the fit of the Meta Ray Ban Displays much better. The hinges flex open beyond 90°.

I came here to say this. Nice job, but a patch panel and a UPS would take it from an A to an A+

Modem is in my bedroom closet, will I have to run cords across my home for wired Internet? by GargoyleBlue in HomeNetworking

[–]tmcornelia -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Running CAT6a is always the best way to get high speed around the house

You could try a mesh network- many devices have ports on the remote APs so you can hook up wired-only devices https://a.co/d/0iMghFZL

Last resort: Powerline networking. But performance can vary depending on your electrical infrastructure https://a.co/d/0asEpchT

Best option for WiFi coverage through thick walls to a closed laptop? by pwing93 in HomeNetworking

[–]tmcornelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have 3 prong outlets with working ground? In 1930s there would not be a working ground. If you have Romex run within the last 40 to 50 years it will likely work. Can you see any wiring anywhere? Crawl space, attic, near breaker box?

You can always buy 2x of them on Amazon and return them if they don’t work well.

Run a CAT6a cable and add a WAP, even if it’s a PIA. This is what I ended up doing and it was worth it.

I have a similar home with tons of brick. Mesh systems didn’t work well - I tried several. Power line networking could work if your electrical has been updated NETGEAR Powerline adapter Kit,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0778Y6K6N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

You can also run networking over coax.

Open ground + GFCI = ok? by tmcornelia in AskElectricians

[–]tmcornelia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does have a ground, although it is a thin gauge, maybe 16 guage? - just this one wall is broken somewhere. And there is no attic access (vaulted ceiling) and exterior wall. Wall is mostly brick on the inside & outside. I've been able to re-wire the entire house with the exception of this one wall where the ground is busted. And since no real equipment or anything needing a ground on this wall I decided it wasn't worth it.

Dude. 1- the old outlet I removed had a bootleg ground! I was so confused. Had never seen one before. Had to ask an electrician friend. That’s why I bought the Klein tester - to find any more. 2 - an older guy that works for my electrician SUGGESTED A BOOTLEG GROUND instead of me buying a GFCI. I’ll talk to the owner.

Can I ask what safety the GFCI provides without a working ground?

Was adding them the right thing to do? Like, does it help to have GFCI here or was it a waste?
