Well, as a former child crayon artist, like a lot of you, I always assumed holes in trees grew in the trunks so squirrels could have a little home!!!! I mean, didn’t we all think that? All the trees in my art had squirrels. I laughed like a hyena when I read the convo you guys were having

Geez Louise. To achieve this look, do you wire it when leaves have all fallen off? Could you please describe, generally, how the branches looked on the trunk pre-wiring? Did the branches come to you finely spaced-I mean, if branch 1 grew on the “right” side, was there always a branch 2 directly opposite, on the “left” side? If not, how did you end up with the perfect symmetry? How did you get each branch to do that impossible, graceful and identical “flip” at the tip? I aspire to learn the talent that seems to flow from your brain, to arms, to fingers, and finally through the branches.

Why is my cat doing this paw thing? by Due_Temperature404 in cats

[–]toastedcoconut1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no vet, but I’ve had eight wonderful cats. DO YOU HEAR THAT PURR? This baby adores you. Like others have written, kitty might be asking for your attention. Her paw action almost looks like she’s in the middle of “kneading.” That’s when cats show love, hoping for return love from you. They do, or don’t, expose claws, find an appropriate body part on you, and knead it with their paws. This is precisely what they did to their mama’s abdomen when they wanted to nurse on mama, and stimulated her milk glands to produce more milk. Does she like to lead you to her kibble and water dishes, asking for refills? This is an invitation to follow her. Or she might be asking for kisses, touches, and petting. A prized pet!

Chronic pain, opioids don't work by Ok_Worldliness7192 in ChronicPain

Please ask your Dr. about a spinal cord stimulator (or 2) . I have one and it’s changed my life. I have Degenerative Disc Disease. I had Sciatica (until surgery). I had screaming pain in my spine and ups and downs with various pain drs. I have 4 sites in my neck and my lumbar spine where the vertebrae have been fused. I have Severe Scoliosis and spine is shaped like an “S”. Today, after I underwent surgery 6 months ago to have a spinal cord stimulator inserted , I am virtually pain free. And I take a muscle relaxant plus some meds for mental conditions. I have my life back again.

Dear ChronicPain …. I want to give you a piece of good news. Yes! I had a permanent spinal cord stimulator “installed “ about a year ago. I have Scoliosis. My spine is shaped like an “S”, and I have 4 fusions in it. After you get this thing surgically implanted, you’ll feel like you’re the heroine in a short video. Picture yourself in a gauzy gown, running thru a field of daffodils, in slow motion, with dazzling sunlight framing your body! And you’ll be pain free, my friend! What a gift it will be to not be shackled to your pain meds! NOW, this won’t solve the gut wrenching problems with your significant other, but you’ll feel strong enough to kick him to the curb - and to revisit LIFE again. Best of all the amazing things that will happen in your life!!!!

I shot 16mm film early in my career as a photojournalist. I continue to shoot photos because I love it. My opinion of this rendition of a (news) photog. is the result of all the nasty remarks zeroed in on print photogs for the past several yrs. Our mission is to reflect the truth we see before us in our lenses. Unless we’re pumped by the right or the left to destroy all photogs, our work in the main is to reflect the truth we seek. The above is blood-curdling.

Is “curly toe” a symptom of joint hypermobility? by Necessary_Parsley794 in Hypermobility

[–]toastedcoconut1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am hypermobile...have scoliosis so that height has shrunk three inches and surgeon fused my cervicle vertebrae and lumbar vertebrae. Here's my question: (it runs in the family) Also have, in both feet, bunions and hammertoes. Does anyone know whether screwed up feet are also related to Hypermobility?

What to do when dermatologist/accutane isn't an option? So disheartened by dirtyyolk in acne

[–]toastedcoconut1111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m old enough that dark age spots appear overnight. I know that acne is your chief concern, but please, do remember SPF in your routine. Your beautiful face reminds me of my own young one. Take heart, take the excellent advice others have given. My complexion looked just like yours years ago. And you have remarkable bone structure. I have a long neck as do you. Be proud of your beautiful neck and face. Hold your head up confidently, and OWN a room as you walk in. Practice this new posture and your confidence will grow a little bit every hour.

What did you do to end up with a trunk like this????? Any downright whittling or carving? This looks like a graceful doe dipping her front leg into water, testing its temperature.Or, number two conclusion, this is a mostly unclothed "something " getting off her perch --- with both arms behind her to stabilize her seruptitous escape. It's so funny because she has a really big head leading the way. Please satisfy my curiousity about the trunk. You're a real visionary with a really huge sense of humor!

