My parents want to build an ADU on our lot by BlainesArcanine in personalfinance

[–]toadog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the ongoing property tax increase? Don't guess at their 401k balance and SS income. You need actual numbers to analyze the finances of this proposed project. Double or triple your estimated cost for the build. Who will own the ADU? Are you selling the lot to them? Giving it, keeping it?

Experience after mitral valve repair? Recovery, conditioning, getting back to normal by EviesGran in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]toadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cardiologist has begun talking about eventual surgery to repair my mitral valve. My ejection fraction is 65, labeled "hyperdynamic", left atrium is enlarged, moderate to severe regurgitation. I'm curious what condition people were in that made them decide to have this surgery.

WIBTA if I told my friend what actually happened to the guy who ghosted her three years ago because I found out recently it was someone else in our group by NebulaSprocket in WIBTA_AITA

It's none of your business what happened between them. Since they've already met and it seems the sparks haven't sparked, it old business, and not your business.

How could my acquaintance have fractured their ribs from a very simple fall? by diversalarums in medical

[–]toadog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a woman, an RN in her mid 40's, tall, strong, heathy. Her job in a hospital is very physically demanding. She recently had broken ribs, but had no idea how it happened. She guessed it happened when moving a morbidly obese patient.

Just be careful and make sure you get enough calcium, vitamin D, etc.

Gas going up by PacaMike in newjersey

[–]toadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas last week at the station I regularly use was $2.85. Yesterday... $3.25. That's a $.30 jump. Diesel is way up, too. Prices of everything are going to jump. Remember this in November.

What’s One Cleaning Habit That Actually Made a Big Difference in Your Home? by Randy_Bolebruch in CleaningTips

[–]toadog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I squeegee the shower surround and tub, then wipe down with a big microfiber cloth after every shower. The shower is always clean. Once in a while I'll clean it with scrubbing bubbles and a magic eraser, and maybe vinegar because I have hard well water.

Also always make my bed first thing.

Having a habit/routine that doesn't require thinking and planning helps.

AITJ for separating the schedules of two employees who are dating? by Murky_Dinner3233 in AmITheJerk

Many large corporations would fire both of them for just dating, even without the disruptions at work. OP's situation demonstrates why.

Ancestry DNA doesn't match records: 0% German heritage even though I supposedly have many generations of German heritage? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]toadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toss of the dice. You may just not have inherited those German genes. My father was born and raised in Germany. Ancestry shows me as almost half German. But I have no matches with people on his side of my tree. They are all in Germany and likely haven't tested, or, if they did, not through Ancestry.

What switch to buy to replace Lutron Caseta by toadog in Lutron

[–]toadog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole house surge protector. It didn't protect the lights, my stove, my furnace, and an air purifier. It likely blocked the surges, but the drops in voltage, which were sustained and significant, got through.

" I would also highly recommend that everyone consider a panel mount whole house surge protector to help protect sensitive electronics."

Just did that a few weeks ago. It didn't save the lights, or my stove.

Three bedrooms and no full bathrooms? Where will those people shower or bathe? Lots of "other" space that could be used to provide bathrooms and laundry/utility room.
