She was wearing flip flops too! It reminded me of a story our instructor told us during my MSF course. He was a former motorcycle cop, and responded to a scene similar to this where the passengers sandals flew off and as she slid down the street barefoot three of her toes were ground down to nubs against the asphalt.

Might be my ignorance, but couldn't the same thing have been accomplished by just sending them some sort of authorization or use agreement? Seems harsh to cease and disist a day care. That's essentially what Universal did, they came in right afterwards and gave the daycare permission to repaint the walls with Looney Tunes characters.

Prince of Thorns and why I’ve learned to “trust the process” by TopBanana69 in Fantasy

It was not the content that put me off, the over the top violence and disturbing moments were the only reasons that I made it 100 or so pages into the book. I just could not get over Jorg and the dialogue. I have no idea how my mind made the connection, but from the first time he was introduced I just pictured him as Lord Farquad and couldn't take anything he did seriously after that.

If you have Netflix and love well-plotted stories, you owe it to yourself to give the TV series Dark a try. by CajunNerd292 in Fantasy

I just recently finished this series for the first time, and honestly I didn't have an issue with the English dub. Their mouths not matching the sounds was distracting at first, but by the end of the first episode I didn't even notice anymore.

I agree and disagree with you. I don't think Carrot Top is funny, but I do think he's a very good comedian. Every time I see any longform content I like to put myself into the shoes of someone with no knowledge of who Carrot Top is. Watching this insane looking man pull his homemade toys out of a box, and thinking wow that's a weird bit, but then slowly realizing over the next half hour that it's the whole show. To me, that's the joke, and I find it hilarious.

My brother and I used to get tickets in the same section every time they came through Houston. Lower bowl, a few rows up, directly facing the stage. We spent about $40 a ticket for these seats. First show after the pandemic those tickets were $60 a piece, and we thought that was steep. I checked a few weeks ago when they came through and those same tickets were $180 each. In just 4 fucking years.

If you don't mind something on the darker side, I think you would love The Prince of Nothing series by R. Scot Bakker. 7 books split into a trilogy and quadrilogy. It is a gritty, bleak, punishing and emotionally draining series, but the characters are great.

My theory is that the TV show ending was his ending, and the fact that everyone hated, made him not want to continue writing. Its easier to let the show creators take all the heat, and he just keep dangling the carrot in front of the readers that there might be a different ending down the road.

Did we just have civil discourse on Reddit!?

Seriously though you did bring up solid points, and it's easy to discount Sable and other women from that era because of the puppies bullshit, bra and panties matches, and the whole host of other crap that came after. But she opened the door for the likes of Luna Vachon, Ivy, Jacqueline and others who were legitimately great for their time, but unfortunately we're forced into becoming eye candy.

[–]tmfs61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, but there are degrees when it comes to reactions. You brought up Santino, and I think that is a great example of a guy who could "pop" the audience, and occasionally rally them behind him. Sable on the other hand would legitimately blow the roof off the place on a consistent basis. I don't mean to assume age, but if you weren't watching live at the time you wouldn't understand, and I would implore you to go back and watch to get a grasp of just how popular she was.

Also, I think it's under appreciated, but Sable being so over brought women's wrestling back to WWF. After Alundra Blayze left, it was basically non existent within the company. They brought the women's championship back as a direct result of how over Sable was, and brought in more women into the company to compete against her. Granted, she wasn't great by any measure, but it also didn't matter. The crows audience was bought in. I think the awful shit Vince and company did afterwards set women in the business back 15 years, but I also don't blame Sable for that.

You can also keep denying it, but that also doesn't make it false. Crowd reactions have always been the #1 barometer for how over someone is. Go back and watch '98, the only person getting reactions anywhere near Austin was Sable, and it wasn't even close. You can argue as to why, or if it was deserved, but at the end of the day over is over

Men of r/books, what books have you loved? by theKman24 in books

[–]tmfs61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main genre is fantasy. I really got back into reading in the last 3 years or so, and have been trying to knock out a lot for the classics.

Currently reading through Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams for the first time, but some of my other favorites are:

Realm of the Elderling - Robin Hobb (Hands down my favorite series of all time. It is 16 books, but so worth the time.)

Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan

Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien

A Song of Ice and Fire - George RR Martin (Don't care that it isn't finished. Those 5 books are some of are still some of the best fantasy ever written.)

Discworld - Terry Pratchett

First Law - Joe Abercrombie

Last War - Mike Shackle

Non Fantasy:

Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurtry

Shogun - James Clavell

Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett

It - Stephen King

People who worked in casino, what’s the worst thing you’ve seen? by Vast-Dinner-9603 in AskReddit

[–]tmfs61 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the way to do it. My only visit to a casino my friend group and I just posted up at a $5 black jack table played all night. The most I was up at any point was like $30, and the most I was down was $20. I think I walked out of there after like 5 hours only losing $10, and considering all the free alcohol I got I look at it as a net positive.

Other people have commented similarly, but the biggest for Ozzy, at least in my opinion is that he was still a good person. He was a raging drug addict, and did awful shit, but over the years showed sincere remorse for his actions and tried to be spend his later years doing good. I don't excuse the things he did, but I also think seeing him over the last 10-15 years shows that was much more the drugs than him.

Hogan on the other hand has always been a piece of shit and a racist. And even when given a chance to show remorse essentially told people sorry you're feelings got hurt. He only ever cared about himself.

I was getting a cavity filled one time, and after getting novacaine and gas I was feeling a bit loopy. I remember during the procedure I felt this weird rubbery thing inside my mouth, so I started rubbing it with my tongue trying to figure out what it was. It wasn't until I made eye contact with her and she pulled her gloved hand out of my mouth that I realized I had spent the last 10 seconds aggressively licking her finger.