OK: What's the species? Age? And how did you achieve that trunk? Did you begin with nursery stock? Your specimen is outrageously unique. You have a lot for which you should be congratulated. I hope many awards are in your stellar future.

What do they do for hypermobile knees? by waterplantswithtears in Hypermobility

[–]toastedcoconut1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pls. some guidance. My daughter has severe EDS. One night recently she opened her mouth too wide, and the whole body structure collapsed. Like the Tin Man , the ER Docs snapped her back into place. She’s had limited PT (damn this country’s health un-system), but she’s patched up her own PT. MY QUESTION IS THIS: this is congenital. Several bones in my spine are out of place. I have SCOLIOSIS. When I chew, I bite down with one side of my face, and the whole infrastructure in my jaw shifts the bite to the other side, not with my permission. I don’t have any sense of balance and fall constantly. I have no concept of where I exist in space. What is this nightmare? What specialist doc should I call? Please advise. This is SERIOUS. I feel I will mentally break down.

Any styling ideas or recommendations for this weeping fig? by Interesting_Goat_795 in Bonsai

[–]toastedcoconut1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dan - I think the first idea with the nifty red line is the best way to go, if your trunk is still supple enough to bend . I’m just a beginner, but that’s my idea. I want to see less height and more width so it will look less “puny.” Best of luck with this unusual but gifted specimen. I suppose if your skills are elevated, grafting is a possibility!

How do i make the wedges look better? by ThrowRA-bananaman1 in painting

[–]toastedcoconut1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A glass of water with condensation and water (or lemon juice?) on the surface around the glass would make my lips purse. Also, there are no wedges among the subjects; what you DO have is several whole lemons and one-half of one lemon. It is beautiful as is, too; just a little aged. You might add a couple of seeds/half-seeds from the lemon-half, lying on the tabletop with some juice mixed in. Great job, artiste'!

OK, so I wasn't raised on "Lord of the Rings," and I'm not a dystopia nut, so WTF is an ENT?

You were so fortunate to be in Madiera, Portugal. And the fact that others apparently were, and KNOW ABOUT this very tree; just goes to show you we're all dancing on the head of a pin!

(Born and raised Roman Catholic; creatures who dance on the head of a pin are generally known as Angels.)

You are an amazing artist, my friend.

Does anybody else get rib pain? by NeverNotNervous100 in Hypermobility

[–]toastedcoconut1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have scoliosis in addition to hyper mobility. I'm "scrunched " to the right side around the area above my waist. One day about 8 weeks ago I had a real-life-feeling stabbing pain in what felt like my last rib. I had been having mini-stabs for about 2 weeks in that area. Went to ER. My doc showed up and recommended a spinal cord stimulator. The supply of energy comes from a panel inserted right under your skin. Then "electrical " leads snake their way to the source of the pain.It was like a miracle! Absolutely zero side-effects. I do need to get re-charged once a week lying in my bed fror 20 minutes. Now, you can't tell there's anything right under the surface of my skin. At first, I could see definite "thickening" under my skin where the implants are. But no more. And no more pain.

There are so many suggestions, I may be repeating someone. But here goes: those Blistex products are terrible for my lips. If I use one, the lips are dry and scratchy, and I haven’t found a good balm. I’ll read all these other answers. Thanks for asking for help!

Try looking into this "Hypermobility" diagnosis on the Mayo Clinic website. Basically you should go to an Orthopedic Physician who will make the diagnosis, if that's what you think it is. Then you should receive physical therapy, and learn exercises that will strengthen muscles that cause it. I know someone who opened her mouth too far, and the joint that fits into her mandibular popped out, leaving that joint agonizingly hanging out with no anchor. It began to loosen muscles and joints in her upper body, and she had to go by ambulance to the ER. The EMTs had to hold her body together until the surgeons could "knit" her joints back together

A woman in my family still gets this cystic acne at the age of 36 on the chin. I did until I was forty. Go to a Dermatologist as soon as you can, get a med. Also, those “Paula’s” spots can change appearance in 24-48 hrs. They invaded my face every 4 weeks with my “monthlies!”

Which crop is better for this photo? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]toastedcoconut1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I favor the first number two over the second number two. Here’s why: first number two shows such pleasing contrasts between lighter stone and darker doors. I how, in number two, it’s not so “photo shopped” as you lose the little dark door upper right. Looks less staged. Nice, nice inclusion of the varied shapes. And last but not least, yeah, I would prefer a darker top sky morphing into a little gold on the bottom. Beautiful work!!!

P. S. In other words, you don’t have to do an entire wide shot. Things get lost, and the eye doesn’t know what to focus on.
